Started posting my new comic "The Devon Legacy".
Description:
Your favorite, overused, futuristic, post war scenario is back. This will be a six issue opener to set some things up for my main story arc before this Devon person is even introduced. So for now enjoy some aliens trying to kick each others butts.

Feel free to critique, if you prefer critiquing stories or character development feel free to wait till their are more pages if you prefer. I warn you, I don't really care for drawing backgrounds and such. I prefer drawing the characters so I hope that doesn't translate TOO much in these.

Since I'm insane and working on 2 books at the same time I made 2 sections for them. Though "Da Bomb" is actually almost finished on my comp, I need to catch up on the other story to keep them "published together".

The coloring is great! Now for the stuff I don't like:

The page is too wide, especially for online. Try reducing to 650 px wide. Nobody likes horizontal scrolling.

You need thicker lines in some places. Like the outlining of the bodies and things like that. It looks too flat, even with the nice coloring.

Speaking of coloring, there is sooo much more you can do with those effects in Photoshop. Try putting the effects in a separate layer and choose "Layer properties". I think you'll find it cool.

The font is too small. Use more of the text box for the reader's sake!

Thank you very much. This is my 1st time making a digital comic. And all my paper comics were done very fast since they were just something I liked to do. I tried harder on these since I wanted to show them.

People still use 800X600 res? :P I'll see how they will look reduced that much, I don't want to lose too much.

I was wondering, I still have a habit of drawing kinda small and thicker lines were in the way. I am getting better at not leaving so much empty space around the characters now, I'll start trying to add a thicker border around the images. Also, I don't spend too much time on this since I wantto get fast enough to release a page a day. I'll still try harder though :)

EDIT:Ah, just thought of an easy fix. I can copy the layer, make a black silhouette, and slightly enlarge it to make the outlines of the body thicker./Edit

Every effect is in it's on layer. I've been playing with the different layer properties as well as downloading many PS tutorials. I used PaintShop for many years and just recently switched, so I havn't fully tapped what I can do yet.
In other words, I did what you said, I just suck at the moment with deciding what to add and test :P Hopefully my work will improve.

I'm always afraid I'll cover up too much of the picture with bigger balloons. I'll up the text size and just have to learn better word balloon/image positioning.

Again thank you very much for your critiquing! :D I have a lot to learn and it really surprises me that people say my coloring is good cause coloring and Backgrounds are 2 things I generally rush as I don't really like doing those parts.

Most of Da Bomb is already inked out and colored so many problems you stated may be present in them. (That's the issue with the girls) I'll try to go back and do some tweaking however.

Things I addressed from the feedback given. Bolder outline of characters, larger text, hopefully better PhotoShop FX, and new smaller res 650 px wide. Darn you low res display users >:P

I guess I'll keep the low res ones here and put an option for hi res and low res when my site gets up.

Da Bomb page 3 uploaded. Technically the page was made a couple months ago. I had to finish shading, and tweak the font sizes and outlines as suggested in the feedback.

I think now would be a safe time to start checking out The Devon Legacy. 13 pages are up and I have 16 finished now. So it is half way done.
I havn't been updating the other side since the whole dual sided issue thing doesn't translate online well =P Live and learn.

And if you have suggestions or whatnot feel free to let me know. You can give me scores of less than 5 too. I won't delete your comments or go attack your books :P

Anyway I hope you enjoy the comic. These aliens can be more than a pain to draw over and over again at times.

I know it may be hard to relate to the aliens and it is a lot of flash, but it was supposed to compensate for the much more boring "other issue" that has more relatable characters and character development going on.

Explosions in a comic is always good. Keep up the good work.
