The is a loaded question.

I think the question is more like...what could make you fall out of love with comics.

However to answere your actually question, lots of things.

If someone I love got sick and I didn't have time for comics & taking care of them.

If I got an opporunity to do something I else I love like work on a game design team or get involved with a proffesional film production.

If someone offered to pay me to work on another project I was interested in.

etc. etc. etc. Really the list goes on.

Most likely eventually I will feel that I've told all the original stories I can with a specific set of characters and want to do a spin off if I feel the premise is still solid or maybe even a whole new series if I feel I can make a better one.

I love my comics each and everyone but I want to do this proffessionally and that might mean I have to part ways with an series eventually and I'm a realist about that. Anyone remember New Universe or Milestone Comics? Both of those someone loved and thought it was a good idea but the ideas didn't work comercially. (In the case of New Universe due to terrible mismanagement and Milestone largely due to poor marketing.) The people involved loved their series but had to move on. When the time was right some of them got to come back to their dream project with the NEW New Universe or the Static Shock animated series. I think that is more then likely to happen to me at some point if I ever make it into the semi-professional circles. I won't like it, but I am prepared for it.

I hope I'm one of those artists who are found slumped over their art desk.

...I also hope that that doesn't happen for at least another fifty years.

I'll be done once I have finished the whole story. So I'll probably never be done as it is SOOOO long.
Or if I become rich, then I'll just get professionals to make it =P Um, even then I guess I would still be working on it in a way though...

Read "The Devon Legacy".

I love the art and the story so much that, in a way, I hope it never ends.

I have ended long-running projects before. I did one for over 20 years and some for about 5 years. The hardest one to end was the 20-year running superhero series, since I had gotten so close to the characters.

I can imagine I would feel the same way about Due East's characters when the story eventually comes to an end (but I don't foresee that any time soon). I'm so sentimental... (sniffle!)

Do you mean stop doing my current project or stop doing comics in general? I do plan to end my current comic eventually, but probably not for some time. I've also had times where I quit making comics altogether. Though for me quitting comics is like quitting smoking.

It has an ending, therefore yes. Though I may make a prequel and sequel of it. It depends.

If I'm still living here, yes. Doom nuts and conspiracy theorists believe the end of the world will happen when the Mayan colander runs out in 2012. I'll have a long running story arc about the end of the world that I'll probably start setting up in the middle of next year.

I'd never quit doing comics. I've always drawn great little characters with words coming out, and show them off. Especially with the success of penis, I'm doubting I'd ever end it. Even if I got professional gigs, I'd still have it as a personal project online.

If the question is will I ever stop working on the comic I'm doing now - that's not at all unlikely. Not anytime soon, but a few years from now, if a cool gig with a good writer presents itself, I'd probably do it. But I'll never stop doing comics altogether. No way.

I don't think I'll ever stop in general. This is what keeps me going, and not losing my mind when I see people who have it easier than me in life enjoying themselves. It's a good outlet.

Stop doing comics...never! Did that once and it lasted 6 years....6 Years of my life waisted. Purely from burnout and dissatisfaction with the industry. SoulDriver does have an ending...but could be continued after this arc. If I wanted. But I've got at least 4-5 stories in the works. A couple horror yarns...a western and even a superhero story I'd like to do. And hopefully I'll always have tales to tell. I'm havin' to much fun to stop now.

This is a weird topic for me too.

I did stop at one point. I had to stop. I had a more than full-time job with ridiculous hours. I got burned out right at the end of my first book, working on three chapters at once, doing a page a day. And then life drama... lots and lots of life drama took the helm. At the time my art started to look worse and worse (I'm at those pages right now actually on the Duck) and I was more and more dissatisfied with my work. I realized I needed a break but after all that I wasn't sure if I'd ever be able to come back.

But it ate me - the inability to do what I love... to spend time with my characters and develop their lives. I caught a break and now I'm half way through my second book (even though it's not all online yet).

I'd love to say short of my hands falling off nothing will ever stop me again from doing what I love. But you just can't make blanket statements like that. Yes, I'm a realist. Meh. ^_-

geez, I hope so. Comics are a great medium, but there's a lot of other creative venues I'd like to explore. I hope to someday become a published comic artist (by tokyopop! I SHALL ACCEPT NO LESS!!... or some other veritable company) but after that I want to do more creative writing... I miss that. nothing wrong with comics, but it's just such slow-going, it takes so long to do one measley page that took at most ten minutes to write... just quantitatively, the amount of character development allowed in the written word is far greater than in comics. So I miss that feeling, of being able to channel a character and think his thoughts and write his words and see the world through his particular lenses. Little interior things, you know?
Also I wanna go back to the classic fine-arts, find myself elbow deep in charcoal dust, the whole shebang.

nothing wrong with comic-making (it's as close as I can get to being both a writer and artist at the same time, although significant parts of both are lost in the process for me) but I hope to do more than just this.

oh and when MisfAs ends (or I end it without a conclusion! mwahah!) I've got a backlog of about ten manga ideas written out in extreme detail. ^_^ so I think I'm gonna stick with comics at least for a few more years.

I barely started working on my comic four months ago, so it's hard to speculate WHEN it will end, but I know it'll have to, at some point. I haven't even decided on an ending yet - and this is most of the time the first thing I come up with for a story (I'm also a writer, btw). But I know I'll stop when it's lost all the magic. When I just stop loving the story, stop wanting to tell you more...

Or when the plot turns into a Prison Break spoof ;)

Yeah, I want to keep the main arc as straightforward as it gets. Of course, it's all about allusions and symbols on a deeper level, but the basic premise is very simple - or, should I say, a bit cheesy, even ;) I want to keep it that way. So my characters won't go to Mars or Iraq. And if in one episode they find and kill bin Laden, somebody please kill me.

Also, I still consider myself a writer first and foremost, and I have tons upon tons of stories in my head. Before, I used to write almost every single day. Ever since I started doing the comic, everything slowed down significantly. I'm not saying my comic is a bother. I actually NEEDED such a change and I'm enjoying it. So for the time being, I'm multi-tasking between writing and the comic - one week I write, the next I draw. But I still feel the urge to write more. Maybe I'll just divide the comic into seasons, and give myself some time off every couple of months, which I'll spend on writing exclusively?

Haha, yeah, if I did become super rich, I'd prolly start a studio and/or hire other artists. But since that isn't going to happen, I doubt it. I might stop drawing comics, but unless I'm unable to(health or something), I doubt I'll ever stop drawing.

Absolutely not.

Will I ever stop drawing my current comic at some point?

Yes, because it does have an end. And then when I'm done, I'll create another story. I don't believe in things going on and on unless it's a comical series.

Maybe, but as of now, I need a hobby. I don't plan on making my comic a money making thing or anthing like that, so I would have no real reason to continue drawing it if the time came.

If either these things happen:

1) I die
2) I lose my hands... (maybe artificial hands can do the trick... since I dont really move my fingers when I draw. I move my wrist and my arm)

3) I just lose the will to do any comics for some reason.

*Sigh* I did that weeks ago. I am comic-less until I get a scanner. Even then... I will most likely stop. my drawing is terrible. People will accuse me of plagerism and I will be ridiculed.

At least on the bright side I'll have comfort in the form of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.
