I like to establish settings early on in scenes, which tends to lead to more exploded storytelling since the opening page or two tends to be less plot or dialogue focused. Some people call this "cinematic storytelling" and Warren Ellis is probably the best at it in comics today. In my work, though, I think it's more of a manga influence, and given unlimited time and budget, I'd no doubt explode the pacing even more.

As both Brent and I were living in NYC when we collaborated on Killing Demons, there's a tremendous amount of city reference in the artwork. I'd often call out certain streets in the script and Brent would often incorporate streets that he happened to be by when illustrating the pages. So, the "New York" of Killing Demons is somewhat of a Manhattan/Brooklyn hybrid, depending on when certain scenes were created. This page in particular kicks off a sequence in Chinatown, which I lived near for about three years.

The illustrators got a keen perspective for the city scape. It's exactly how it would look if one was to pop their head out of a window and took a snapshot.

nice rendition of a hybrid NYC. Got a nice feel to it.

You do some interesting things with the conventions of this sort of story. I look forward to see where it goes.
