I am presently suspended a week from my job as of Saturday. The General Manager at the restaurant where I cook loves to call meetings. These meetings are know as "premeals", and, are a waste of time. They are mandatory everyday. The point is to go over the specials, talk about business, and how to be better overall across the board. They are a good idea in theory, but he always does them when they're conveniant for him. Usually, right before service. This is a crucial time when everyone is scrambling. Nobody cares what the dude's saying, because everyone if focused on how much work they still have to do, and the little time left to do it, before the restaurant opens. crossing t's, dotting i's stuff... We were very short staffed Saturday. Three people called out. It was chaos, and our G.M. wanted to have a meeting to let everyone know we were short staffed. Believe me...we knew! Did I mention it was chaos. Anyway, I refused to brake from what I was doing. I called him a name or two, and now I'm home for a week. Thankfully, with pay. Instead of stewing, and lamenting these events, I've decided to try and update a new O.C. everyday this week. I'm trying to make some lemonade out of all this. At my job, getting a week off with pay is called a vacation. I've never understood how being suspended with pay was supposed to be a punishment unless you were a Playboy photographer or something... -Posted on Oct 15, 2007
