Heh. Yeah, the muscle structure alone would double your body weight.

Not really. you know how Birds manage to fly even when some of the birds clearly have wings that's smaller than their body size, such as Flamingos?

Because their whole bone structure is VERY light, and actually HOLLOW. which of course reduces some of the bodyweight. take on to the fact that their muscles and body mass is very taunt from the constant exercises they have.

Interesting fact: did you know that birds actually eat three times their weight? That's because all the constant flying and exercise they get, often burns up fat in their body fast.

So if Humans managed to gain wings, the one way for them to fly freely without any problems is to have light, hollow bones, be very expertly fit to the point where their body itself is only like 60 pounds or something.

of course the added wings would add a few pounds, but this way it wouldn't be such a psychical impossibility for humans to fly.

Okay! So all we have to do is drill out all of our bone marrow, get rid of some extra organs (like the gallbladder-- freakin' slacker), and we'll be set for takeoff!

This discussion is getting fun...

Not really. you'd just need to find a way to genetically alter your body where you didn't need all that bone marrow (come to think of it, what is it for anyway), and a way to shrink most of our organs.

After that, you're set for wings. no need to do it the painful way. but then again I wonder if being gentically altered hurts....

I'm not exactly sure what it's for, but I'm pretty sure bone marrow is essential to life...

But heck, I say we test all these theories on our oh-so-willing volunteers!

Bone marrow... Doesn’t it help make blood cells and help with your immune system? Or is that the lymph system… Ask Mina Lunga.
But you're missing something here, Birds may have hollow bones, but they still function fine. They've still got marrow and all that, they just don't generally have the thick solid bones needed for being a powerful ground dwelling creature... Humans, birds, rats, fleas, cockroaches, cats, etc all have much the same genetic make-up. We've got most of the same bones and organs in the same places as most animals too, (insects and crustaceans are a bit weird but we’re all related).

Engineering flying people wouldn’t be that way out. You could do it theoretically… But their way of life would have to change so drastically that they couldn’t live with us. How’d the bastards fit through doors, wear shirts etc? They’d be too light and flimsy too. We’d always be breaking the poor buggers. They wouldn’t like powerlines around, or lots of houses or trees that were close together. They'd all want to live on cliff-sides or low housing with little perches.
Oh, so many things to think about!

Makes me think of that one car commercial where there was this house that was actually just on this ledge of the grand crayon or something. this guy comes out, and his wife sees him off.. and then he actually jumps off the ledge, and then glides down using this parachute right to his car.

I thought that was really cool. just replace the parachutes with wings, and you got the ideal living conditions for them.

their houses would have to be VERY spacious too now that I think of it. for the wings and all.

This one time, I totally saw a kid with gopher teeth.

It's already begun.

I say we just strenghthen our minds through this science hybrid mumbo jumbo so that we don't have to worry about wings! We can fly just by thinking it!

Or we discover how to do fusion and attatch a tiny fusion generators to shoes and use THOSE to fly places.

Or learn how to teleport.

That's a good idea... Here's an interesting idea: we can breed a race of super porn stars!!!!!! Men with the penises of elephants! Women with great big cow udder breasts!
Just imagine the horrors that this "Brave new world" could produce.... :smt119

if genetic engineering becomes reality.

there will mostly only be heterosexual boys born into the world, those boys will be overwhelmingly caucasian, in the case of Asians, they will have caucasion eyes, they will be smarter, stronger, taller and faster, posess photographic memories -- and be suicidal and depressed.

That’s because their elephant penises will drain all the blood from their brains.

I know, I saw that once. They were all small and pointie!

They're infiltrating us one at a time! O_O

Yeah. This girl who was in my English class last semester? She has a fang.

Not, like, a full set of fangs, mind you. Just one small, long, perfectly triangular tooth where a regular top left-side canine would be. I'm not even coming close to expressing how freaky it is; I see her every so often nowadays, and while it isn't something you notice immediately, it is still somewhat disconcerting when you're talking to her. I always hope she brings an orange or something to lunch so I can see if she eats the segments or just sucks the juice out.

PS: She also has an unnatural fixation with comedian Dane Cook. Coincidence?

you know, if I couldn't have wings then I wouldn't mind having a supernbrain and the ablity to teleport.
