The pathetic robot from chapter 2 is back...

Thanks a lot for reading and commenting!

REPLIES:

SoraNezumi: Mmmmmmaybe :P

JustNoPoint: Haha... I bet he is.

mmm bacon0, skreem: Thanks!

alejkhan: Yay, glad you're back! Apology happily accepted - signifikat just isn't the same without you.

DAJB: Well... in "mahoganous" relationships with HIM... yes. :D

REPLIES:

JNP: As for your first paragraph - wait and see. The second: Yes and no; it IS "the sex thing", just not ANY kind of sex. He's not denying himself any kind of sex, just certain kinds - the kinds he doesn't want, obviously. Third: Um, yeah. Cartoon logic applies. Or they both just don't care. Or the author doesn't care. Pick whatever explanation suits you ^__^ Oh, and... I'm afraid didn't get what you got (your second comment)... coffee? Hot? How? And lastly, the banner: Thank YOU! :P

JNP (again): Ah! I thought there was something else to the "hot coffee" joke which I didn't get... but seems like I got it after all :P As for "the sex he wants": I made a forum post about this here. Not that I dislike discussions in the comment section, but I'd been contemplating taking this discussion elsewhere all along, because it's touching the central theme of the comic. And a discussion like that is what the forum's been missing :P

mmm bacon0: Thanks!

c_arnold: The mystery man will be revealed on the next page :P

DAJB: Oh, but you should complain, otherwise she'll never learn :P I think she wasn't too modest to begin with, but her time living alone must have also left a mark on her personality.

Chapter 5 Page 05

Simon & Garfunkel say hello! I actually heard "I Am A Rock" on the radio last week, and even though I've known that song forever, it was the first time I actually really listened to the lyrics (You probably know this phenomenon first-hand... when you're very accustomed to a song you won't consciously listen to the lyrics). And so I found myself appreciating its lyrics for the first time, and I thought I just HAD to include them on signifikat.

In the philosophy of language, there's a very basic (and quite Wittgensteinian) difference between statements and expressions - statements referring to objective facts, expressions referring to subjective states. Can you guess which is which on this page? :P

Thanks for reading and commenting.

REPLIES:

DAJB: Agreed, I'd also consider myself "just" a big fan of the "Graceland" LP, not of Paul Simon himself. That's not to say I don't like most of his other stuff though... I'm just not that big a fan (say, I wouldn't defend poor Paul in an argument :P).

SoraNezumi: Couldn't have said it better!

Nepath: So it IS a universal experience after all :P

mmm bacon0: Thanks!

My original script had a little bit of internal monologue here, but I figured this page would be more effective without words... now everyone can make of it what they will.

Note: I caught a cold*, so I may have worked on this page while being delirious. Although the real surprise should be that I was NOT delirious while working on the other pages!

Thanks for reading and commenting.

*(...which I probably contracted from alejkhan. (Disclaimer: Comment only valid and/or funny if she reads this though. Which is rather stupid, since this is quite public after all. Oh well.))

REPLIES:

JNP:

The rational response would be: There are indefinitely many forms of love, an indefinite amount of things that can count as exemplifying this concept, so who am I to judge what should be called love and what shouldn't? The emotional response is: Of course many talks about love are just hurting my ears, be it either because they're pretentious or because they're just the erratic expression of a hormonal/neuronal state. Personally, I think love has to do with (1) hormones, (2) mutual understanding, and (3) commitment (not necessarily in this order). So of course "love at first sight" has less to do with (2) and (3), and thus might be suspect. But again, who am I to judge? :P
Oh, and about the ego thing: I was more or less referring to a study which says that the lower the educational standard of a person, the younger he or she will be when having sex for the first time. If that's a compliment for virgins, it's a bitter one!

mmm bacon0: Thanks!

DAJB: Given the emotional way he's reacting I wouldn't say it means "nothing" to him ;-P
