I feel like I keep saying this on all the different comments I make here... but you really ought to do something about your fonts.

The words are part of the comic itself, need to have an artful presentation to them that matches the artistic theme of a comic. Just as you wouldn't use a goofy angular font in bright red for a serious black-and-white manga or a font that immitates a girl's handwriting for something with lots of gore, death, and destruction, you've got to match type-for-type and style-for-style.

Your speech bubbles are ok - not fantastic, but not bad either, and you've obviously put a fair amount of effort into them... but the fonts are really lacking. I'm guessing that's a Comic Sans, possibly bolded... now, I'm not one of those people who automatically hate on Comic Sans, but I also don't think that it's really suited for a sprite comic. You need something crisper and more angular.

Another issue is the Leading (that's Lead as in the metal, not Lead as in opposite-of-Follow) and alignment for the font/program that you're using.

Leading determines the amount of vertical space between lines. By adjusting the Leading, you can tighten up or loosen the amount of space and control how much space each line takes up. For instance:

Right now, a lot of

the text in your bubbles

looks sort of like this.

Ideally, you don't want that. It takes up almost double the space it requires, forcing you to use smaller fonts or bigger word bubbles to keep up. It also looks ugly.

The other half of the typography issue you have is alignment. Allignment settings is whether the letters stick to the left, right, middle, or are justified. English is normally "flush left" - that is to say, as it's doing right now in these forums, all the letters stick to the left side of the space they're in. The right side has uneven, "jagged" edges because of this.

While that's fine for most of the internet, school reports, etc, most comics use "centered" text, meaning that if you have two lines, the centers of each line up. The exception would be if you've got an automated voice (like a robot, a security system, etc) that would speak an an artificial manner - a lot of those times they use flush left and square boxes instead of rounded ones to denote the inhuman characteristics.

Of course, the big problem is that if you're using MS Paint, your options are limited. MS Paint can't control Leading or Alignment (at least most versions can't - I think Windows 7's MS Paint may have stepped up it's game a little bit.) You can manually re-align words by using spaces:

That would be
sort of like this
assuming these forums
display spaces right.

But it's kind of a pain in the ass. Also, as I said, you can't do anythign to adjust the Leading on MS Paint. So the way I see it, you've got a couple of different options;

* You could shop around for a different font that's more thematically appropriate for your comic and has a better built-in Leading ratio, then manually adjust alignment... or...

* You could look for a better program. I've heard a lot of good things about GIMP - it's free, it's fairly simple, and it looks good. I personally use Paint Shop Pro, but I use an old version (PSP9) because the last few versions suck... this however does cost (though nowhere near as bad as Photoshop does).

* You could just ignore me.
