WTF, When did that happen?

When did the PSP get so many good games?

I mean, right now it has-

Monster Hunter Freedom 1&2
Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions
Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness
Silent Hill: Origins
also moar games that I forgot about

And coming up are-

Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core
Dissidia: Final Fantasy
Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep
God of War: Chains of Olympus
also moar games that I once again forgot about

Really though, that's just all I can think of off the top of my head. I'm sure that other people can think of games, and I know that I've seen more myself.

But what I'm asking is...

How did I miss this happening?

You're right, a year or two ago I simply didn't feel like owning a PSP. But the little machine has come into its own and started making reasons to have it. I think developers started figuring out they can't make home-console games on a portable handheld. PS2 games may be fun, but people play differently when they're on the go with a smaller screen.

With the PSP Slim hitting soon, some of the PSP's most glaring flaws have been fixed. It will have a TV-Out for watching UMD movies or playing your game on your TV. I still don't see a lot of use in buying UMDs, but now that you can watch them on TV, they're not useless.

While the PSP can't replace my DS, I do think I'll be picking up the Slim version eventually.

What the hell are you on, Lord?

The PSP has always had good gaems. It's been that way ever since I bought mine on launch day. Sure some of them were ports, but they at least were good ports, well, good for the capability of the system.

Really though, all the gaems on your list interest me the slightest. Last gaem I played on my PSP before it broke was Dead Head Fred and after that, nothing.

Well, I knew it had some good games, but I never noticed that it had that many good ones.

So, lolidunno.

FF Tactics, Disgaea, and God of War look interesting, but the rest? Hmmm... well, I'm not going to say they look bad, they're just not the kind of games I'm into.

I wanted to get one a couple years ago, I was approaching it like a home console, because the games were all "home console" games, games you'd sit down and play for like 6 hours, rather than 15 minutes standing in line, which is what I use my GBA for (One of these days I'm going to be so good at galaga, you don't even know)

But you couldn't hook it up to the tv without some ridiculous inverted camera attatchment, so i was like "very no" but their fixing that, so it's back on my radar.

I've been dreaming about a handheld Wipeout since like 1998

Hmmm, I like the look of some of those. I'm going to have to look into this some more and decide if it's time I finally got one.

Also Medievil: Resurrection was pretty good as well.

I bought a PSP ages ago with high hopes, buying games I also had high hopes for, but didn't end up playing any of them for very long. The best two games on PSP (up until a couple months ago) were, for me, LocoRoco and Katamari. I don't really like RPGs, driving, or fighting games. I loaned my PSP and some games to a friend who wanted to try GTA and let him keep them for 7 months, haha. :)

I just asked for it back a few weeks ago though. Dead Head Fred was an excellent game (and long too), and now I'm playing SH Origins... but when I'm done with those it will be back to the DS.

I find it interesting because there is actually very little that makes the DS "better" than the PSP on the technical side. Really, I think the only differences aside from the touch screen are that the battery generally lasts longer and there's usually no load time. If anything the PSP is quite a bit stronger, what with the disc-based system and the higher definition screen. Is the DS just easier to program for? Do people just trust Nintendo more in the handheld market? Either way, I'm glad there's some competition in the industry. Gives companies a reason to try new things and to take a few risks.

Hell yes. I loved that game!

...And then the UMD case broke. D:

Also, Shplane, guess what game you missed on your already-out list?

Go ahead, guess.

The DS is on record for being the least-expensive platform to develop for (even cheaper than the GBA, believe it or not) and I've heard it's also one of the easiest, so that may be a factor. But I think the lower price point and weaker processor power actually caused developers to make games for the DS that are simpler. And these simpler games just happen to be more conducive to a handheld system. Combine that with the novelty of the touch screen and the "________ Training" games fad that boosted the DS's install base. Plus, you're probably right about the trust developers had for Nintendo in the portable market. Given this whole planetary alignment in favor of the DS, it's incredible the PSP has done as well as it has.

I might think about getting one after the holidays. Riviera and Yggdra Union with upated graphics and voice acting is enough to get me interested.

Like I said, those aren't all the good games. Just the ones I could think of off the top of my head.
