1000th Page Spectacularrrrrr!

There it is. The final Ultimate X. Hope it was worth the wait!

When I started Ultimate X I was 19. This time next week I'm going to be 24. I'm going to spend the next four and a bit years trying to think of a way to end that thought with something profound and meaningful.

I want to thank everyone who's ever read our comic, and raise a middle finger to those who haven't. Nah, just kidding, you guys'll come around one day. I'd also like to thank my co-writers / co-stars - Brooks, Dez, Irene, Rob and Ryne for all the help they've give me over the years. And one last thanks to skoolmunkee for last week's news post in which she referred to us as much-loved. Awwww. Made my day.

Now, at the risk of getting all sentimental (damn it Rob, stop crying), moving on to other things...

A couple of days ago Drunk Duck's very own Locoma sent me some fanart as a parting gift, so I thought I'd share it with you guys here. Thanks Mr Monk. You rock!

Stay tuned for news on the second volume of our book. You can still pick up the first one here. As an added bonus here's Brooks posing with his copy AND DAMN SHAVEN HAIR SO IT MAKES IT LOOK LIKE I CAN'T DRAW!!! You win this round Brooks...

Pashed

Uh oh, Ryne's got his hands on the time travel remote, that can't be good. Will he take us back in time for a waltz down memory lane? Or propel us forward into the future? Or even... something else? Stay tuned for next week's CONCLUSION!

In other news, thanks to Holy Sock and Locoma for both taking part in the 198 challenge. You can find their submissions below.

Guest Starring You!

Last week I said we'd have a special guest star in this comic, and we do! It's YOU! Awwwww... Been wanting to do this one for a while, but just never got around to it until now.

I finished this one a little early and showed it to Rob, who seemed to think the girl in panel 4 is that one from the Ting Tings, because of that song 'That's Not My Name'. An extremely coincidental reference since that's not really my type of music, but I have decided it should be her anyway. I envy his lady pulling skillz.

Oh, and fear my scathing political satire in panel 2. Fear it!

Feel free to put yourself in this comic and e-mail it to me and I'll link it from here. If I get enough I might make a section on our main site called '198' and put a gallery up. You can send them to m_wszelaki(at)yahoo.com.au

EDIT: Oh look, here's one by one of our many fans already...

Next week: Part 1 of our 2 part finale! See you in 7.

Best Comic Ever!

Didn't I tell you last week it was going to be the best comic ever? See, I wouldn't lie to you.

Not long after taking these photos, I ripped those pants in the buttocks region by sitting on the couch. Obviously those pants were no match for my buns of steel. It also goes to show that 100 pages is about right for a change of clothes...

Is it sad that I can only win awards when I write and draw me doing so into a comic? I don't think so! This is my middle finger to the world of awards and competition winning.

I like how Scarlett Johansson came out in panel 3. Jack Nicholson in panel 4 isn't too bad, though behind him is a terrible Megan Fox and Brangelina. It's hard drawing people small, ok?

Aaaaaand, just thought I'd add that Dance, Dance Spider-Man Revolution was inspired by that awful musical number in Spider-Man 3, but turned into a combination of Dance, Dance Revolution and Spider-Man will make you gay.

Addressing Holy Sock's question from last week: why am I ending the comic? Well, there are a few reasons. Feel free to pick your favourite!

* It's getting harder to produce them on schedule whilst juggling work. Writing handouts, mid-year reports and marking assignments sucks! I don't know why anyone would want to go into teaching. I'm over it.
* There's no financial benefit. The small profit I make from book sales is nothing to retire on. I'm lucky to have anything left after the bank takes their 'currency conversion' fee. And speaking of the book... it's now had the 30% markup removed on Amazon so if you'd prefer to order it through there instead of Lulu, you'll be paying the Lulu price. (Please buy it, only you can prevent panel 5 of last week's comic.).
* I've got a heap of other things I want to work on as well, which I can't find the time to do if I'm working on Ultimate X. Frogman is a good example of this. Last update October 12th, 2008? Hello! Not good enough!
* Rob, Irene, Dez, Brooks, Ryne and I used to have weekly meetings where they'd help me come up with stories and panel layouts, etc. Gradually people started moving on with their lives and had no time to help me. This is fair enough, but I'd like to have a bit of a life too.
* Nothing lasts forever... in the cold November rain. (This includes webcomics).

Next week: A very special guest star! Oooh, who could it be?

*Ulp* Three more to go...

Oh, and I'm working on the second volume of the book as well.

Sequel

So I thought as well as telling you guys in the comments, I needed to write Mike ending the comic into the comic. It makes sense since we've referenced the comic before... i.e. in last weeks page.

Tina Fey is awesome. I actually did model the Mayor off her, so who better suited to play her in a movie?

Also, what's the deal Drunkduck? I set in a private quack about a month ago with news of the comic ending AND of our fourth birthday (May 11th) and it never made it onto the news page. I guess... no one cares... *sniff*. I mean, I know it's not as riveting as another sprite comic reaching 25 pages, but still... it's news, right?

Next week: The best comic EVER! :D

Only four to go now!
