stupid dumb status update
jtbltz: so when are you going to update dbp?
OmegaVelocity: Eventually is really the only answer I can give at this point
OmegaVelocity: I'm going through a lot; both in terms of life issues (don't want to get into that, let's just say things have been stressful) and changing views on the way DBP is made, there's a lot that makes it difficult to just jump back into making them on a regular basis
jtbltz: Yeah I know what you mean
OmegaVelocity: July is completely packed with trips and events and there is just so much that I'm going to have to do
jtbltz: oh?
jtbltz: whatchya got planned?
OmegaVelocity: Four seperate trips to Ohio, Florida, Vermont and possibly California, at least 4 or 5 days long each
OmegaVelocity: Plus our band is going to be going into the recording stage this month
OmegaVelocity: And I guess I'm going to try and hit up a couple Angels & Airwaves concerts too, if at all possible. They aren't in New England very often so I figure it'd be worth it to attend the shows that actially are
OmegaVelocity: Then there's the whole mentality that I've had since DBP was concieved, and that's that to be worth anything at all it constantly needs to evolve and improve upon itself, and at this point I don't know where to go past what I have
jtbltz: improve the writing
jtbltz: the drawing is already incredible
OmegaVelocity: I've always gotten complaints that the writing isn't strong enough, and I've tried to improve on that, but on the other hand I've always been an artist first and a writer second
OmegaVelocity: I don't want to just give up and ignore my subpar abilities in that area. Maybe Buckley can, but I'd at least like to get better at what I do, y'know?
jtbltz: exactly
jtbltz: well maybe you need to find a good writer?
OmegaVelocity: At the risk of sounding like a total dick, I'd like to refrain from collaborating with anyone as far as the actual comic goes
OmegaVelocity: It's not something I've enjoyed doing in the past, and I feel like I'm better off remaining responsible for everything that comes out of DBP
jtbltz: well
jtbltz: perhaps you should give dbp a little break
jtbltz: and create an entirely new comic
OmegaVelocity: I've been contemplating that.
So that's pretty much that. Any other questions can go toward DeathByPixel@yahoo.com or OmegaVelocity on AIM and I'll try and respond as truthfully as I can. As always, my DeviantArt page is still being updated on a semi-regular basis too.

Maybe if life cuts me a break and I figure out where I want to go with the comic, I'll find some time in August when everything else is over and done with. We'll see.

Catch you guys on the flipside.

ATTN!: I do listen.

Pictured above are my three Brawl mains, and it's come to my attention that up to this point I've neglected to actually post my friend code for the game; for those curious, it's 3050-7236-4966, and if you drop me a PQ (here), email (DeathByPixel@yahoo.com), IM (OmegaVelocity) or psychic mind note (dilerium?) with your FC, I'm pretty much always up for a game.

So I guess that pretty much wraps it up. See y'alls on the fabled Monday when I actually have workable ideas handy. :D

Peace out

(04/28/2008) Aeris Lives

Well, Frank seemed like a douche to me.

The events that take place in the above comic are woefully true; ever since Brawl came out, I've been curious as to what exactly Metal Gear as a series was about. Like, I knew what it was ABOUT, sneak around, take out bad guys, stop the nuclear missle and all that, but at the time I had never actually played any of the (fairly numerous) installments in the series. A week or so ago, however, a friend of mine brought Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes to a party we had both gone to, and I asked him if I give it a spin. I started playing through it, having a ton of fun, etc... and, well, the rest played out as shown above.

I ended up buying the game and finishing it on my own, but it was too late. I suppose it's my fault for finally playing the game ten years later than everyone else, but, well, it hurt. On the inside.

I'd better start shopping for the other two before it's too late.

Peace out

(04/21/2008) Thanks For The Tip

Hey there, everyone!

After two months of time taken off from the comic, DBP is back. I could always arrange a huge wall-of-text newspost filled with what exactly happened while the comic was gone, complete with trademark narcassistic rambling and laughably unclever wordplay, but I figure I'll try what everyone else does in times like these; a fake Q&A session! Fun stuff. Here's what you need to know;

Q: Where'd you go and why did it take so long to come back?

A: After the SEGA prototype comic, 3 weeks were initially taken off to work on art and establish more of an 'identity' for the Death By Pixel style. On the third weekend I wrote up a gigantic script based on my trip to Anime Boston, intending the 60-panel comic (!) to mark DBP's return with a little more bang than expected. Naturally I wasn't going to be able to complete a comic of that size within a weekend, so I pushed it back a couple weeks (some really nasty real-life issues got in the way, which come first priority) before finally deciding to go with something more simple and self-referential, which is the comic you see above.

Q: So what's going to happen with the Anime Boston comic?

A: It may or may not be split into four parts and released on here at a later date. The con already happened a month ago and I'm a little wary of producing an entire story arc around an "old subject" like AB. Ultimately if I decide against using it in any form I'll post the original sketches/script up for shits and giggles.

Q: Are you returning to the prior update schedule?

A: Yes, the every-Monday schedule is returning to some extent. While I'll try to make one for the start of each week, occasionally I will miss it; the difference from before being I won't go on a rant in the comments section of the old comic about doing so. If I miss a comic, then just wait another week; there are other webcomics out there you can read. If I ever plan on leaving for more than that I'll try and let you guys know.

Q: Didn't you say you were moving to another site a while back?

A: We will be moving to the Snafu Comics stable sometime in the near future. Stay tuned for more news on that.

Q: Any chance of a DBP store at some point?

A: There's going to be a DBP section of the Shark Robot store opening soon; while there are already a few designs I've been working on for a little while now, if there's anything in specific you'd like to see you can always let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Q: What happened to the animated series?

A: It's on indefinite hiatus. Everything's in place but the scripts are very "Death By Pixel 2006", and that's just not the kind of feel the comic has anymore; on top of that, I don't have the kind of time to pump out another few 21-minute scripts in a month or so like I used to be able to. HOWEVER! There's something else I've been working on on the animation side of things as of late, and while it isn't nearly as huge as the prior series, with any luck, you guys will enjoy it if/when it comes out.

Q: What was the surprise announcement related to the animated series you mentioned a while back?

A: We had - through miraculous, almost genuinely impossible circumstances - gotten ahold of Crush 40 to do the title theme for DBPA. Now that the animated series is on indefinite hold, the song was never made; however, the opportunity is always there...

Q: The new style looks weird!

A: It's a work in progress. Feel free to provide suggestions if you'd like, I'm always open for critique.

Q: Do you have other stuff outside of DBP nowadays?

A: Well, I just opened a DeviantArt page, and... well, I guess I've got a YouTube channel too. :E

Q: Didn't you say on IRC that the last panel was going to be...

A: Yes. I changed it because not everyone knows the deal with SA's webcomic thread.

Q: For some reason, some of the comics in your archive aren't there anymore...

A: I went through and deleted some of the comics that gave DBP a certain reputation that, well... you can see pretty clearly in the alternate comic from the last question. I was Jade's age myself when I made a lot of those comics and why exactly making them with that sort of subject matter was an almost inexpressibly terrible, dangerous idea was above me at the time. I apologize if any of those comics offended you; they gave DBP an image it really shouldn't have, and that's why they're gone. Note that if for some reason you absolutely need to see any of those deleted comics, you can drop me an email or IM and I'll send them to you, but keep in mind there's a reason they aren't in the archives anymore.

Q: Did you not also say that you were going to record yourself inking this strip?

A: pffft no way of course not

Q: Omega: also, read the newspost

A: Kroze: I did. Needs moar Kroze

Q: ????

A: profit

And I'm pretty sure that should cover most of it. If there's anything else you want answered, ask in the comment box and I'll edit this newspost accordingly.

Sorry all this took so long, and until next time!

(04/14/2008) GUEST: (C) 2008 Sonic Team, Ltd.

The "ware-hog" sections are worrying to say the least, yes, but otherwise it pretty much looks like a console version of Rush, which is not a bad thing by any stretch, and the fact that it apparently started out as a third Adventure title makes me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside. I guess I'll wait for E3 impressions, but here's hoping.

Sorry for what has been the longest wait for another comic in the time DBP's been around, but my shiny new Graphire 3 is finally coming in sometime between tomorrow and Thursday, thank god, so the comic will be back soon, I promise. I miss drawing with a tablet a lot and I'm pretty excited to get back into the swing of things.

Today's guest comic by the awesome WTHecksicle, who makes the also-awesome Epic Q which you should read. Like... now.

Go on! I can wait.

BE BACK SOON :O :O :O :O :O
