Linky:

The Princess and the Giant is a little fairy tale fantasy--I mean with castles and knights and monsters and all that. I want it to be a fun--perhaps even whimsical--adventure, as well as a story about two friends from very different worlds.

Going along with the fun/whimsical aspect, the art is a bit looser than my usual, and I'd like it to feel fluid and a bit unpredictable, but still very readable.

The story will continue page to page in single panels, without words. I suppose the real question is, can I keep a story going in single, irregularly updated panels, with no words at all? It means that each panel will have to have a lot of visual impact, and will have to be very clear in what it's trying to convey, from broad motions down to small details of scene and expression.

Only three pages including the title page so far, but I'd love to hear whether or not you think this wacky idea is working in any way, and why or why not.

Thanks!

I think it might be a bit of a challenge, but if you REALLY want to do it, it's possible. You'll just have to rely more on facial expression, body language, and such for the reader to know what's being "said." Like the silent films. :)

That's an excellent point. It will help that the princess and the giant, when he appears, will tend to have a non-verbal relationship (at first they probably won't talk because they'll be uneasy with each other, then if they get to liking each other, it'll just be one of those relationships where you can hang out without talking : ).

I did find that in the latest page (page 4 ), I ended up drawing the princess in a much more realistic style than on the previous page, because this time she needed to express a more complex feeling--growing concern, but not fear--and I couldn't seem to get that to come across on a more cartoony face.

I have to say I like how you've done the art in this one. The black and white coloring to me at least seems to give it a more serious tone.

are you going to have any dialogue or will it be as RenHawk suggested and like a silent film type?

Definitely planning on keeping it silent!

Since that's the case, you'll have a lot of work to do but it should be really interesting.

Thanks guys! And yeah, WhizKid, part of my goal for this is to make it so that each page can stand on its own just as a picture--and then if you view them in sequence, you find that they're part of a story, as a nice bonus. :)

The Princess turns 19--nineteen pages, that is! If you haven't been reading it, you've already missed a dark forest kidnapping and a high seas adventure! But this is a good time to start, as she's about to land on an exotic foreign shore.

Tiny versions of a couple recent pages:

The Princess and the Giant is up to 30 pages now, so here are a couple more tiny previews of recent pages! And the Giant did show up in these last 10 pages, too!

The Princess is over 40 pages now, oh and in recent weeks she got a new outfit, although not one of her own choosing! Here's a clickable link/preview for the latest page, 41:

I haven't had a chance to look through everything yet, but that art is KILLER. Keep up the amazing work!

I've been keepin' it up, hopefully, in fact today's page 52 means 52 weeks means the Princess is 1 year old! :D

The birthday edition turned out to be a special super-deluxe (for me :P) full gray-scale page. You can get to it by clicking this handy-dandy icon:
