A little teaser for you there in panel five tee hee, but unfortunately the mystery behind that wont be explored until Chapter Five. The super sleuths among you though may be able to work out at least some of the details of who and when even if not how.
Next week: Nikki pays the girls a visit dressed as Nick again which prompts Janey to make a surprisingly generous offer!
Have a good week all :)
Nikki is NOT happiest back home! Trying to rescue a relationship in which she was happy maybe, but this is going to be hard. Maybe not for a few weeks, but it will hit. The trash? Nice story-knitting there! Sarah's generous offer: to republish? I do hope so (otherwise we're all in a time slip right now!). More to the point, where are all Nikki's clothes? Not out with the rest of the move in the bin (trash, not just the recycling, it seems). Nick might be dressing male, but has not let go; not one bit. And Nikki's needs? A bi woman? Maybe, but she won't want to feel loved as a man. It seems appropriate because we can't cope with "the wrong bits". Only yesterday I wrote about Nikki's situation as "exile" (See andiesplace.co.uk on Trans Siberia!)
@DarkVisor A girl who vomits around guys...you wouldn't be talking about Houou Gakuen Misoragumi by any chance? That comic...ugh...to say the least it'll piss off anyone by the fourth volume. :/ Well, anyone that has any common sense regarding sexuality...
Dear Sky, Your last few pages have been some of your best yet! Sarah finding Nikki's comic art gives her a chance to give Nikki another start.Murder most foul! Would not want to see any one we know in jail. Maybe they can claim self defence, like we do here in the States. Janey's offer? A threesome! Yeah! I can hear Janey now "We have a threesome and you can put the story back online and can write about us also." tommym
Agree with LV: Janey just looks like being viewed from an awkward/unflattering angle (more 3/4 back than full back or side). And while agree with Sarah trying to reassure/placate Janey that there would never be more than a close non-physical/intimate relationship with Nikki, that "No of course not!" seems to be a bit too forceful/hasty (as though she has considered it or the idea truly repulses her {because of the male bits in general, not because it's Nikki/Nick in particular [just started reading a comic where even kissing a guy makes this girl vomit, even a guy she likes as a friend]})
Actually, I've just realised it doesn't say anything about emailing me. I'm just the next item on the "to do" list. What could this mean? What is Nikki going to do to me? Show me a good time? Make me her next victim?
@Emi See...that's a response I like. Hell, it's a response I love. Shows me a valid point of view that I hadn't actually considered. :) I'll concede on that. On another (and completely unrelated) note...Sarah's Gloves in the third panel go halfway up her forearms. They're lacking in the first two panels. There's some straight up X-Files conspiracy afoot here, I can tell. ~Liz
Hmmm, missed the "to do" bit with Ironside on it. THe thing about _fiction_ is we can make the girls (or boys) as slim and pretty as we like, so a _drawn_ um...'solid' figure induces us to read things in. I'll go with "awkward angle", don't get a complex, pleeez! B-)
@Lunaris I think the point is, whist Sarah accepts and encourages Nick's feminine side, there is the issue that, physically, he is still a man. She's understands how difficult it is to be Nikki because it means that he is struggling to balance who is he feels he is.
The main issue here though, is that Sarah is reassuring Janey. Janey sees that there might be chance she could lose Sarah to someone like Nikki because he might be able to offer her something Janey can't. Or, maybe more to the point, that Nikki and Sarah have a stronger relationship that causes Janey to wonder if she is good enough for Sarah.
When you reassure someone about another person impacting on your relationship, you pick out small things. (For example: I wouldn't go out with her, she has small feet. Or I don't like him like that. He's interested in Crazy Cat Ladys.)
Sarah wants Janey to know that there are aspects to her that Nikki doesn't have and thus, that being the reason she is with her and not Nikki.
Let me clarify what I mean by that, ironside. Gender and sexuality are separate things. Sarah and Janey have made it clear already that they see Nikki as her gender, a female. Nikki is, to them, a female. Nikki has made it clear to everyone that she is attracted to women. A female attracted to other females is, at the very least, bisexual and lesbian at most. Sarah just seems too quick to pick where she stands on things here based on one thing or another, like Nikki goes from female to male based on a matter of convenience. I dunno, maybe I'm wrong but it just doesn't seem fair to me, not for Nikki or anyone in her situation anyways. Not saying Sarah can't dislike manly bits, just that she's inconsistent with her view on gender. On the other hand, I'm pleased at Janey's question because it suggests she thinks more in line with me and would have, perhaps, been fine with it herself if it were her going about it. Janey and Nikki...there's be a bit of an odd couple. lol ~Liz
First off, about Richard, I'm going to assume it's one and the same as the Richard we all know and love (to hate), and I'm going to make the guess that things aren't as they seem. I'm going to pin his death on Stacey's mom finally growing a backbone and standing up to do the only good motherly deed she's probably ever done. As for Janey in panel 3? She doesn't look wide, she look like she's drawn at an awkward angle with a different posture. Everyone is just so quick to harp on a girl's appearance, and yet act surprised if we develop complexes. Shame on you all! XD And Shame on Sarah...quick to defend Nikki as a female yet still acting accusatory over happenstance of birth. It's not the equipment that makes the lady, after all. Attraction or lack thereof is one thing, but that's just nitpicking at this stage of acceptance. Love the colors though, it does look like a miserable day, and Sarah and Janey have such nice patterns going on. ~Liz
Hey! I got a mention! If you look very carefully at the note between the book and the newspaper you can clearly see Nikki was planning to email me. Okay, and Liz. Who got mentioned first. And we're both less important than getting a new toaster.
Hmmm, would Stacey really kill Dick? Especially now she's pregnant? Don't see any 'hefty' in panel 4. At least Sarah's dress isn't one of those magical patterns that always remain facing the viewer (like Olde School Mickey Mouse's ears)
Richard. Richard. Now, who in the story is called Richard? Hmmm. Picture 2 is nice. I sometimes forget how pretty Sarah can be without her glasses. I have to say that Janey looks a bit hefty in picture 4 (awaits torrent of abuse from Victoria). Emma? Nicely drawn patter on Sarah's top, and picture 5 does have a real feeling of a shitty English day.
Hah, I love the patterns! Also, the foam looks so... foamy? Great art work! Also, I love how you never forget what characters have said/done in the past and then use it further along in the story... I mean that's what great story-telling is about! So if I put 2 and 2 together that "generous offer" is something that I'm not so sure Sarah intended to mean when she said she "likes people watching"... Looking forward on how the story will unfold the mysterious hint and I fear one of our now not-so-horrible-anymore-characters has gotten in a whole lot of trouble...

Look, the Janey-hefty thing is not a problem. I adore Nigella.
