08-02: It Does

So much I want to say...
As Alejkhan pointed out on last week's comic, Raivyn is participating in the Japanese sport of Kyudo. There are many styles, but this one utilizes a tall bow (taller than the bearer) in which the handle is situated below the half way point so that the bearer can fire it while in a kneeling position (kiza) without it hitting the floor. This was most often used for rapid fire.
Laryk, here, is feeding Raivyn the arrows (Ya), smacking them down on her thigh, where Raivyn then senses the arrow and picks it up to draw on her bow (Yumi.) without ever having to look down, or away from her target.
This form of two-man speed archery is famous in the competitions in Kyoto at Sanjusangedo. The record for the most arrows shot in 24 hours (Ouyakazu) was set in 1686 when Wasa Daihachirou shot 8,133 arrows the whole length of the veranda (120 meters at Sanjusangendo) out of a total of 13,053 shots. That means he hit his target 62% of the time.
Obviously, these two aren't in any hurry. Either they are really bad at Kyudo (one should never talk while drawing a bow as it is a form of meditation), or perhaps they are just silly foreigners trying to dabble in Japanese sport. But what are they firing at?
Ah.
Find out next week!

Comments:
Kaj: Heh. I like that question. Though I think Yote's more your man for those tasks.

Jenshin: No. No grad school here. Working. Looking for better work. Thinking hard about grad school- but can't decide on a good line of study. (not a useful one anyway.)

Alejkhan: Yeah, getting to change up the costumes is the best part of flashbacks and scene changes. ^_^

08-01: Unkown

Whoa. Colore!
Color takes a long time. Who invented it? Sheesh.
If you don't recall- Color = Flashbacks. This page flashes back to a very important event that I wanted to draw since this ridiculously long comic started forever and a day ago. The place is Sanuki Province, a place I was most serendipitously sent to live for two years. It's now called Kagawa Prefecture.
More specifically, it's on a hill somewhere between Shido and Yashima on the bank of the Seto Inland Sea. That's all you need to know for now. History ensues in the next page or two.

BTW- This page also contains a hail to silly foreigners trying to wear Japanese clothing. Someone isn't wearing something right. Don't worry, I'm very aware of it. ^_^

Comments:
Aquadude: Yeahhh. I just feel like I'm not as cool and collected as people who create confusing comics- and I worry that I'm not addressing half the necessary information. Pah. we'll see, I guess. But you're right- I should just let things lie- let people assume the worst! Mua ha ha ha!

Mina Lunga: Hm. Yes. A Fated Feather Recap done with... a ball of yarn, a pair of scissors, a crochet hook, some thread, and scraps of fabric... yesh... I like it. (these are the things sitting on my coffee table.) But I doubt it'll happen. If anyone would do a recap, I'd make Richard do it.

Amanda: I am grateful for your insight, because you're probably the newest reader, and you've got the archive fresh on your plate, so your feedback is really helpful. I'm glad you're not confused!

Alejkhan: I'd "show" the things that are confusing in the next chapter to clarify them, but I'm not certain if my editor will approve. See, my editor LIKEs that it's confusing. He also thinks my readers read into EVERYTHING. He begs me to change small details because he thinks people will understand huge plot devices if I leave them. This is why I have an editor.

Jenshin: Yo yo. Still in the DC hood. It's pretty laid back. Not a whole lot going on- trying to get a real job- not having too much luck. Just finished sending in a new resume, so we'll see how things go. I'm so tired of rejection. =(
Glad you enjoyed the tumultuous nature of the comic. Did you figure out the cover for Book 7? I remember you asking whose hand way throwing away the bird- and which bird it was. ^_^

08-00: Claiming Fated Feathers

Onto another chapter! Forward ho!

So I realized something.
My comic is confusing.
I like confusing comics, so this normally doesn't bother me.
But.
I am afraid that my comic has become confusing in an annoying way- in a- "What the hell is going on and what just happened in that panel- I can't tell because you can't draw" kind of way.
So.
Should I draw up a recap of everything that has happened in big bullet points for viewer consumption? Would that be helpful?
You let me know.

07-21: The Disappearing Ship Trick

Aw.... crap.
This is one of the few pages I've done where I've considered a curse word, but ultimately decided against it.
Drawing this page was a bit on the iffy side. I had no idea if what I wanted to do was going to turn out. I mean... I guess I still don't know. Won't know until you guys start saying things like, "Wow, you need to work on your contrast." or "Hey- how come I can see the waves through the boat?" I guess that's why having this web comic and getting all your comments is so important to me. It tells me what I've done wrong.

I wonder if Hawke's gonna go play solitaire until the sun sets...

Commmmmmmmmments:
Amanda: Ha ha, Belly flops hurt. Then again, being thrown into the water by brute force probably isn't a picnic either.

Alej: Duuuude. I am so bad at thinking about sword fighting stances, so I had Richard help me choreograph a fight and take pictures so I could reference them. It helped, a lot. So thanks for the nod. ^_^

07-20: Making Waves

I have a feeling this was no accident...

I am back from Colorado. Oooo, lovely place. Had a grand time and I demand you all go visit. It's pretty! One or two pages to go in this chapter, then the madness of Chapter 8 begins.

Comments:
Aquaman- Yo yo yo. Thanks for the note on composition. I actually tried on that page!

Amanda: Yeah, secretly we all want to join the enemy's pirate ship. Laryk just got lucky.

Minalunga: Miss nun-short skirt? I like it. So, has he been holding on to this item of note, waiting for this moment? Hmmmm... maaaaaybe. It would certainly seem like they had a plan should this ever occur, that's for sure.
