WHAT IS >:0??
>:0 is a webcomic that I (Suzi) write, draw, and vomit forth on a daily basis. It's about me and a bunch of my unwholesome friends, and what we do. It started in March, 2006--after being prodded into a few comics by my friends, and finding inspiration in another online comic--and will hopefully last at least until August 2007, when our merry band dissolves for college. Until then, >:0 will remain on Drunk Duck, ruining the lives of the Pope and his associates, as well as running a few jokes into the ground and pissing off environmentalists. And god damn it, don't ever let Brian give you Pringles.
What does >:0 mean?
>:0, pronounced "greater than colon O", is an emoticon depicting anger. In the same family are D:< (dee colon less than) and ):< (end parenthesis colon less than), but they stopped speaking their younger brother some years ago. >:0 doesn't really like to talk about them.
Also, I did a comic on this: #57: Fan Mail!
How do you make your comics?
I don't have the tools right now to draw my comics out very well digitally, so I use a more "traditional" method (which is kind of ironic to say, because it seems unorthodox in the webcomicking world!)
This is how I make a comic:
1. Get idea (usually the longest part)
2. Draw in pencil (I usually just use a mechanical #2)
3. Ink (Lately I've been using these mysterious pens I steal from my art classroom that are merely labeled "espresso". They're okay. Not great, okay. I've also used a few, uhm, what were they, Millenium somethings, Pilot Precision, and a handful of others.)
4. Second inking around the outermost borders of the characters, for cleanliness and emphasis, done with a thicker pen or just dutiful filling-in.
5. Erase!
6. Color characters and some objects with Prismacolor Premier markers. *drool*. My set's running low, so sometimes I resort to other means.
7. Color solid, one-tone backgrounds with artist's colored pencils.
8. Scan! I don't know what dpi I do, it's whatever my scanner's default color settings are XD
9. Crop, resize, do panel lines and text boxes in Paint Shop Pro 7.
10. Upload!
How would you describe your style?
Lazy. No, seriously. I'm actually a pretty serious artist, though not too much of it gets online because it's either too big or sitting in a drawer at school. My comic is a lazy, fun thing to do, but not without its challenges: trying to capture a friend's characteristics in such small parameters can be very frustrating at times, but incredibly rewarding once I've mastered it. It's kind of a shame that people online can't fully appreciate how well I protray my friends within these tiny confines. Think about it. All I work with is hair, the slightest of facial structure changes, the shape of the eyes, the general shape and characteristics of the mouth, body posture, and clothing.
