This is a recent picture I did today. Does this look good enough to have it move up in ranks.

I'll be writing on a story. but how can I make this stand out a bit more.

Pretty good there, you might consider adding a background of some sort, that usually helps the picture stand out quite a bit more. If you have a chance a simple shade in under the hair on the face or wherever you think the light source may cause shadows will give it a little more depth too.
