I admit I have drawn inflation art on my comic before: http://www.drunkduck.com/Short_Story_Comics/pages/94c9c28ceb26e0601256f1fc0d53fdf4.jpg

Truth is, just because I have drawn inflation art doesn't mean I like inflation art. I drew it because I like to poke fun at a character and partly having amused by the silly things I drew. But if I were to overdo inflation art for every page of my comic, then that's considered a disturbing fetish.

Yeah, that's not inflation art, unless there's a page that comes before or after that which shows one of them becoming super-fat from eating hundreds of people. =P If it's close to any fetish it would be "vore", but it's not even really graphic enough to qualify as that, to me (since the eating takes place off panel).

Yeah, I didn't see anything weight gain about that page either.

I got irritated at "mainstream" comics' lack of fat characters years ago, while I was still doing superhero comics. I experimented around for a few years and made a fat superheroine who gained weight through a pregnancy but her powers were not dependent on physical strength or fitness. I was putting my comics online then too and she was my most popular character for a few years -- I think people just wanted to see a change.

I went to the other extreme and created a "feeder" style villain who was telepathic and could actually cause exaggerated weight gain. He was truly evil but he was a bit too one-dimensional and caused more problems than he solved, in terms of story. You have no idea how hard it was to write my way out of that plot "box."

That said, more recently, in Due East, we did have one of our characters, Sapphira, gain about 50 pounds over the course of a few months between strips 9 and 11, as it were, but we didn't show her stuffing her face. In fact, you don't see the weight gain "process" at all. She's one weight in strip 9 and another in strip 11, with it clearly being explained in strip 10 that 2 months have passed. The weight gain was mostly due to inactivity and lack of motivation after moving from Canada back to the United States and being unable to find a job. Now, she's the weight she is and that's what she'll stay.

And as a contrast, we recently showed that another of the characters used to weigh more than she does now (about 25 - 30 pounds more) but she lost that weight while grieving the death of a parent. Reasonable reason, nothing fetishistic.

In real life, people lose and gain weight over time. It's the quick gains for effect that tend to attract the fetish crowd. I think that's what leads to the confusion over Craving Control. The lead character's gains are quick and significant amounts, even though at this point, they have only been temporary. The author just appears to be having fun, much like his main character. I don't think CC is intentionally fetishistic but it has clearly gained the attention and adoration of that crowd. But to its credit, there are other elements to the story (and I don't mean a certain part of her anatomy).

Just my two cents...
