So, which out of the Zelda series is your favourite?
Mine personally was Majora's Mask. I was never good at Ocarina of Time, so I was reluctant to try MM- but I'm glad I did. I never liked all the dungeon crawling in OoT, so I was relieved to find that there were only 4 real dungeons in MM, plus they were reasonable in length (of course they kinda have to be, if you only have 3 days in-game for each). The whole mask concept is awesome (you get to be a GORON, damn it!), and if you're ever about to die, you can always just play your Ocarina to restart the three-day cycle.
I also enjoyed the Oracle series for GBC. :D

Personally, I liked playing as the Zora more in that game, mainly because I got to be some kinda crazy, Kung-fu fish-man.
Anyway, for me it's Link to the Past.

Four Swords was fun if you could bring together three friends to play it. Although getting people to cooperate could be frustrating, especially if you had the fire rod (the temptation to abuse it is just too great).
As far as the best of the series, though, I still think Lint to the Past was the most polished and fun to play game in the series. There was just something about those early generation SNEs games that made them feel incredibly epic, as well.

I think Ocarina of Time had the most profound effect on me.
It gets pretty hard to choose because I loved them all (except those ones we can't mention) and for different reasons. Zelda still feels fresh to me because each one is built over a new sort of concept.

Majora's Mask for me. Even after everything worthwhile has been done, you could still do incredibly silly things - like getting up on stage in the Milk Bar, taking out the Ocarina in Zora form and mashing the buttons. Rock out!
It's such a hard choice! Link to the Past was so big and fun, Ocarina of Time I played to death, Minish Cap had some really new ideas, Four Swords was great, once everyone was organised...

The only one I haven't played is Majora's Mask, and I probably never will... :(
I played Minish Cap before the Oracle ones, and I thought it was really clever as well (although after I played Oracles I realized they'd borrowed some ideas from there, but the whole shrinking thing was new.)
Link to the Past was good, but I suppose it just feels a bit too old for me now for it to be my favorite.
I think Wind Waker is my favorite. The only thing I hated was all the sailing. It's probably the same amount of time and work as walking around a map, but it was so boring. They let you warp after about half the game, but that hardly helps you at all. Then you have to go around trying to find the extras in the water, but the maps you get don't mark the ones you've found, so you have no idea whether you've already collected that submarine or what. :/ I probably missed loads of extra stuff because I couldn't be bothered to sail around that much. The game itself was really cute and immersive though, and all the fighting and puzzles were really fun.

Well, if you've got a GameCube, you can usually find the Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask combo disc at GameStop or something.

If you want to pay an arm and a leg for it. Gamestop charges more than retail on a used game that was a free pack in with the gamecube. On the website, you'll pay $40 for a used copy (pretty outrageous considering a $50 game sells for $30 used at gamestop). Go into a store and you could end up paying $60+ for the same game. For two NES games and two N64 games, that doesn't seem like much of a bargain.
I also find it funny that the version of Ocarina of Time which people who preordered Wind Waker got costs $30 used at gamestop, but Wind Waker is $20 new.

one of the old gameboy ones, perhaps link's awakening, that was a non-infuriating game, havent been a fan of Zelda games since they got 3D, same with sonic games.
Of course you will. All intelligent beings dream. Nobody knows why.

I have got a GameCube, which I basically only wanted because of Zelda games (so waited until just a few months ago to get it cheap!) The set isn't OOT/MM though. It's OOT/WW. Majora's Mask needs the N64 with some other kind of special equipment or something, which is why it will probably never be ported to GC, and why a lot of people didn't bother with it... apparently.
The only way I'll get to play MM is if I bother trying to set up an emulator on the computer for it, which I won't unless I'm really, really bored and maybe get a better computer.
Edit: After consulting Wikipedia I have found that I am right about needing the Expansion Pak for N64, but wrong about the MM not being available on the GC. (Although they did do a different repackage with OOT/WW which I have.) Ebay perhaps will have MM for me, although nothing MM for gamecube is coming up on ebay.co.uk ...

Yeah, Majora was ported to GC. There were two Zelda classics discs: one, the OOT/Master Quest disc that came with Wind Waker pre-orders, and the second one with TLOZ/LA/OOT/MM (I believe), that came with new GameCubes for a limited time.
(For the record, MM did need an N64 memory expansion pack , but the GameCube is pretty darn powerful and would have no trouble emulating it.)

This [cgi.ebay.co.uk] is what you're looking for. Run a search for Zelda Collector's Edition and you should find a few different auctions running. I'm not sure of the exchange rate, so I don't know how those prices hold up against the American ebay prices ($40+).

Call me cliche, but there was something about OoT that I enjoyed over the other Zelda games. Maybe it was the hinting of RPG elements, maybe it was the nice graphics of the time. Whatever it was, it's definitely my favourite, followed very closely by Majora's Mask.
My least favourite was definitely Wind Waker. It was so unbelievably against everything else they had done that I couldn't help but despise it. It was manufactured for an audience of ten-year-olds.
I can't wait for Twilight Princess.

Ocarina of Time. While some of the other Zelda games may be more "fun" there was just this huge awe affect OOT had. It was epic, plain and simple, it was an epic game. From the vast landscape to the sometimes weird ass dungeons (a giant fish) OOT was pure gaming bliss from the start up to the final battle.

Instead of putting a long long post (like I started) listing my favorite Zelda games in order, I'll just answer the qyestion:
A Link to the Past.
Perhaps it's the nostalgia gained from being the first Zelda game I ever beat, and was allowed to play by myself, but I think it's because it was simply the best. Sure, OoT was great, but LttP was the most innovative. I particularly liked turning into a bunny the first time you enter the dark world.
Though, I will add I actually saw someone beat The Adventure of Link. For real. In front of my own eyes. I thought it couldn't be done! But it could!
In retrospect it really wasn't such a horrible game, but certainly the worst in the Zelda series, though Link's Awakening currently holds my ire because of the fire rob glitch that made my entire game file worthless, thus negating all ym effort to wake up the spooty Windfish, thus wasting a solid 2 - 4 weeks of my life, weeks that could have been spent playing other games.

I beat Zelda II and I enjoyed it, different as it was. I think it's even allowable for you to say it's the worst Zelda game.... Because look at what games you're comparing it to. It's one of a few instances Nintendo tried something really new with the Zelda franchise.
Miyamoto says that Twilight Princess may be the last Zelda of its kind we see, meaning it sounds like they'll rework Zelda for the new console.

I have to say something about OoT really got me into Zelda. I played Link Awakening before and wasn't to impressed. OoT got me into all the good games like MM and the Orical games. But my two favorites are OoT and LTTP.
As for the different stuff for the Wii all I heard about was that you could fish and shoot with the remote and some other stuff. You don't use it like a sword because that would be tiring.

I also have the gamesube collectors edition disc with OoT/MM/LA/TLoZ along with a WindWaker demo
I aslo like Windwaker, although I never got to beat it since my friend who let me borrow it moved away

I finally got around to buying Majora's Mask off e-bay. I'm not sure how I like it - It's fun and there's some clever puzzles to solve, but I hate having to re-do tasks because you've started the days over. The timing of some events is interesting, but it's almost more than I want to bother with. Aside from the dungeons, I'm heavily using a walkthrough to make sure I don't miss talking to someone at the right time, that I can complete what I start, etc. I don't mind games where they present you with lots of stuff you can't do yet, but in MM it isn't always obvious that you can't finish things yet.
All that, AND since it's basically a remake of Ocarina of Time, a lot of the things I didn't like in OoT are back in MM. Like the horse race and the shooting games. I know some of them are optional but they aren't fun at all, I only like fun things in Zelda games.
I went back and finished Wind Waker too, I expected a bigger final dungeon. :( Probably my favorite Zelda game though (Wind Waker).
