Your comic's 'Soundtrack.'

Here's a good question for anyone who wants to get creative, or deep, or imaginative.

Your comic strip/story has achieved a well-known status that it's famous. So much, in fact, that it'll reach a deal to turn it into a film, a television show, or an animated series/film, whichever your choice. Most of these usually get paired up with music to sell that's inspired by or featured in either one of these - usually a marketing thing. They've put you in charge of the songs.

What would you pick? (out of at least ten songs)

Here's some examples of what I'm talking about: Here [en.wikipedia.org], Here [en.wikipedia.org], Here [en.wikipedia.org]. Each one's different in the sense that the first is music heard 'within' the film, second is more-or-less a mix of songs related or fitting the basic audience, and then you've got the 'epic movie score' with the last one.

You've got the choice of whatever fits with your comic, or depending on how long it is - songs related to plot arcs or situations (themes), or just whichever seems appropriate to set the mood.

For Malefic the theme tune would have to be this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8cQSTC4HFw&feature=related

A related piece of music that would also have to get featured somewhere would be this. Possibly where Dan Toby and Louis go to check out the supermarket and they get attacked and Louis drives away.

If I could pick someone to do the film score for my comic, it'd be a tough call - John Williams is too majestic, Hans Zimmer abuses synthesizers, but I do love Klaus (last name escapes me), but he did The Time Machine film made a few good years back. However, whenever I think of my two mice characters, I want something swingin' and upbeat.

All of this seems to fit the bill. Maybe a good twenty years ahead of their time, but considering how fast and fun Pat and Vinnie can be, I think it'd be a nice slip in.

I'd probably stick in some rock songs for the really slick action parts.

I had songs I didn't write picked out for each character a while back, though. Maybe I can find the list again.

That's pretty awesome! 8D So you compose all of it related to the comic and the like? ^^ Epic win! I would to if I had some lyrical/musical talent. xD I used to know a few friends back in High School who wanted to get a band going, I'd ask them to help out if they want. (Though they're predominantly a goth/metal kinda band)

Wow! Now THAT was pretty awesome!!!

I have a very wide taste in music, but I guess that I would choose mostly Heavy Metal, J-Rock and Latin Rock songs, also a few techno and electronic things and some epic instrumental stuff in the vibe of Basil Poledouris and Nobuo Uematsu.

Shaman Quest Opening theme: Luna Sea's Rosier
Shaman Quest Credit theme: Lucybell's Ver el Fin
Fight theme: Ground Zero Funk (Tekken 5)

All I can think right now...

itsjustaar - A lot of those pieces were made for a failed animated version, but I did keep them around and composed some new ones as a supplement to the online story. It'd be neat if you could get those friends to help you out! I've only seen a few webcomics with their own soundtracks. Star Cross'd Destiny comes to mind - though I don't think the creator of that comic draws it anymore, she's got her own band that's on the road now.

Thanks, Dark Pascual =)

If I could make a basic 'music inspired by' for my comic (I wouldn't want to get into the spoilers leading up to their usage), I'd probably pick some of the following. Two of them would probably be heard as trailer music to gear up the audience.

1. 'Highway to Hell' - AC/DC
2. 'Flesh and Blood' (Sacrifice) - Poison
3. 'It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock and Roll)' - AC/DC
4. 'The Joker & the Thief' - Wolfmother
5. 'Leader of the Pack' - Shangri-La's
6. 'Keep A-Knockin'' - Little Richard
7. 'Runaway' - Del Shannon
8. 'Misery, Inc.' - Soul Asylum
9. 'Searchin'' - The Coasters
10. 'Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun' - Anthrax (Beastie Boys cover)

These songs are really cool. =D Music definitely helps keep the mood going for any comic, I figure; 'mood music', as it were. ^^ I can't even begin to tell ya how even 'Leatherheads' soundtrack helps me too.

I also started work on a soundtrack for the Combined universe of Mahlaste/Nervewire/Aliens Like Us a few years ago. I still haven't finished them. Thought I would be better working on PAGES rather than tracks and so instead of posting them up in their two years incomplete forms I'm going to post up individual lists of what I listen to while I'm drawing the characters and roughs...

... Then I get angry and start again...

I'll make a list for each character when I feel like it since they all have different personalities as well as opinions other people have of them and therefore soundtracks for each. Starting with "Mahlaste's" Khy Alawe:

Boom Boom Satelites - Back On My Feet
Zeromancer - Lamp Halo
Pendulum - Hold Your Colour
Atlas Plug - Crimson Phoenix
Assemblage 23 - Fallen Down
VNV Nation - Legion
Machinae Supremacy - Ghost
System Of A Down - Chop Suey
Zeromancer - Houses Of Cards
Assemblage 23 - Let Me Be Your Armor
Pendulum - Watercolour
Apoptygma Berzerk - In This Together
VNV Nation - Illusion

I think this fits musically and occasionally lyrically with a young man struggling with guilt, grief, depression and trying to keep himself believing that better days are ahead. Even if they may seem like delusions to everyone else. These apply as well to his opinions of his probably dead brother and them living their lives together before and after the universe started tearing them apart seam by seam. I can't mention more than that for spoilers, really.

But they work for me when I'm drawing his concept art and typing his dialogue. And I'll do this for a few main characters before doing one list for Aliens Like Us as a whole because, well, it's got too many main characters to keep track of.

Hey, at least I'm not back in the days in which I had over 300 named characters for one storyline!

Actually, like Whirlynd, I've actually done webcomic soundtracks before. I just don't have them online. I have one .

I guess "done" is the wrong word to use, since I've kinda bounced around scenes and it's not fully "done", but oh well.

To make one with actual songs, I get the feeling Clockwork Atrium would sound very... electronic:

1. Funker Vogt - Siegeszug
2. Assemblage 23 - Let Me Be Your Armor
3. Fictional - Blue Lights
4. Journey - Separate Ways which sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the rest of these titles
5. Casanova - In The Name Of Love
6. Funker Vogt - Für Dich
7. Enigma - Lost Eleven
8. VNV Nation - Holding On
9. Tristania - Sirene
10. And One - Dein Ende

About half of them were chosen because the lyrics fit the theme of the comic (ie Blue Lights, Separate Ways, Für Dich), the other half because the tune fit the mood.

4. Miles Davis - Billy Boy
5. Mongo Santamaria - I Can't Get Next To You
6. Funkadelic - Atmosphere
7. Maynard Ferguson - Soar Like An Eagle
8. Herbie Hancock - Chameleon
9. Ennio Morricone - Mucchio Selvaggio
10. Fela Kuti And The Afrika 70 - Water Get No Enemy

Clint Eastwood (Gorillaz)
Bullet With Butterfly Wings (Smashing Pumpkins)
Don't Fear The Reaper (Blue Oyster Cult)

Here's a list for the dude in my sig.
The Prodigy - Take Me To The Hospital
Wumpscut - Wreath Of Barbs
Turmion Kätilöt - Pirun Nyrkki
GenCAB - Version 2
Funker Vogt - My Fortune
Frontline Assembly - Fragmented
Hocico - Drowning
Celldweller - Eon
Heimataerde - Die Offenbarung
Wumpscut - Totmacher

Going through thousands of tracks to pick ten is hard work...

But anyway, Rekkiy is a grade A loose cannon that's an ass to everyone who he thinks is being selfish and stupid. Which is kinda warped to some people considering he's still full of hormonal rage as well as brain damaged and goes berserk when people don't do what he tells them to or flat out tell him "No".
As you can guess, he has a past. Not so much dark and brooding about it but just can't be bothered to tell complete strangers that hate him and give them ammo for insults. And he gives people a lot of reasons to do so including punching injured old ladies and making graphic death threats towards children.

Then again, some folk say he's a really nice guy... Seriously...

For Elements the soundtrack would be anything from the Zelda games, since they were probably the biggest inspiration for the characters and artistic style. I also draw the comics with Zelda's soundtrack playing in the background, so it's only natural.

Also I guess anything from the SNES era of fantasy and RPGs would work as well, but Zelda still sticks out the most to me.

I have actually thought of this one before.. I don't know if I can do a full ten but

For Wireless

Theme song would be Electric Romeo by Immediate Music
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kzj6wdJuyQ
for slower songs I'd do interstellar by Groove Addicts
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wa6tsZoQ0ws
As for the rest? hmmmm... I'd probably want either John Powell or Danny Elfman to write it

All you have to do is tick the box marked "use old version" and you get the old embed code instead :)

In future DD will make posting of vids easier.

Really good sound picks here. :D I'm liable to change my soon, actually, thinking more in tune of a Disney-ish kinda musical thing going.

I can definitely imagine a familiar tune to "Consider Yourself" from Oliver! going in at some point. I'll have to arrange this post later once I look at it some more.
