| | jazzy | First off, I want to say I realize that there are alot of people down on their luck with incredible tales of woe, and it's not right to make light of their plight.
However, as anyone who has ever worked in a metropolitan area knows, being panhandled on a daily basis can be quite aggrivating. Most days I have to look over my shoulder before lighting a cigarette, just because someone usually comes out of nowhere wanting to know if I have an "extra one". Like, when I bought the pack for fucking six dollars someone threw in a few bonus cigs.
When I was just a wee lad first starting out, leaving my prep job in the city at an UNGODLY hour of the night I'll admit, I emptied my pockets to anyone that approached me out of sheer fear alone. But, then one day I started leaving with the Sous Chef, and he always had a pocket full of job applications. He would give them to the poor souls that accosted him, and say, "I work hard for my money, why don't you give it a try?".
A couple of times I thought we were going to die.
Like I said, I feel for those less fortunate, but, there were many a night, when someone would approach me and say, "Hey I'm just down the road, my car's broke down, and I'm a little short for a tow, can you help a brother out?".
And then I would see them again the next day with the same story...
And then the next day...
And the day after that...
etc...
