A Cow Conundrum: The Cow Wins.

When Andrew's on your side, you can't lose! It's proven fact between these three.

So, this wraps up our latest storyline. And it only took four months! Yay. :P

We'll be seeing Betsy from time to time. Now, the question is, when the heck will we see the next comic page? My next storyline is probably going to be the longest yet, with four interconnected parts that detail the first, unusual date of Toni and Jared. I've got the entire first part scripted and ready to be drawn, so the pressure's on CK to get to work.

I may be taking on my old job of flats colorist for a time as well, seeing as the other computer, used by my new colorist, is giving a lot of grief and refusing to boot over 50% of the time.

Either way, I would really like to get an entire part of the storyline finished and ready before I actually post any of the pages. I have a feeling the storyline will move smoother and be more enjoyable if everyone doesn't have to wait two weeks per page. :P

In the meantime, I'm going to post some of the oh-so-dreaded filler artwork now and again, so at least there'll be something here until the next storyline is completed.

Reply time....

@Trevor: I have no problem with people leaving 5s, but I find it hard to bring myself to leave them. I suppose I may have to start, seeing as it takes me about ten minutes to put my thoughts down into one coherent comment. :P

@Lulululuqtqt: Ha, ha! If that means you need to loosen up, I wonder what it says about me? I'm so darn proper I end up correcting myself whenever I misspell a word during a chat. I think it can get quite annoying after a while, especially when the person I'm chatting to doesn't notice until I point it out. :P

@Freefall_Drift: That's right. Now, I suppose the only thing missing is a moral. Oh, almost forgot. Don't steal cows, kids. Pay for them. That makes for a pretty nice moral, no?

@Patrickdevine: Actually...now I'm thinking a cow might be a good idea! I hate mowing the grass, I love fresh milk, and cows have such an endearing personality! On the other hand, one must get up early, and have a reasonable shelter (which would be taxed) for the winter. Hmm, I wonder if Henry thought of any of this? :P

@Flup: Well, as you can see, Andrew approves of Henry's little acquisition. :)

@Kid: Oh dear. Yes, I don't think Jared would have liked being the sudden owner of a new cow. Although it gives me an idea for a later gag....

A Cow Conundrum: A Better Plan.

See? When Henry tries, he can sometimes do the right thing.

Damn, this one is beyond late. To be honest, I've basically scrubbed the month of October. Fortunately, there's only one more page in this storyline, and then I'm going to discuss things with my artist so we can have a nice big mess of pages for the next, considerably more epic, plot I have scripted. I really want to get back on a regular schedule for it, 'cause it's gonna be a story best told in rather quicker segments than I've been handling this month.

Getting back into a set routine is going to be a big focus, even with everything I've got on my plate, I think it might be possible. In the meantime, I want to thank all of you for not completely ditching my lazy bum. I know, it's the free cookies I give out, but still, thanks. Here's hoping to a better November!

@Flup: Glad you liked it. That line was kind of a throwaway that CK helped make better with Henry's nearly crazed expression on this page. To be honest, I wasn't making fun of vegetarians, just Henry. He'd done it to try and impress a girl and...you know what? One of these days I'll have to showcase all of the outlandish things he has ever done to try and get a date.

@Amanda: Thanks very much. It was a trying time for a couple weeks there as everyone adjusted, but I think we're doing so much better now. :)

@Lulululuqtqt: Thanks. It was rough for a while, but we're adjusting as best we can. And as to your other comment, yes, I think there's a distinct difference to the way someone speaks and the way proper writing should be done. I mean, real people tend not to be the most proper when it comes to language, and thus conversations in books and comics should follow that attitude to a degree.

@Trevor: I know. I'm the same way. I tend not to leave comments more and more as of late--seems it's becoming harder for me to come up with and write my usual thought-out comments--but rest assured, I'm always reading. I just use "Thanks for reading!" as a kinda generic reply when given a 5 without comment. I don't mind them, far from it, but I feel compelled to acknowledge them.

@SlideStudios: Thanks you. :)

@Kid: You ought to be. Be ashamed! Very ashamed! Extra ashamed even!

Really, buddy, you've just got to get back on the ball. And I'll help in anyway I can. We can get back into a working schedule, I know it! :)

---

Again, thanks for your patience everyone! I'm hoping to stop saying that soon. :P

A Cow Conundrum: A New Plan.

I'll say one thing for Henry, he's never short of ideas. But will his new one work out better than his last? One can hope....

Well, it's been a really nasty week. My beloved grandmother passed away on Monday, and since then it's been a pretty busy time dealing with emotions and arraignments. It's been rough, but we're getting through it as best we can.

Not much else in the way of news. We're finally drawing closer to the end of this storyline, I've got a good amount of the next one scripted up, and it should be a fun, albeit long, one.

In the meantime, it's time for some responses.

---

@Lulululuqtqt: I can't recall if the "Yeeaah" was in my original script or if CK winged it to fill some extra room. I do know that I likely wouldn't have dragged it out. Unfortunately, being a somewhat stuffy grammar fool, I forget how it's best to make comics "sound". It's completely different from writing a novel.

@Rainstorm: Thanks for reading!

@Trevor: Thanks for reading!

@Kid: You didn't have it done by Wednesday. :(

Do I need to dust off my old Hurtin' Stick?

@Amanda: Well...it was quite a cow-like description, was it not? I felt it accurately described Betsy. He even got her eyes right! ;)

@Nigbun: Thanks! I do so enjoy giving each character a unique voice. More often than not, I fail miserably, but every now and again it works out. Happens to help that old Vermonter accents come fairly naturally to me. ;)

@Flup: You know what? I mentioned that expression to CK the second time I saw this page. I just couldn't suppress a chuckle at it. She's definitely got a good hand at expressions it seems. :)

---

That's all for now. We'll be back as soon as we can with a new page. :)

A Cow Conundrum: She's Right Behind Me.

Cows are not adept at playing hide-and-seek.

Amazing, can it be? An update that isn't several weeks in the making?! It is! Surely this is a sign of the coming apocalypse.

Well, I'm still playing the seemingly eternal game of catch-up, hampered ever so slightly by plasma blasts of death, but finally it looks like there's a silver lining in these clouds. With the addition of a new flats colorist (CK still handles the gradient and shading duties), the comic producing speed has been effectively tripled! At least, compared to when I was doing the colors. :P

And just who is this mystery colorist? Well, in the tradition of keeping the creative process in the family (and not wanting to pay anyone) I made the clever choice of...my brother. He's a learning artist and colorist, making slow but steady progress, and this just gives him another outlet to practice with.

Some of his work can be viewed on his deviantART account, located here.

Now, in the meantime, I think it's time to reply to some comments I neglected last week-ish.

---

@lulululuqtqt: It seems the general opinion is that it's not overly weird at all. In fact, I only received one comment on it being weird, and that wasn't on here! I suppose we all must have someone to share our thoughts with. :)

@Trevor: And this time I'm hoping to keep it around without those terribly long pauses in-between.

@Amanda: And if it is weird, at least it's the normal kind of weird! Right? I talk to certain family members, who shall go unnamed, and most times I might as well be talking to a rotting tree for all the good it does me. :P

@Flup: Help? Hardly. Where would the fun be if it was someone to help. ;)

@Patrickdevine: Yes, those cows certainly sound like jerks! Why, I wouldn't be surprised if they were those young city cows, too hip to listen to anything but that terrible Elvis music! For shame! :P

@Kid: New pens, new comic pages, new assistant colorist, new and somewhat frightening rash! Everything is new these days! :D

A Cow Conundrum: The Fuzz is Coming, the Fuzz is Coming!

Henry only considers the consequences of his actions when the potential for jail time is apparent. :P

Holy licorice sticks in a blender, Batman! It's been a month since I last updated the comic? What happened? Well for some reason this page gave me hell, but more to the point this page will mark the last major page I have a strong hand in coloring. I am a writer first and foremost, and most of my time is spent writing stories or scripts, and August was spent specifically obsessed with finishing a somewhat lengthy short story, so I had little time for coloring.

CK, in her few instances of free time, managed to get this done, and I thank her heartily for it. Now, I believe I have a slightly more permanent solution lined up; one that, with any luck, shall benefit both of us and give her more time for drawing and me more time for writing. :)

In the meantime, my apologies for the considerable delay in getting the next page out.

Oh, and for the past couple months, CK has been redrawing and recoloring some of the early AROTD strips into page format. It's been slow progress in among her work on AROTD and while developing a spin-off from this comic, but she's finished a redone version of the first strip, and it's considerably better! Here's a link to the first page of the comic. AROTD page 1, redrawn!

Well, I'm hoping this won't happen again, though I am very hesitant to make any promises. We'll do what we can though.
