Would you do an homage/parody of an existing comic's cover?

It's almost a tradition to say, do an image of a character imitating Superman's car grab and smash it against the wall sort of thing. If you were allowed to (and I'm not sure it would be on DD), would you probably do something like that?

I was kinda toying around with the idea, sort of like kinda poke fun at popular covers, while the rest would be original.

If the idea fit then yes. Just ripping off a cover is one thing but with a knowing wink then why not.

One of the things I loved doing while making this for a short while was doing zombified animated film covers, or notable Marvel/DC stuff. I think I might look into my old website and post a few sometime on my new forum, what little still remains. xD

But yeah, this kinda stuff would be awesome. ^^

No problems. Such covers can be a lot of fun. I've even used a parody for an ad (http://www.drunkduck.com/Essay_Bee_Comics_Presents_Fusion/index.php?p=676857 ). But as Genejoke said, it works best if there's some reasoning or logic for using it.

Actually, I have been thinking about some sort of homage on one of Paladin covers, but I have yet to choose if I'll do (ask Gamer to do it).

DD has no issue with that at all. It's allowed as parody in copyright law.

If the owner of the copyright complained we miiiiiiiiight do something then, because DD doesn't want to get in any fights, but even then it's the responsibility of the copyright owner to take it up with the artist who posted the work, not us.

I hope not. D:

The crying Superman cover is a shoe-in for something to poke fun of. I wouldn't know about a tribute to it; maybe the 'Spider-Man No More' cover.

I can't think of any situations where it'd be appropriate in my comic. It's not something I'd do just for the hell of it.

There aren't any famous covers that make much sense to parody in my comic, especially seeing as how superheroes are still the biggest genre in comics and I am not making a superhero comic (I'd find it hard to play straight and, well, superhero parodies are a dime a dozen on top of the fact that the real deal does poke fun at itself once in a while).

Famous horror movie moments? Yeah, I could do those, except that I don't do covers for my webcomic because I don't see the point, really. It's not in print, and new arcs are sort of announced by the return of the main cast after a short breather of one-page gags with random extras. If I ever do print this thing, though...

I can see it probably happening in something similar to Crossoverkill, or a DD community project which involved specific comic story themed characters to appear, in which the characters each paid tribute or did homages on their respect covers. Have some kinda role-reversal thing, maybe?

Like having the character from the Lackadaisy comics doing Pat's strut in the cover of my comic. xD ...which would be kinda amusing. I haven't caught up in that comic in awhile.

I've done it with classic art before but not comic covers yet.

I've actually done that for a golden age Batman cover, but since it's a Negligence comic that hasn't gone live yet, I can't show it.

Not a /comic/ cover parody, but it's the same idea:

My Cover: http://www.drunkduck.com/Koji_Takahashi_Stops_the_World/index.php?p=776913

The Movie Poster I'm parodying/giving homage to: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/4/4e/The_Girl_Who_Leapt_Through_Time_poster.jpg/220px-The_Girl_Who_Leapt_Through_Time_poster.jpg [upload.wikimedia.org]

Most people seem to get it and enjoy it... I even used a line from the movie as my tag line (also as a homage, because it fits too well and... I love that movie.)

I like seeing well done homage covers, and, if your comic is similar to the source material, a lot of the time it will attract people to read more!

I once tried to do a project on parodying other people's comics and putting them together to make an entirely different storyline so yes, I would do it but no, I haven't and would not without permisson.

I have pondered two things. 1, a project parodying superhero universes in general (and doing my take on every single superhero) and then killing them off one by one, heh.
and 2, taking old comics and rewriting the dialogue to something bizarre.
Like, in an old Spiderman comic you have a scene where he's punching someone with the sound effect "WOK", I thought about adding the text "chinese kitchen time!" or something.

Never bothered with either. Maybe someday.

I'm planning on doing the the identity crisis cover for my next chapter. Cause it was one of my favorites as a kid.
