Lets say your starting a new webcomic and posting it on DD
what kind of stuff would you need to start off with?
how many pages would be considered the preferred starting amount?
wouldn't it be considered kind of bad to start a new webcomic
and have only 1 or 2 pages available to be read off the bat?
is at least 10 considered to be a preferred amount?

One page is just fine man.
10 pages is obviously better though because yu can get people hooked on your story nice and early that way. :)

One page is fine really, the important thing is to just continue updating. Ideally though, I think you should start with enough pages to give the reader a general idea of how the comic is like and what is it about. That way, you can hook in your readers eariler (like ozoneocean said), and the readers can see if they like the comic or not.

I started my first webcomic at one page. It's not like anyone was there to see it on the first day anyway. The second one, I started with three, as I had more of an audience by that point.

Just make sure you don't start with a "Coming Soon" page!

But if you don't, how will people know it's coming?! ;]

Screws up it's eyes, lets out a little moan and says "Oh god, oh god, oh god..."

depends on your planned update schedule, starting with a single page and waiting a week to update again is a bad move.  Starting with one page and updating the first few fairly quickly on the other hand is fine.  It also depends on the content, a stroy needs enough from the get go to grab the readers interest.  A gag comic just needs to make you laugh, but without a few pages strips to show you can be funny more than once and make an impression people might just forget it straight away.
New comic alert. [..]

@Ozone: That was AWFUL! Heh heh!

@Neil_Whitehorn: It's pretty much all good advice you're getting here. Ten pages is about the maximum you want to post; too much at once and people won't want to read it all. Updating regularly is more important than initial quantity of pages. Just don't be one of those people who updates five pages a day!
