"...For the Death of Kings" ... now Available in PDF format

"...FOR THE DEATH OF KINGS", my first story about The Gods of Arr-Kelaan is now available for digital download in all of its embarrassing "glory." See Ronson as you never have before ... as you never WANTED to before.

Seriously, it's the first story I did and it isn't great...but it does have its moments!

The Point of Some Return - Page 1 [of 10]

It doesn't look very much the same, but this story is a variation of a very old story I drew prior to the "official" beginning of this incarnation of "The Gods of Arr-Kelaan".

A quick summation for the new readers: I have been drawing "The Gods of Arr-Kelaan" in one form or another for about 22 years. For a long time, I tended to get about 20 or 30 pages into a story and then just stop. Then I would get frustrated, stick it in a drawer and some time later (months or years) I'd start the whole thing up again.

The official first story of "The Gods of Arr-Kelaan" as you know and love it started with the 77 page "For the Death of Kings" (currently only available as a backup feature in the printed "Going Home: Book One", but soon to be available as a downloadable PDF).

So this story is based on one I did originally prior to "For the Death of Kings", but was completely rewritten and drawn specifically with the events of "Consequences" in mind. I believe I drew this either near the end of the first book or the beginning of the second.

I've done this before, actually. "Volume Zero" was actually a redraw/rewrite of one of the original beginnings for "The Gods of Arr-Kelaan" that I had submitted to Fantasy magazines (and been rejected) way before I wrote "For the Death of Kings."

If this story seems vaguely familiar, it is because many years ago you read the original which was presented as a vote incentive.

The Point of Some Return - Cover

This story appeared (mostly) in the third Drunk Duck anthology, "Drunk Duck: Drunk on Laughter". Due to an editorial error (not my fault, all on Platinum ... but don't be hard on them, these things happen), the fourth page was not included.

It was printed in black and white, but by this point my brother had gotten into the habit of doing most of the effects in color and grayscaling afterwards. So when I created the PDF of it to sell online, I colored the few bits that weren't already in color and saved it (I think, my memory is hazy), intending on including it in "Consequences", book 2. But I didn't.

I am especially proud of this title, and a quick google search shows that if I'm not the first to use it, I'm the most popular online :)

So unless you paid $.75 to download the PDF, this will be the first time you've seen it complete and in color. Enjoy.

Sketch #5

The last of the sketches for now. I still have a handful that I'll probably post after the story that starts on Tuesday.

Again, this was a sketch request (I give free sketches upon request when someone buys my books) and I tried my darndest to both fulfill the request and to make it part of Arr-Kelonian canon. This request was to draw two fantasy characters that I hadn't heard of before. Kani, a priestess of Bast, and Besturn, the completely hairless dwarf fighter guy.

This was probably the first request I ever got to draw some characters that are not my own. And I'm afraid I'm do not know who originally created these characters - it could possibly have been the gentleman who requested the sketch for all I know.

The back story for these guys was about 2 fairly dense pages of information, and I came up with the idea of framing it in a Bikk-cleric scheme as I was sketching out the character's looks. It amused me, so I ran with it.

Sketch #4

So, when people are kind enough to order my print books I offer to draw a sketch for them, so long as they understand that it could delay their shipments.

These sketches are done in blue pencil and then inked directly onto the original. As a result, they lack some of the polish of the regular pages, but they are fun for me to do and I often let loose in the sketch in a way I can't in the comic.

With the handful of sketches that were requested this time around, I did my best to draw sketches that could conceivably be part of Arr-Kelonian canon.

The above text was written specifically for the online comic, and is the interpretation of the sketch that I had in mind as I was drawing it. Since these sketches were posted prior to shipping the books, it is conceivable that the people who ordered them will be seeing them here for the first time.

In this sketch, I was asked to draw a picture of an everyday scene on The Traveller. This could have been anything, but I really liked the knight driving a car, so I made him a reckless cabby. This one was a lot of fun!
