While on the run from the Cinnamon City authorities, robotic girl Sunhra meets her match at the outskirts of the information highway: a young man with the ability to bend machinery to his will...

Warning: Mature content abounds (nudity, mature themes & language)

There's a sketchbook too.

You have a pretty cool thing going on here. First, is the title spelling, always catching. The linear is good. The greyscaling is a little off I think. You use the same value almost throughout the entire page. If an object overlaps another, instead of it being black, it's the same shade of grey separated by a black line, and sometimes that line is broken. The highlight grey doesn't really help either. The font reads sort of weird, but that could just be my monitor.

Anywho, I think you have a very fine comic here and the best part is that you have many (but not too many) panels per page and that really helps the story and let us feel that we're moving along.

Thanks a lot for the compliments and your constructive criticism. I'll take the latter into consideration.

What concerns greyscaling: If I understood your argument correctly it's that different objects have differently dark shadows, and I'm not considering these differences (because there's only one value of grey), right? I don't quite understand what you mean by objects overlapping each other, and that they should be black; do you mean that their shadow on top of each other should be black? I'm pretty certain that I misconstrued your argument, since I don't see why shadows should always be black.

Apart from that, using one value of grey helps keeping the comic on time; if I were to use different values for different shadows I probably wouldn't be much faster than if I were actually colouring the whole page. In my opinion, cel shading using mainly one grey value is not that unusual. Of couse I'm still far from perfect, meaning there are pages where I'm not satisfied with the greyscaling, but mainly because I'm still struggling with the process.

Just to clarify, it's not an argument at all by me, just an observation/opinion.

But yeah, the one value shadow is a tad distracting. Take chapter 1 page 11, the hair and shoulder of the figure is the same, though they most certainly should not be the same value. Why? Because it runs together, even with a broad stroke. What could help in that instance is putting a highlight between the two. I digress. When I look at it, my mind stumbles and says, 'what's going on, why is the same value being used.' It's fine art to be sure, but for me, it's another step to break it down. And its not EVERYWHERE, but enough for it to distract ME.

But it's a criticism, not a mandate. If a few values of grey is what you want, I'm not the one to say otherwise.

You brought up cel shading, and for the most part, there are usually 2-3 colors used....a base, a shadow and a highlight, but that's also for color. Cel style greyscaling usually uses up to 8 different values.

To use the image that you posted in this thread, I think is an example of your process working and I think its because the foreshortened elements do not have overlapping tones. They're broken up by a highlight or a darker shadow.

Thanks, now I see what you mean. I agree on your point concerning pg.11, and I'll consider this on future pages, maybe go back and redo these things.

Your comment's been helpful because in all honesty I haven't paid pay much attention this aspect of greyscaling. Much appreciated!

Nice energetic lines! And it's interesting how you've worked so much variety into the story. In terms of the art, Chapter 1, page 7, and Chapter 3, Prologue 2, and Chapter 4, page 7 are my favorite pages: those seemed to me to have the best use of heavy black areas to define volume and space across the page.

Great dynamic, detailed art style. Didn't get through all of it but I can't wait to get caught up with the rest of the series.
