hey guys,
we are now entering the zone of the big flash back, which is also killing this comic. for what ever reason nothing I draw ever looks as good on the computer as it does in real life. that's the wa it is with this page. Otherwise I can't find much fault with it. The dialogue does suck but my dialogue always sucks and therefore is excusable. I shoudl probably plan out my nest comic better.

hey guys!
it's an actual update today. if you want to hear my excuse for why I haqven't updated for a month check the previous page for the comment I left there. I was sick as a dog when I did this page so some of he faces are kinda funny because I was concentrating harder on making sure that my nose didn't drip onto the page than I was getting the faces right. it's also the reason why the dialogue sucks. We're about to launch into flashback. I'm utterly being killed by it because I'm trying to cram so much into about five pages and the level of detail reqired is high. now would probably be a good time to tell you all that I'm running out of updates very quickly. then I'll have to start updating when ever I finish a page instead of every week like I should have been doing.

8/22/06

Hey guys finally got back from china. I know I said that I'd only be gone for a couple of weeks but when I got back my life went down the drain for two weeks. Actually it's still going down the drain but I'm sort of used to it now. I was also planning on putting up a special china bonus page, but the pictures aren't back from the lab yet.

Anyways this was actually the thirteenth page in the comic even though the title says page 14. I was really wierd but while I was drawing this page I was using one of those woodden drawing models to help me with a pose and then all of a sudden while I'm bending a leg the screw pops out onto my desk. And I was like "Heck that's wierd. OH well the screw has been coming loose for a while now."
So I screw it back in and I start bending an arm--but then the whole leg falls out! And I just stare at it for a minute and I'm like WHAT THE HELL! The screw was still in the leg socket too. As it turns out what happenned was that the screw didn't actually connect to the leg. The screw held a spring in the socket and the spring was connected to the leg. So when I put the screw back in I didn't line the spring and the screw up. I guess thirteen really is an unlucky number.

Aereis: She figures that she has a better chance of escaping from Kai than she does of escaping from the saltmines. That plus she thinks Kai looks like a pansy.

moonelfchick: Thanks! But the fact that me and the person who draws fullmetal alchemist have slightly simular styles does help. I'm not as good with styles that are very shojo based.

Krae: what's spl?

Gone to China

7/20/06
I know the joke was kind of lame but it was either that or nothing. Also I'm sorry if some of you don't even get the joke. It doesn't really make sense unless you've seen Fullmetal Alchemist, but again it was that or nothing. Basically that wierd thing on the far right is the younger brother of the guy in the middle. His name is Alphonse. Al is dead and his brother, being an alchemist, transmuted his soul into a suit of armor. One of the creatures on their world is a chimera which is a creature made up of lots of other creatures or in some cases humans and animals. This is strictly forbbiden. The guy in the middle is Edward Elric. Together they are the Elric brothers and Ed has a height complex about how short he is.

Ed is sort of a hot-headed guy and Myth is more of the cold calculating type since she's usually up against people who are bigger and stronger than her and so she learned the hard way that if she loses her temper like ed she'll be beaten to a plup.

At first I was going to do a simplified version of ed thus his head is a circle and then after I inked it and before I drew in the face I realized that I wanted to do him realistic after all but didn't feel like redoing it.

Originally I really wanted to do this page in color using studio marker but it didn't really work out because I realized too late that I didn't have any of the colors I needed for Myth or Al. It's really difficult to blend colors with marker.

Next I tried colored pencil.
didn't work. The paper I used was for marker and was too smooth for the pencils to get any traction.

Next I tried watercolor.
didn't work. the paper you use for marker is really not absorbent because if it is it bleeds everywhere. the type of paper you should use for water color needs to me super absorbent so when I tested it the color came out all wierd and blotchy

Next I tried to photoshop it which also didn't work. In my idiocy I was still on comic drawing mode when I inked it so there was hatching that made it so I couldn't select large chuncks and couldn't color around it plus the cheap paper came out all bluish in the background.

I ruled out oil, acrilyic, chalk, pastel, and guache because I either didn't have it or it was opaque so it would cover up the lines, or in the case of oil would just destroy it. And so it came ot be that I just went back to boring old black and white. I really really wanted to do this in color for once, and I got frustrated enough that I just wanted to tear the -ing thing apart but I knew I'd regret that later since I started to figure out expression and body language on this piece and it really turned out well. So yes, that is my excuse for being late this week. Thanks for listening to me whine.

@Darkest1: No don't tell me Darren's friend-- *gasp*!

Alexandera: I'm glad you liked my advice so much. Now if only I could remember what advice I gave you. Maybe I shoudl start going harder on you guys when I comment about art work.

Moonelfchick:I guess I'll be seeing you in heaven then if I get in too. You notice how my comments are getting longer and longer? I think it's because I know that some poor good soul will actually read them now. ^_^

Hey guys sorry I'm a couple days late with this page again. I got a job as an intern adn I fall asleep where I'm standing every night (compared to my usual bedtime of about 2:30. On the plus side I GOT MY FIRST PAYCHECK TODAY! ^0^

Otherwise give Mika yi a cookie too since he too now reads the author comment section. Or maybe a stack of manga would suit her better. Also Elfmoonchick stop apologizing. You didn't do anything wrong hunney.

Onto to what I should really be talking about, the page. I had a lot of fun with that last panel. Especially the waves and I look forward to doing more exageration of emotions because heck they're fun. In the past few years I've been moving away from realism and have been playing around with exageration in the name of expression. I don't know if you can tell from the stuff here but I'm pretty good and super detailed realism and have been known to spend days trying to get curves jsut right. But I'm getting off topic. From here on I'm going to try not to use the conventional exagerated expression I've been using so often. I've found that I'm not so good at emotions and body language I'd like to improve on that.
