dragonrider, I am impressed! I didn't expect someone to know about EAM-ELAS and the rest (though there is a lot of difference of opinion here in Greece about SOME of those groups) here on DD! Are you by any chance of hellenic origin or did you simply study these things?
No, there is no island called Navarone in Greece, and there is some speculation the original inspiration for 'navarone' is Leros, but I haven't really looked into that so it may not be a valid piece of info.
We will look at some of the resistance groups, and I am hoping to be able to ferret in some stuff about the resistance government of 'the mountains' which was remarkable in its design and effectiveness, but I may not manage as the story takes place in 1942 whereas the 'mountain govt' was officially such in 1944. We shall see!

Tantz, on the scared Column B would be about right, with Hollywood, this being only rated M I will only say that there is more truth in the Disney cartoon Sorcers Apprentice than in 99% of the rest of the garbage that comes out of there. BTW I also realize that their is not actually an Island called Navarone, and the film was made, I believe on Rhodes. That being said the Hellenic Underground, KKE/OPLA, ELAS, EDES and several others did perform with honor and distinction during WWII, against Italians Bulgarians as well as the Germans. The only criticism is there was a lack of centralized cooperation between the groups.

usedbooks: that's true, but nearly impossible :(
dragonrider: I wasn't aware there was a sequel. Should I be scared or abominably scared? :P I liked it that you brought it up and put the clip. All history nuts and history aficionados more than welcome here!!
oh, and on the Hollywood issue, I couldn't agree more. Did you see what they did with Robin Hood and the social circumstances of the era? It was so warped it hurt.

So sad to be jaded and cynical by 21. :( Most people should be able to live in blissful ignorance until at least 30.

@Tantz the reason I included that clip with my comment, I like the music in it, the movie, the main movie theme music and the sequel "Force Seven From Navarone" were prime examples why Hollywood should never be allowed to do anything that has any kind of historical value. Other than that, History Nut #2 reporting as ordered Commander.
