X-men: What's going on?

From what I can see, there are three plotlines going on at the same time( Astonishing X-men, New X-men, and Phoenix: Warsong.) I'm not quite sure what to think. These plotlines have Emma Frost being in three different places at once, Scott Summers being in two different places, and Wolverine is just all over the map. How am I supposed to be able to tell what's going on?

You're not. Each series has various continuities. Of course this a problem when a company won't let a franchise go. @_@;;

The problem is that not enough writers are working together. Even with a huge, cooperation-heavy job like the Civil War thing we've got going on at the big M, there's still a lot of loose threads and virtual paradoxes based on the fact that one writer feels that Wolverine really ought to be wrestling a sentinel without checking to make sure that he's not already schedule to suckerpunch Namor in the back of the head.

Personally, I think each X book should have a set "cast" (which is more or less what they did years back), that way, without working together to some degree, there won't be three Emma Frost's (unless that's the story, like in the recent Uncanny stuff) or 87 Wolverines (the man is everywhere). X-Factor has the right idea by focusing on the characters out of the mainstream (plus I dig the art, but that's a whole other rant), and I think more people should focus on doing something with characters that aren't physically capable of being there at the time.

Recently, I've only read 'Astonishing', but I know what you mean, Wolverine is freaking everywhere at once! I used to think Wolvie was pretty cool, but now he's just boring because he's always everywhere.
Even though it's often the 'poor younger sibling', I like reading 'Ultimate X-men', it takes place in it's own continuity, and there's only one monthly book of it, so I don't miss stuff because of not reading other titles or get confused because Cyclops is in three books at once.
I'm more of a fan of 'Runaways' than X-men anyway. 'Runaways' is awesome.

Wolverine is way too over-hyped...

Anyway, I enjoyed the X-men stories back in the 90s. I totally dug the Age of Apocolypse storyline. I'm not sure what they're trying to do with these new X-men stories. It looks too much like anime these days >.> I guess that's Marvel's way of drawing in the readership or something...

I'm more of a Marvel fan than DC, but that's totally uncool..

Totally agree with you. The 90's X-Men stories were great. Especially the Jim Lee era. The Age of Apocolypse story kicked ass IMO. I liked the old Alan Davis Excalibur stuff, too. They were completely separate from the rest of the X stories.

I feel your pain. I followed X-men and Uncanny for years... and then at Uni didn't have enough money to keep buying them all so couldn't keep up. I've tried recently to get back into them and had precisely NO idea where to start!! Way too many titles. (so I went and spent the money on Lobo comics instead XD).
NecroDragon.com - my art gallery. Not for people who don't like dragons :P

Daemonslayers.com - the fate of the demon-torn world of Tymaera lies in the hands of a washed-up cursed dragon and two messed-up lycanthropes. Oh dear...

you said everything I had to say...

YOU KNOW WHAT HACKS ME OFF!
buying the collected age Of Apocalypse ...

and it is like a Monkey on crack edited it!
WTF MANGZ

so I ACQUIRED an ILLEGAL collection of the AOA from a good source...all on a cd.
it is neat-o.

just would have liked to read it again in book form...

but Marvel decided to hump 30.00 dollars out of me and wasn't even nice enough to send me flowers afterwards.

now I got this crack monkey version...it is barely comprehensible.
and I am not going to unseal my pristine origionals, because they are sealed in an airtight bomb vault under a salt mine in an undisclosed location of my choice.
