The DrunkDuck Interview:
Ronson
What are your favorite comics today?
Well, I can't get enough of Warren Ellis' work. Transmetropolitan and Planetary are excellent, but so are his shorter works. I have yet to read anything bad by him. I also like Mark Waid's superhero stories, Bendis' Ultimate Spiderman breathes new life into a stale character, anything by Chris Ware, "Thieves and Kings" by Mark Oakley ... that list goes on and on as well.
What recommendations would you give to the starting artist?
Two recommendations:
1. Do it because you love it. Any other reason will lead to disappointment.
2. Don't trust your friends when they say how great your work is. They're your friends and they could be being nice, or they could just understand you better than the stranger reading your work. Be as critical as you can with your work and always try to improve. Thank people for constructive criticism, and give it some consideration.
How does it feel to be so recognized and get so much feedback for your comic on Drunk Duck?
I owe most of my success to my visibility on Drunk Duck. I'm really glad people seem to enjoy it.
The feedback is great because comicing is a lonely work. So even though I'm slaving away on pages they won't see for at least a month or so, I am getting a bit of talk about it almost every day. It's very inspiring.
