Philly was reviewed over at Ain't It Cool News this week (which is awesome for San Diego next week - come see us at the Evolution Studios table) and here's what reviewer Ambush Bug had to say:
Upon first glance, one may dismiss this book as another indie super hero yarn with knock-off heroes that resemble popular icons. But after reading PHILLY #1, I realized that the heroes aren't necessarily the stars of this book, it's the town and the dichotomy between cop and vigilante that take center stage. The story does a good job of highlighting the differences in procedures the two groups of lawmen go through to solve crimes, depicting the good and the not so good ways that both parties do their jobs. The art is vivid and told in broad strokes, adding another layer of complexity to this book. PHILLY isn't your typical super hero retread even though it tries to fool you into thinking it is. It's a book that pulls the rug out from under you and shows that there is much more below the surface going on than just spandex and slugfests.
