Heroes Unite: Fury

Establishing shot: Endless plains in the American midwest, bits of a forest on one side. At the
center of our attention: A farm at night, lit by moonshine.
Sound FX: Bark Bark Bark
The farmâs owner sleeping in his moon-lit bedroom, just waking up from the dogâs bark. His
wife (Angela) is lying next to him, sleeping.
Sound FX: Bark Bark Bark
Farmer: âHush, old girl⦠itâs just a fox or somethingâ¦â
Closer on his face. Eyes open now, heâs unsettled, doubting whether itâs really a fox.
Sound FX: Whhoooooshh
Farmer: âOr the windâ¦â
Same as 1-3, now heâs afraid.
Sound FX: Whud whud THUD
Heâs getting up, grabbing a double-barrel shotgun.
Farmer shouts: âAngela! Quick, gather the children in the barn!â
He adds: âAnd get them some guns!â
The farmer enters the living room in a hurry, fires a shot or two at someone off-panel.
Farmer: âI wonât EVER let you take them away from me!â
Archangel is standing in the splintered door, hidden in shadow. The golden parts of his
costume are glowing. His muscular frame is outlined by the moonlight, heâs looking imposing.
The shots bounce off his chest, leaving sparks or small cinders.
The farmer gasps and drops his shotgun as the muscular figure sweeps into the room and
grabs him by the neck, lifting him up a bit, his feets dangling.
Archangel: âItâs over.â

An FBI agent holds a photo of archangel into the imaginary camera. The agentâs face is a
grimace, heâs under stress, losing his temper.
FBI agent #1: âGabriel Peterson.â
FBI agent #1: âCode-named Archangel.â
FBI agent #1: âWhere is he?!â
The HU Commanderâs office inside the United Nations building, New York. Itâs a bright,
sunny day. Sheâs sitting at her desk with her back to the wall. The room is relatively small, itâs
almost filled by closets and file storage boxes. Itâs on one of the higher floors, so weâre
treated to a nice panorama view of NY through the roomâs only window, which takes up the
complete wall to the Commanderâs left. The roomâs only door is to her right. The FBI agent is
standing in front of her desk (he may have just jumped out of a chair), another sunglassed
agent is standing two steps behind him.
HU Commander: âWell, how should I know? Heâs YOUR keepsake, isnât he?â
FBI agent #1: âUsed to be. We know he signed up for the HU initiative, and we know you
like to keep track of your associates.â
HU Commander: âNot as much as you do, obviously.â
FBI agent #1: âOh PLEASE. Your signature communicators do hide some sort of tracking
device, donât they?â
HU Commander and FBI agent talking.
HU Commander: âFrankly, I couldnât work here if I was the control freak you are. Because I
donât have superpowers to keep my employees in line.â
FBI agent #1: âThen youâll surely understand how dangerous having a loose cannon like Mr
Peterson under your wings might turn out to be. His government contract doesnât deny him
the right to join associations like yours, but it does commit him to undergoing a psychological
test every other week. And he hasnât shown up since Monday.â
HU Commander and FBI agent talking.
HU Commander: âGive him a break, why donât you? From what heâs told me youâve been
keeping him on a very short leash from day one. If I were him Iâd take a week off after all
FBI agent #1: âFYI, he hasnât been taking time off just to go on holiday. Or maybe, I donât
know, youâd consider disrupting government operations some kind of superhuman health spa?
Because just yesterday federal police raided a sect HQ on a farm in the midwest. Involved
months of planning. Destroyed in a jiffy by a mentally unstable guy youâre protecting.â
The two agents leave the room, our POV is towards the door opposite the window front.
FBI agent #1: âOh, and please spare me another witty comeback. Just remember: Hiding him
from me constitutes a federal offense.â
Same point of view as 3-3. The agents have left, the HU Commander is sitting calmly at her
desk. You canât see what sheâs thinking.
Opposite view, out of the window. Archangel is knocking on the window from outside, where
heâs floating â grovelling like a dog outside in the rain who wants back inside. The HU
Commander frowns and remains seated.
Archangel: âCan I come back in nowâ¦?â
HU Commander, adressing Archangel angrily while he enters the room through the window
the Commanderâs just opened.
HU Commander: âWhat were you thinking, kidnapping that girl? As if we didnât have enough
trouble with the government as it is!â
Archangel: âWhoa whoa WHOA! You think sheâd be better of being probed and tested in a
secluded government facility, never seeing the light of day again?â
HU Commander: âIf that was true, why did you take her ONLY?! There were plenty of other
kids in the barn that night, werenât there?â
Archangel: âI⦠Iâd listened in on the federal agents. They said she was to be the only one
handed over to the army.â
HU Commander turns away from him, making a gesture to accompany her ironic âoh greatâ
HU Commander: âOh great. Meaning sheâs either a threat to national security or something to
be used as a weapon. For all we know, you placed an H-bomb smack-dab in the middle of
HU Commander: âWe need to get her out of here and to a secluded spot immediately. Which
will NOW be very hard to do unnoticed.â
Archangel: âI could take her out of here, the same way I brought her in here.â
HU Commander is pissed off, frowning, turning her back to him.
HU Commander: âIf this is all so easy to you, why didnât you take care of this yourself in the
Archangel: âIâm⦠Iâm sorry, but⦠isnât this what Heroes Unite is for? For solving problems
together thatâd be hard for one of us to solve alone?â
HU Commander: âYou got that wrong. HU is there to provide a network for the gifted few, to
combine and oppose threats which endanger countless people. You did the exact opposite â
you put countless people in danger for the sake of two.â
Archangel: âCome on â youâre saying all that just to ease your own conscience, donât you? I
know that deep down you want nothing more than to help us.â
HU Commander: âHow come youâre so sure of that?â
Their debate continues with retained anger on both sides.
Archangel: âYou call yourself a commander, but you canât physically enforce one one single
order youâre giving your men. Youâre just a regular human being walking among supermen
with god-like powers. The only thing you can possibly base your work on is your faith in
HU Commander: âI donât need someone with a name like yours telling me about faith. See, if
even one of you were to violate my rules, every other super in the world would be there to go
Archangel: âYeah⦠and theyâd do so after theyâre done scraping you off the wall.â
HU Commander about to leave her office, not paying attention to Archangel.
HU Commander (she looks irritated because he did have a point, but she tries her best to
downplay it): âLook, Iâm still here, while Energize â on the other hand â is still on the run.
Out of the two of us, who do you think is better off right now?â
As the HU Commander leaves, Archangel looks misplaced in this office â he realizes the
weight of his words and regrets having said them.
HU Commander (off-panel): âCome on, weâve got a problem to solve. The one you caused,
The HU Commander enters an interrogation room in which Alicia is sitting. The room looks
cold and sterile. Alicia is calm and detached, looking frail and misplaced. The HU
Commander tries to make her more comfortable by putting on a sympathetic, caring attitude.
HU Commander: âSorry to keep you waiting. I realize this isnât the most cheery of places.â
Alicia: âIt suits me just fine. Keeps me calm.â
Alicia (checks out the HU Commanderâs suit, which must seem VERY odd to her, whoâs
lived all her life out on a farm): ââ¦Are you an alien or something?â
Close-up: The HU Commander is a bit startled, taps the frame of her glasses.
HU Commander: âWhat⦠oh. Youâve never seen such sleek retro-futuristic glasses, right?â
Semi-close-up: Alicia points at the Commanderâs suit, a bit embarassed.
Alicia: âNo no⦠the suit.â
The Commander looks down on herself.
HU Commander: âOh.â
HU Commander : âOH. Oh please⦠Not you too.â
The Commander sits down next to her.
HU Commander: âSee, me and my team have got this whole floor to ourselves. Ten stories
above and ten more below you wonât find anything else than suits and ties. So⦠weâre a
laughing stock as it is, thank you very much.â
HU Commander (hints at the coffee machine): âCan I get you anything?â
Alicia: âYeah. My family. Whereâd you take them?â
HU Commander: âDonât worry, theyâre with the police. And in case no one told you⦠Iâm
not police. They never mind us helping them. But for some reason they mind us being
A questioning look from Alicia.
HU Commander: âWalk with me, okay? Iâm really not a fan of thisâ¦â
Alicia tries to get up, but stumbles and falls over.
HU Commander: ââ¦roomâ¦â
HU Commander: âAlicia!â
Bubble: ââ¦doctors donât know what to doâ¦â
Bubble: ââ¦never seen anything like itâ¦â
Bubble: âCan you hear me?ââ
Aliciaâs POV, sheâs lying in a hospital bed, the HU Commander sitting next to her.
HU Commander: âHow are you feeling?â
Alicia: âIâm⦠Iâm fineâ¦â
Alicia has a tube in her nose and another one in the vein of her right arm. Camera close to
Alicia: âThis wasnât⦠the *cough* first time⦠the first time God took me.â
HU Commander (sheâs seriously concerned): âFor⦠for how long has this been going on?â
Alicia: âFor about as long as I can remember. But itâs happening more frequently now.â
Alicia tries to get up, as much as the tubes allow her to. We are treated to a view of the
hospital room (so weâll instantly recognize it on page 9).
HU Commander: âHey! You shouldnâtâ¦â
Alicia: âIâm fine. HE will take care of me.â
Foreground: The HU Commanderâs fist hitting her desk. Background: A concerned
HU Commander: âDamn!â
HU Commander sitting behind her desk, looking somewhere between concerned and furious.
Archangel standing in front of her desk.
HU Commander: âI really hope she wasnât talking about the same God thatâs been taking care
of her these past 21 years!â
Archangel: âItâs some sort of disease?â
HU Commander: âLooks like a genetic one. Sheâs breaking down at a cellular level.â
HU Commander: âExactly.â
Archangel: âDidnât⦠uh, didnât someoneâs rogue gallery include a villain who had some sort
of a morphing weapon? Who could combine several people into one? What was his nameâ¦?â
HU Commander: âUm, what are you getting at?â
Archangel: âHow about we combine The Flea and Blitz and educate them in genetics? And
they could reconstruct her from the inside?â
HU Commander: âYouâre kidding, right? What we should do now is what we should have
done in the first place. Take her to the feds.â
Archangel in denial. HU Commander gets up and walks up to him.
HU Commander: âTheyâve got her files and theyâve got her father in custody who probably
did this to her by tampering with her genes. Because according to the agent whoâs been here
earlier, THATâs the offense heâs said to have committed, and thatâs why the feds brought him
in last night. Illegal genetic experiments with the kids at his farm.â
Archangel: âYeah, butâ¦â
HU Commander: âListen. Itâs not too late. And you donât want to make this any worse.â
Archangel: âI donâtâ¦â
HU Commander: âI know you canât stand the thought of her being tested at government
facilities, or being under close surveillance for the rest of her life. I know you donât want her
to live the life YOUâve been living. And make no mistake, I donât wanna see her caged as
well. But itâs a small price to pay at this point.â
Archangel: âOh, thatâs easy for you to say! YOUâRE not the one paying.â
She slaps him, furiously.
She walks out, grim and decisively.
Archangel looking grim but calm. He has made his choice.
Inside a federal prison: Archangel crashes through the ceiling, floating downward.
Archangel bending the bars of the cell which Aliciaâs father is being held captive in. Aliciaâs
father is afraid.
Archangel: âLetâs take a trip.â
Outside: Archangel crashes through the prisonâs brick wall, holding Aliciaâs father; flying
into the sky, Aliciaâs father dangling below.
HU Commander speaking into a cell phone, standing in front of the hospital bed we saw on
page 7. Itâs empty (but not tidy â as if someone just got up).
HU Commander: âRed alert.â
The HU Commander walking down a corridor in the UN building, her personnel trying to
catch up with her.
HU Commander: âCan we triangulate Archangelâs position?â
HU staff #1: âRoughly. Heâs still in the city. Downtown Manhattan.â
HU Commander: âWhich of our A- and B-list members are on stand-by in the vicinity?â
HU staff #2 (looking at a sort of Blackberry device): âUmâ¦â
This page shows our team of heroes getting the call to action: Quantum. The Blonde Marvel.
The Impractical Mr Imp.
A warehouse storage area, populated by mannequins/fashion dolls. Some mirrors leaned
against the wall, packing materials on the floor. Windows on one side, we can see itâs not too
high up, judging from the shiny polished shop windows of downtown NY - maybe 4th or 5th
floor. Two chairs facing each other in the middle of the room. Aliciaâs father sitting on one,
Alicia standing behind the other, Archangel standing next to her.
Archangel: âPlease, take a seat.â
Aliciaâs clearly very uncomfortable, but sitting down. Archangel glaring at her father.
Alicia: âPlease, you donâtâ¦â
Archangel (asking Aliciaâs father): âAnything youâd like to sayâ¦?â
Alicia: âFather, Iâ¦â
Her fatherâs got a mean attitude.
Aliciaâs father: âSilence, child.â
Archangel slaps Aliciaâs father. Archangel is clearly restraining himself, but heâd very much
like to hit harder.
Aliciaâs father loses his composure and looks exhausted, with a slight nosebleed. Archangel
shouts at him.
Archangel: âYOU JUST ANSWER OUR QUESTIONS!â
Alicia looks as if she felt the hit herself.
Flashback (Aliciaâs memory). Colored completely in hues of red and black. Aliciaâs father is
holding a bloody knife. Heâs furious, glaring.
Aliciaâs father: âThis is what happens when you allow your anger to cloud your mind!â
Archangel notices Aliciaâs painful expression and is very, very sorry.
Archangel: âIs, uh⦠is that clearâ¦?â
Flashback (Aliciaâs memory). Colored completely in hues of red and black. Alicia is cowering
next to her mother in a kitchen. They wear old-fashioned dresses. Alicia shows bruises and a
bit of blood, while her mothers dress is clearly much more bloody. This shot is all about
hinting at her motherâs wounds, please donât show any directly.
Aliciaâs father (off-panel): âThe only love be Godâs love! The only wrath be Godâs wrath!â
Close-up on Aliciaâs eyes. Sheâs only seeing her memories. Her eyes wide open, her
expression distorted by anger and disgust.
Aliciaâs father (off-panel): âM-myâ¦â
Aliciaâs father is fixating her with his all-penetrating gaze. Archangel is captivated, seeing
something horrifying while looking at Alicia (Alicia being off-panel) â we canât see what it is,
but heâs cearly surprised and frozen in terror.
Aliciaâs father: âM-my childâ¦â
We see a glimpse of Aliciaâs transformation â close-up on her face which is still human,
showing the pain sheâs going through, but parts of her arm and her hand (held up to her face)
are Furyâs (see character design sheet).
Archangel watches in horror, Aliciaâs father beside him (the latter is more frustrated than
horrified, given he has seen this quite a few times).
Aliciaâs father: âAlicia, listen to me⦠the only wrath beâ¦â
Quantum zooms through the storage roomâs entrance, unhinging the door. Heâs just a blur,
going for Alicia.
Quantum grabs Alicia and smashes through the window, taking her outside. What little we
can see of her is clearly not human anymore.
Archangel standing at the smashed window, Aliciaâs father behind him.
Aliciaâs father: âYou fool! Look what youâve done!â
Archangel: âWhat Iâve done? Coming from some yokel who went all Frankenstein on her!â
Aliciaâs father: âI was trying to save her, you idiot! That thing is in her blood, itâs her genetic
heritage! I was working on a cure!â
Archangel is embarrassed, realizing that itâs all his fault. Heâs floating outside, in front of the
smashed window now.
Archangel: ââ¦I⦠Iâ¦â
Archangel: âIâm going to make things right again. I promise.â
Same as 14-1, but now the Blonde Marvel is entering the panel, floating.
The Blonde Marvel: âNo you wonât. The Commander wants a word with you.â
Archangel creates a forcefield stretching out his fists, which looks like a moebius strip (see
character sheet). It hits the Blonde Marvel like a punch in the gut, knocking the wind out of
her and sending her flyingâ¦
Archangel: âI donât have time for this!â
The Blonde Marvel hits the wall of the opposite building. Archangel exits the panel, following
Alicia and Quantum.
The Blonde Marvel picks herself up.
The Blonde Marvel: â⦠the hard way then.â
This whole page is basically one image of Quantum and Alicia crashing (vertically/diagonally
over several floors) through a building, broken down into four or five panels, with the
individual panels tracking their movement. Each panel shows more destruction than the
previous (have fun with lots and lots of debris), and in the final panel Alicia should have
completed her transformation into Fury (the first panel starting with a half-transformed
Page 16 & 17:
These pages depict how fighting between Quantum and Fury starts, and how Mr Imp joins the
Downtown NY, a shopping district. It's around noon, sunny. Fury is on a rampage,
causing massive destruction. This will be the first time we see Fury from head to toe, so make
sure to give him/her/it a dramatic entrance. Quantum tries to punch Fury, but Fury gets at him
first and sends Quantum flying into a big advertisement on a building top... the ad turns out to
be the shape-shifting Mr Imp (note: anything Mr Imp morphs into still has his trademark grin
and eyes on it), catching Quantum.
(note to the artist: divide this into as many panels as you see fit)
Downtown NY. Fury is occupied with doing as much damage to the area as possible.
Quantum and Mr Imp are about to resume their attack on Fury, but Archangel flies in and
intervenes, trying to hold them back.
Archangel: âWait, just⦠give me a chance to calm her down.â
Mr Imp raises a brow: âHer? That thingâs a she?â
Quantum: âCanât answering that question wait until weâve knocked it out? Or her?â
Archangel: âFighting her wonât do. We should rather try and change her back somehow.â
Quantum: âWell, somehowâs not enough. Youâve got to give me something to work with.â
Mr Imp: âYeah, like⦠(-> insert quip about how to best calm her down here. Iâm really not
good at quips). Just an idea.â
Archangel: âShe knows me, okay? Just let me talk to her.â
Archangel walks up to Fury, leaving Quantum and Mr Imp behind. The latter two, especially
Quantum, are itching to intervene. Fury isnât paying any attention to the three, still occupied
with demolishing the area.
Archangel is talking to Furyâs back, while Fury is mashing things up. Archangel is looking
small compared to Fury (whoâs about 3-4 metres (9-13 ft) tall at this point).
Archangel: âUh, Alicia? You in there?â
The Blonde Marvel passes by Quantum and Mr Imp, running or flying. Sheâs pissed off and
about to punch Archangel (whoâs off-panel). Quantumâs taken by surprise, Mr Imp is
changing one arm into a sort of lasso.
The Blonde Marvel: âRrrrahh!â
Mr Imp holds The Blonde Marvel back with his lasso-arm. Quantum holds Mr Imp, whoâd
otherwise succumb to The Blonde Marvelâs momentum and be dragged along. Mr Imp gets
stretched in the process.
Mr Imp: âWait! Let him try his shtick!â
The Blonde Marvel is not happy about being held back, but gives in and joins Quantum & Mr
Imp in watching Archangelâs efforts from the sidelines.
Quantum: âWe can still apprehend him after heâs done with that thing. Or after that thingâs
done with him. Either way, itâs a win-win-situation, really!â
The Blonde Marvel (to Quantum): âYou know, youâre sounding just like my bank counselor.â
Mr Imp: âOooh. Thatâs gotta hurt.â (This line should be ambiguous, could be directed at Fury
punching Archangel (off- or on-panel, what you like best) or The Blonde Marvel comparing
Quantum to bank counselors. If possible, please reflect this ambiguity visually.)
Archangel has Furyâs attention, but heâs just a nuisance to her: Fury slaps him like someone
who would try to get rid of a flea. Archangel grits his teeth and continues trying to talk sense
Archangel: âDonât you see? Youâre just giving them more reasons to lock you up for the rest
of your life!â
Profile shot of Archangelâs head, shouting desperately at Fury (off-panel)
Archangel: âAlicia! Listen to me!â
Same âcamera positionâ as previous panel, but now itâs a close-up of Furyâs fist, having
punched Archangel out of the panel.
Mr Imp, Quantum and The Blonde Marvel look up, their eyes tracking Archangel whoâs sent
flying from Furyâs punch.
Mr Imp: âIs it a bird? Is it a plane?â
Quantum: âOkay, he had his chance.â
The Blonde Marvel: âIâll take care of him, you go after that thing.â
Mr Imp: âRoger roger.â
(21-1 & 21-2)
Archangel is sent flying high up into the air. He comes to a halt between the upper floors of
surrounding business buildings (large glass windows). Heâs nursing an aching jaw.
Archangel: âOuch. Should have kept my force field up.â
The Blonde Marvel joins him, eager to return the punch Archangel landed earlier.
The Blonde Marvel: âCare for another round?â
The Blonde Marvel punches Archangel.
Birdâs eye view of Quantum and Mr Imp fighting Fury, no holds barred.
Archangel shouts at Blonde Marvel. Heâs frustrated. Theyâre still floating between buildings,
high up in the air.
âDonât you see? Theyâre just making her madder! Making her stronger!â
Mr Imp and Quantum are fighting a growing Fury (about 4 metres tall now). Furyâs rocky
skin is cracking, lava spilling from it. Quantum and Mr Imp also have to fight the intense
Mr Imp: âIs it just me, or is this thing growing?â
Same âcamera positionâ as panel 1, now Archangel is practically begging.
Archangel: âPlease, just let me talk to herâ¦â
The Blonde Marvel punches Archangel again.
The Blonde Marvel: âThe two of you will have a lot of time to talk in that cell youâll be
1st flashback panel. This should look dream-like, hazy (- personally, Iâve found a dream-like
atmosphere to be communicated by using a combination of extreme clarity in the foreground
and haziness in the near distance. Thatâs what Iâm envisioning here). A young archangel
(between 10 and 12 years old) is restrained in a strange, surreal sci-fi sort of medical
apparatus. Shadowy silhouettes of doctors are visible in the background, conducting the
computer tomography on him. Their discussion is subdued, signified by there being no arrows
on their speech bubbles.
Doctor 1: ââ¦extraordinary telekinetic abilitiesâ¦â
Doctor 2: ââ¦force fieldsâ¦â
Doctor 3: ââ¦never seen anything like itâ¦â
Doctor 4: ââ¦effortlessly bending space-time around himâ¦â
Back to the present: Archangel is on the ropes, tired of Blonde Marvelâs assaults, seriously
considering to punch her back. Heâs literally seeing the images I indicated as flashback panels
(23-1, 23-3 & 23-5).
2nd flashback panel. A young archangel sitting on his bedside, slightly older than in the
previous flashback panel (maybe 14 to 16?). Heâs sad. A sterile environment, desperately
enhanced by posters on the walls signifying his yearning for the outside world (these might be
pop-cultural posters as well as intriguing landscapes). One of the doctors from panel 1 (we
donât need to identify him, to Archangel heâs a faceless drone anyway) is standing next to
him, making some notes on a small electronic pad.
Doctor: âThe concert? Oh no, we still need to run a lot more tests before we can safely let you
go outside again.â
Archangel releases his anger and punches The Blonde Marvel. Itâs a mighty punch.
The Blonde Marvel: âOoof!â
3rd flashback panel. This is a homage to the famous scene in Katsuhiro Otomoâs movie Akira,
in which a hospital-bound Tetsuo crushes a group of security men on the walls around him by
subconsciously erecting a sphere-shaped force field. The force-fieldâs shape can only be
inferred from the damage to the walls around him. This panel right here shows Archangel
doing the same, with the difference being that the security men are the doctors we previously
saw, and that the whole scene isnât that bloody. They may just be unconscious, we do not
need to know. Whatâs important is that Archangel is walking away from the âcameraâ toward
a door with an exit sign, the sphere-shaped damage to the hospital corridor having been done
in the foreground.
Archangel is âpowering upâ (this doesnât need to look like more than extreme concentration
on his part), The Blonde Marvel is about to land another punch.
Large panel, zooming out from the previous: Archangel releases a sphere-shaped force field
as described on the previous page, panel 5. The Blonde Marvel is thrown backwards, the
buildings around them crumble, showing the sphere-shaped damage, with the center of the
sphere being Archangel.
The Blonde Marvel: âAaahââ
Mr Imp looks up, terrified. Heâs in the foreground, in the background Quantum is getting
knocked out by Fury.
Mr Imp: âOh my God, did you seeââ
Same âcamera positionâ as previous panel, now Mr Imp gets the reward for his being
distracted: heâs also punched & k.o.âd by Fury. In the near background, the Blonde Marvel is
falling to the ground.
Large panel. Fury is standing at the center of the devastation he caused. Traces of lava are
everywhere. Mr Imp, Quantum and The Blonde Marvel are out cold. Fury is gigantic (ca. 5-6
metres (16-20 ft) tall) and, well, furious.
A UN chopper is flying over Furyâs head. Fury turns her head to look at it. She recognizes
Archangel is high up in the air, looks down, sees the chopper. His face/posture is expressing a
mixture of regret (he never intended to cause as much damage as he did) and cluelessness
(who might that be in the chopper?).
The chopper lands in the middle of the streets, amid the ruins of Furyâs path. The first one to
get off the chopper is Aliciaâs father, with the HU Commander following.
Fury is spellbound and calm, a spark of recognition in her eyes.
Close-up on Aliciaâs father. Heâs austere, but not mean.
Aliciaâs father: âThe only love be Godâs love.â
Aliciaâs father walks up to Fury, stretching out his hand, while keeping a certain distance to
avoid the heat emanating from Fury. While he remains austere, thereâs also a kindness in his
Aliciaâs father: âThe only wrath be Godâs wrath.â
Aliciaâs father: âRemember Mom.â
(27-3 â 27-X)
Flashback: This goes back to the flashbacks from page 12, please make sure readers would
recognize this. We now see that in fact it was a partially transformed Alicia who had
unintentionally inflicted hurt on her mother. Her father only took the knife to protect his wife
and himself. All of this has to be communicated visually in a clear way. You can use as many
panels as you see fit.
Fury shrinks and changes back.
Alicia faints in the arms of her father.
Aliciaâs father takes her aboard the chopper. The HU Commander is helping him.
Aliciaâs father: âThese are code words I used as a hypnotic code, inducing calmness. Iâve
been training her to respond to these since her early childhood.â
HU Commander: âIn case of incidents like this.â
Aliciaâs father: ââ¦yes.â
Archangel floats to the ground, carefully approaching the chopper. Alicia and her father are
inside, the HU Commander glares at Archangel with restrained anger.
Archangel: âCommander, Iâ¦â
Close up on Archangelâs hands. They are being bent behind his back by The Blonde Marvelâs
hands and cuffed. He puts up no resistance.
FX (cuffs): Click
Archangel is standing close to the âcameraâ, his surprised face towards the reader. The
Blonde Marvel behind him, cuffing him. Behind The Blonde Marvel: Mr Imp & Quantum,
dusting themselves off. The three heroes behind Archangel are looking at him angrily.
The Blonde Marvel: âNot another word.â
Close-up on Bombshell in civilian/office outfit (see reference).
Bombshell: âHandcuffs? Seriously?â
Zoom out to reveal her sitting in the HU Commanderâs office, opposite the Commander. Itâs
evening, the sun is setting. Thereâs not much room in her office, but try to find a nice spot for
them to sit and talk. The Commander may be sitting behind her desk, having just completed
some paper work. Although Iâd envision she would show more respect to her colleague and
not have her desk separate them. Your choice.
HU Commander: âSure, they donât mean anything to a super of his potential. But they mean a
lot in the public eye. Plus, theyâre sending a signal to the federal agencies. At this stage itâs all
about sending signals. Commanding an army of supers, I realized pretty early on that if there
were any battles left personally for me to fight, theyâd be symbolic battles.â
HU Commander: âCoffee?â
Bombshell: âUh, you got some hot chocolate?â
The Commander gets up to get some coffee. She opens the largest closet in her office (see
reference), revealing a coffee machine and a small sink. She takes out two cups.
HU Commander: âYeah, no prob. Just another button on the machine, really.â
Bombshell: âAh. Visit me in my office some time and Iâll pour you some real hot chocolate.â
Bombshell: âSo⦠how did he take it?â
The HU Commander has the machine pour coffee and hot chocolate into the cups.
HU Commander: âGabriel? Oh, he did come in quietly. He only threatened to kill me when
we were alone later on, in the holding cell.â
Bombshell: âHe did?â
HU Commander: âHe said, and those were his words: I could kill you with but a thought.â
The Commander sits back down, handing Bombshell one of the two hot cups.
Bombshell: âThatâs not a threat. Thatâs just his wounded self esteem speaking.â
HU Commander: âYeah⦠I know. Iâve received a lot more credible death threats in my
career. Still, he was speaking the truth.â
HU Commander & Bombshell sipping their drinks, talking.
Bombshell: âAnd thatâs why it wasnât a threat. See, if I told you that I could kill you in a jiffy,
well, that wouldnât be a threat, it would be my applying for a job.â
HU Commander: âA job? You mean, you think he didnât want to leave?â
Bombshell: âOh abso-friggin-lutely.â
HU Commander & Bombshell sipping their drinks, talking.
HU Commander: âStupid question, I know. Well, thereâs no way in hell he could stay, after
what heâs done. And after what Iâve done⦠after protecting him for so long. I just wish⦠I
just wish heâd have grown up under different circumstances.â
Bombshell: âYeah, well, federal testing facilities arenât the best place to spend your
childhood. But HUâs not a daycare center either. The girlâs staying with the government?â
HU Commander: âYup. So Gabrielâs return to the feds wonât be quite as humiliating to him.â
HU Commander & Bombshell sipping their drinks, talking.
Bombshell: âYou mean he can watch out for her. Help her come to terms with what she is.â
HU Commander: âI think sheâs come to terms with that years ago. Her father did a pretty
good job after all. I think Gabrielâs rather helping her come to terms with being government
property from now on. Still, I canât help but regret losing a soldier.â
Bombshell: âOh, donât give me that hard-boiled crap.â (smirks)
The HU Commander smirks back.
HU Commander: âHeh.â
HU Commander & Bombshell are finishing their drinks. The HU Commander is back to
being serious, she seems a bit absent⦠thereâs something at the edge of her mind, unsettling
HU Commander: âNo, really. I feel thereâs something brewing. We need everyone.â
Bombshell: âWhat, you got new intel on the mind-device case? Or that guy bombing
embassies, calls himself Change?â
HU Commander: âNah, none of that. Just a feeling I got, sâall.â
Bombshell leaves the Commanderâs office, making a âbyeâ sort of posture.
Bombshell: âWell, good thing about feelings is⦠theyâre much easier to change than what
The Commander is left to her own devices, looking out the window, letting her mind wander.
