Zuriaa McFarland is a shepherdess...sort of....possibly. Actually, her father wants her to be a shepherdess so that she could run the farm if and when he retires. Zuriaa, herself, wants to become a great Wiccan like her grandmother once was. Problem? Her father doesn't want Zuriaa having anything to do with magic, but he's unable to stop her due to a thing called "power build-up" that would ultimately kill her. Even so, her father won't let her leave the village unless it's to see her grandmother in Darga Port. Being stuck in a village on an island is maddening, mad only worse by the inhabitants. Zuriaa wants nothing more than to escape somehow.

Prince Victor "Thor" Lacusae of Lacusae Kingdom is trying to keep peace in his kingdom while his father, King Roderick, is slowly dying of an unknown ailment. His stepmother Prisca is supposedly caring for the dying King, but Thor holds his doubts. When he discovers that his father is going to throw a ball instead of holding a meeting between neighboring kingdoms, Thor tries his best to have the meeting happen instead. Only to fail because his stepmother had manipulated his father. Now Thor can only stand by as he watches his stepmother have her way, for now.
