Hi, I'm Allen and I've heard about DD for a while but never moseyed(sp?) over here!
My comic's name is Due East and you and you can check it out at http://www.drunkduck.com/Due_East/
It's kind of an interesting mix of slice-of-life meets comedy meets spiritual about a multiracial (Asian/Black/White) family.
In Book One, we get to meet the main characters:
Sapphira Hu: 20-year old tri-racial daughter (Asian/Black/White) of Douglas Hu and Crystal Mills. Artistic, mellow, has considerable inner strength but has also been terribly lonely since the move back to her former hometown with her father. She's been unable to connect with her sister or her old friends and has put on weight during her unintentional isolation.
Brielle Mills: 16-year old tri-racial (Asian/Black/White) daughter of Douglas Hu and Crystal Mills. Spunky, highly independent, strong-willed and very intelligent, Brielle was very emotionally scarred by her parents divorce and her sister's choice to leave the U.S. with their father. She placed all blame on her father, to the point that she no longer considered him her father. Instead, she bonded more closely with her mother and patterned herself after her mother's strengths and accomplishments. Now that her father and sister are back, she doesn't yet know how to adjust to their presence in her life again. In addition, she faces a life-and-death situation that will change her forever.
Carolyn Maye: 16-year old biracial (Hispanic/White) best friend of Brielle Mills. She is a nondenominational Christian who cares deeply for Brielle's soul. Brielle once helped Carolyn through a family tragedy and when Brielle goes through a near-death experience, Carolyn is there for her friend.
Douglas Hu: 37-year old biracial (Asian/White) father of Sapphira Hu and Brielle Mills. Formerly married to Crystal Mills. Doug is a software trainer for a major firm. He took an opportunity for advancement of taking over training at the firm's Canadian branch, with the understanding that he and his family would relocate to Canada. Doug's wife, Crystal, was vehemently opposed to the move. With the deadline for his decision approaching, Doug chose to move and his oldest daughter, Sapphira, believed he was right and came along to support him. Crystal filed for divorce and their youngest daughter, Brielle, remained with her mother.
Crystal Mills: 39-year old African-American mother of Sapphira Hu and Brielle Mills. Crystal is loving, fiercely independent, protective of her family and is co-owner of her own business. After the divorce, she stayed in touch with Doug to be kept up to date concerning Sapphira. As time passed, she and Doug got over their bitterness and fell in love again. Eventually, she and Doug decided to reconcile and for Doug to return to Austin and Sapphira decided to accompany her father back.
Book Two deals with the aftermath of Brielle's near-death experience and lets us learn more about the main characters. We also introduce some new characters, like Carolyn's dad, Nathan (who is also a Christian); Crystal's co-worker and co-business owner, Jess Abel; and Sapphira's old friend, Lindsay Steury.
Now we're scripting Book Three, so there's lots to look forward to! And I'm looking forward to your critiques and other feedback. Thanks for reading this.
Best Wishes,
Allen
