Issue 2 Teaser

Just giving you guys a little preview of the next issue of Subhuman. When will you be seeing the pages for it? Not for a few weeks (or a few months). I'm taking the summer off from Subhuman to work on a few new Carnies pages, a new comic concept, to spend time with my loved ones (since I don't see all that much of them during the school year), and to attempt to find employment (as unlikely as that's going to be given that even Tim Hortons [a MAJOR coffee joint here in Canada that's usually busy, if not packed, at all hours of the day] has been cutting back hours and laying people off).

So what's Sunjax going to be doing over the summer? He mentioned something about wanting to answer a few questions from readers, and something about going skinny dipping.

Kills Bugs Dead

This might actually work in real life. Sewers are always full of decomposing organic matter (leaves and suchlike in this particular case), which give off highly flammable gases (known as swamp gas, and is one of the culprits behind sightings of "will o' the wisps"). If you were to pump a lot of that gas into a closed space, it would become somewhat concentrated, so a spark from a door lock or a pilot light could cause either an explosion or a flash fire.

I doubt this has happened with sewer gas, but it has happened several times when people leave multiple bug bombs running in their house overnight. Seriously. http://www.snopes.com/humor/follies/bugbomb.asp

Sneaky Sneaky

I was hoping to have this arc wrapped up on Monday, but that's not going to happen.

I've been a herper (reptile keeping as a hobby) for a few years now, and have a group of leopard geckos. One of them, a young male, passed away on Monday. While his passing is sad, it is a bit of a relief. He was bred to have a different colouring from what the species has in the wild; this often calls for a little inbreeding to solidify the trait in that family line, and this usually isn't a problem since reptiles aren't as likely to have genetic disorders as mammals do when they inbreed. This little guy, however, was an exception: he had a lazy eye that made it difficult for him to see his meals, he had frequent prolapses, and he had the reptilian equivalent of Down's syndrome.

His passing means no more pain, no more visits to the vet, and no more worrying about him. At least those of us who've been looking after the group (my family took care of them while I was at school since reptiles weren't allowed in the dorms) can be grateful that the other geckos are doing well and are likely to live out their 10-15 year lifespan.

We're taking his body to the farm on Saturday to bury him, so, naturally, I won't be doing a whole lot of work on this comic this weekend. Since there are only 2 (or, potentially, 3) pages left in this arc, I should have the whole thing wrapped up by next Friday.

On a much lighter note, I do have another project planned for the summer. It shall be silly.

Changing of the plans

Things that really suck: inking the dialogue, then realizing that no one will get the joke, and having to explain said joke (which, I believe, probably robs it of its humour).

Ah, well, only a few pages left in this arc. I'll probably have it wrapped up next week!
