Okay...I wanted to get a substantial amount of pages up before I had critiques done. I think 32 is good!

Antcomics was started just for fun, to appeal to fans of the 80s group, Adam & the Ants. I was thinking that this comic would appeal only to people who were fans of the band; but as I began posting them here, and at the regular website, http://antcomics.tripod.com , I found that they appealed to people who had never even heard of them! So hey--I thought that was a good sign.

Anyhow, I am open to criticism on my comic, so please--beat my guest (haha).

My influences are Bill Watterson, Mark Crilley, Donna Barr, Rick Geary, and Berke Breathed. I think that is sort of apparent in my stuff.

I can't remember how I first came across Antcomics, I think you'd been kind enough to comment on one of my strips, so I thought I'd return the favour.

Then I got hooked! ;)

Antcomics has such a feel-good...... er..... feel to it! I love the artwork, especially the characters' faces -- they always make me laugh and smile, they're so lovable and emotive! You also always manage to capture the action of the storyline perfectly, something I always have great difficulty in achieving, and I respect you for that (as we all should know, Adam was a very active person)!

The stories themselves are always great fun -- easily digestible yet memorable. One of my favourites is 'Octopus Arms', when Merrick almost gets the chance to be the band's sole drummer..... ALMOST.

I know of Adam and the Ants, but I was never a fan. Not because I dislike them, but simply because I missed them first time round, and I've never had anything to push me toward their music. But you never know, Antcomics might do just that. I'm very fickle -- a 5-second TV advert for Depeche Mode made me go out and buy their most recent Best Of collection, so maybe I'll give the Ants a go next time I'm in HMV with a few spare quid! (By the way, Depeche Mode are ace!)

OK, hackneyed phrase time...... are you ready? because this one's a beauty....... OK, OK, here......... we......... go.........

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

The job's a good 'un! :)

In my book the abbreviation crit, stands for one of two things; 1 criticize, 2 critique. Now the first one I can not do!!! Criticize means: disapprove of, carp, condemn, pass judgment on… and I find absolutely nothing to do any of the mentioned for. Critique, now I can do that!
This is one of the best comics on this site! You disserve more visits and comments than you get! Your art is stupendous, the coloring is astonishing, and the story line is top notch!
The ANTicipation waiting for an up-date is well worth it!
If those of you out there are NOT reading ANTCOMICS… you are significantly missing out!

While I'm no good at reviews. I will simply break it down in to parts. Maybe that'll make it easier for lil ol' pathetic me. :cry2:

Art - The art is awesome with a capital "q", the colouring is also awesome. It's amazing enough to see how good the colours look, but knowing that it's not digitally aided makes it oh so better!

Jokes - The jokes are usually corny and a pun on the word "ant"...but seriously. what part of that doesn't make that hilarious? Some of the jokes are a parody of an Adam ants song, which can sometimes be confusing when you don't know anything about them :S.

Anything else I can randomly think of - I'm sure everyone else realised they look like Dennis the menace comics. And that's also cool.

No seriously. I'm no good at reviews, but I CAN say, these are awesome, people should read them.

The end.

Thanks everyone!

Yes Crocty, I realize that the song references can be confusing. Those comics are really for the diehard fans (kinda like I was saying up in the original post--I never thought it would even appeal to folks who didn't know who AATA were, or had never heard their music). Ancomics were originally pretty much only read by the people from the Ant Message board, "AntRap". So I always assumed I'd have a very limited audience.

It boggles my mind when people that aren't familiar with them or their music at all laugh at those jokes, to be perfectly honest. I do, however try to sometimes make the song references funny enough that people won't necessarily know the song but the cartoon itself will still be funny (Like "Big Tough Girl", for example.).

Your review was good, BTW--you sell yourself short. :D

For others that don't get the song refs, there are comics like "Bicycle Ride", "Marco's Idea" and other goofy stuff that's basically just slapstick. I have always loved slapstick humor...so people that can't stand it will probably be turned off by Antcomics.

I watch them a lot in concert and their videos (which are just freaking great--and a lot of them are hilarious)--so many of my ideas stem from that as well.

Yeah, that big tough girl one, I figured it was a song reference, but it was still great. Keep up the good work!!!!!

I remember seeing the comic itself a lot when I wen by Zorphbert and Fred, but never really wanted to click it.

It wasn't until you got featured that I discovered that your comic is really good.

I love the art style, it really has a School House Rock feel and look to it. Umm... I don't have really any critique on it, but could I suggest you try digital colouring sometime? Your art looks good as it is, but maybe you could give it a shot when you have the time to do that. It might look even better.
Updates Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday's (depends).
