Who referred the traffic?

My stats show that my comic got 930 pageviews on Sunday, which is a HUGE increase over my average (around 75-ish). I haven't updated in months, so at first I thought it was just an error. Then yesterday I had 430 pageviews, which is still huge for me. Is there any way to track where these hits are coming from? How can I check for referrers? Thanks!

You can put a tracker in your html code. Most people want to read your story and picked up on it. Others may have googled it and stumbled upon it and liked it.

Something like that might end up happening, but you could also head over to extreme tracker (dot com?) and sign up for their little service. If you copy/paste the code they give you onto your html template, you then have a long-term hits and referrer tracker. :)

You might want to do a google search for your comic's name over the next couple of days and see if that doesn't spit back the blog entry or whatever that sent all the hits your way, too.

Thanks for the advice. I did the whole tracker thing and almost immediately saw that I was getting hits from a link on the somethingawful forums that was posted on Sunday--I'm guessing that's what I have to thank for the increased interest. Thanks again for the tracker tip!

Damn, I should have been able to tell you that. I was reading that thread and even clicked to check out the comic. :) For some reason I didn't make the connection when you asked about referrers :)

You got off easy in that thread actually, haha. They're usually quite hard on webcomics. Here's what they said (I'm assuming you can't read the thread because you have to pay to get an account there):

I just recently discovered Drunk Duck and I must say it's quite the embarrassment of riches whether you're looking for comics about a girl with huge cans who can't stop eating, animu + vidyagames, or GRANDPA SEX MACHINE...
(Links to Craving Control, SupahNarioBros, and yours)

And the follow-up to yours:
Truly, this is mankind's greatest achievement.

There probably would have been more comments about yours except people got talking about ridiculous boobs, like any discussion about Craving Control.

Actually, I was able to read the thread, I just can't reply. I was relieved to see that Grandpa wasn't being ripped to pieces. "Mankind's greatest achievement" might be a bit excessive.

That's understandable. I think Dave Sim's Cerebus once said something along the lines of (paraphrased) "There's nothing like a breast the size of your head to make you forget the really important things in life."

Nothing. :) I was making the observation that it seems like on every page, the comments are mostly about boobs. :)

edit: OK, maybe not every page or mostly, but people do like to comment on the boobs. Boob-talk is at least better than the people who can't stop complaining about how they don't think the comic deserves its #1 spot, which is pretty unfortunate.
