So what's Misfire Reactional? Glad you asked.

At its core, it's a first-contact-with-aliens story. An any-sufficiently-advanced-techology-will-appear-as-magic story. A story of a misguided attempt to understand an entire race through the artifacts of its popular culture.

A manga-style parody? Indeed. A metafictional commentary? You bet. An original story? I'd like to think so. I'd like to think I've put these elements together in a way that does something new... yet familiar. Can you see why I've been hesitant to talk about this?

Here's some specifics:

The prince of space has been dethroned. His realm, a galaxy hurtling across dimensions, is now ruled by a relentless conquerer, a destroyer of worlds. Desperate to regain his rightful place, the prince escapes to the Earth with a source of great energy. He seeks aid for himself, and to protect this planet that has entered his empire's crosshairs. The Earth becomes a battleground. One by one, human guardians rise to fight the increasingly numerous, insidious alien forces. One by one, the prince gathers allies to mount a counterattack on his homeland. Human and alien alike struggle to understand each other, but their only common ground is this: the logic of causality, the fascination of storytelling, and the capacity for abstract thought.

Their enemies are invisible. Their weapons, intangible. Their story, unbelievable. The Earth will be forever changed.
