Hey, everyone! I decided the artwork for my comic was horrid, so I decided to change it. I wanted to know if it was worth it.
My first method:
I would do all of the drawings on the computer with a tablet. It took FOREVER to do, and the lines were never straight. On top of that, the backgrounds were so simple, and looked really bad. I used a lot of screentones, which made it look like I was relying on them too much. Example:

My second method:
I would pencil it and ink it traditionally, then scan it. The quality is slightly worse because it's a little foggy. Although, the lines are straight, and it is neater. Also, I am able to put much more detail into the background. I can add screentones, but I don't do as much because of the added detail in the lines. Example:

Although, I'm going to make sure it looks neater later on. Yeah.
So... is it worth it?

This is one of those cases where you'll have to decide what you prefer, releasing pages with better artwork at the expense of time, or cutting the art a tiny little bit to release more pages. Either way works, since both techniques you got look pretty good. Granted, the second blows the first out of the water, but either way works.
Also, the stick-on cuts gag is brilliant. Go get yourself a cookie.

They both look good in different ways. Have you tried inking? It might be hat you get a happy medium between the two if you ink your lines. It'd allow you to get the same detail from the pencil example, but with less fogginess.

Yes, I did pencil then ink :) It's the scanning, not the traditional stuff! Thanks for the comment ^_^

I like the second method, but you can digitally enhance the lines. It's very hard explaining how I do it. First I mess about with levels so lines are clearly black and space is clearly white, then I select all the lines with the wand and use the bucket to fill them in on a new layer. This makes them a nice solid, smooth black. Then it's much easier to colour underneath them and not have to worry about going over the lines.

Hehe, thanks for that! I already know how to make the lines less blurry, but unfortunately, the program I use doesn't allow that... I can't copy it from photoshop. It won't let me. I also can't copy it from any other program that I have. I can only copy stuff within manga studio. But thanks, though :)

In the end it comes down to which you prefer, and both look really good, but I definitely prefer the second. The detailed backgrounds make it look more professional (and, you know, pretty) to me.
