I just have painful memories from when Emeril was the premiere celebrity chef during the mid to late nineties.
You know, when The Food Network used to have actual chefs in their programs and not pretty people who “enjoy cooking”.
I remember back in the day, every kitchen had ONE.
He would garnish a plate with parsley, and have to let out a “BAM!” This same fellow would be making something, add some spice, and let the whole kitchen know how he was “kickin’ it up to notches unknown”. You can bet that every time he squeezed a lemon, he was in fact “forkin’” it.
Sure, it was funny the first week. Hell, I even laughed a little the second and third week. But soon my laugh (as well as everyone else in the kitchen) gave way to a forced chuckle, followed shortly thereafter by murderous rage! Meanwhile, Emeril-boy, like the energizer bunny, kept going, and going, and going….
Our particular Emeril- boy was canned, but not for being an obnoxious tool as you might think. You see, he had developed his own “essence” (which was really nothing more than McCormick’s Cajun Spice). Seeing as how we were working in an Italian Restaurant, he was bringing it in from home…and putting it in EVERYTHING!
When the chef noticed this, he asked Emeril-boy to stop.
But, Emeril-boy refused!
Emeril-boy was out a job.
I wonder where he is now, and if he’s still doing his Emeril shtick?
Those were simpler times.
Wherever you are dude…
