Who do your characters sound like?

I was just thinking about this as I posted my latest page. When you write or think of dialog for your characters, do you have a particular voice in mind when you do it?
Or do you just write and not worry about stuff like that. :D

I'm curious. But since I started it, I"ll list a few of mine.

Bear: Sort of a Vin Diesel type of voice, with a lot more personality though. :D

Duncan: Hmmm... Kind of a Steve Buscemi type of voice when I read Duncan. It flucuates though.

Bernard: Very stern and strict, like John Ryhs Davies (or as best known Gimli in the Lord of the Rings movies).

Jasmine: Kate Gosselin (okay, this one is a joke):)

The Moosenator: Well, this one is kind of obvious.

So if anyone else wants to share opinions on their own characters or mine or anyone else's that they read, feel free. I just thought this was kind of a neat topic, so I posted it. :)

It's a Grizzly Bear battling Zombies. Do you need to know more?

Ahab: Glynnis Talken, aka Julies Winters from The Maxx/Kerrigan from Starcraft.

Bagman: Pink Floyd's David Gilmour.

Cassius: The late Barry Stigler (Mr Gone from the Maxx)

Snausage: Jim Cummings (Razoul from Disney's Aladdin.)

"You tell yourself to just
enjoy the process," he added. "That whether you succeed or fail, win or
lose, it will be fine. You pretend to be Zen. You adopt detachment, and

To be honest, I only hear my own voice inside my head when I write.

So they all sound like me... doing different tones/voices.

As my regular readers are probably tired of hearing me say, the voices and speech patterns of nearly all my characters are based on those of real people. Some are based on people I know in real life and some on actors.

The most obviously identifiable one is the demon hunter Arturos whose voice is "borrowed" from Brian Blessed in full on "Voltan King of the Hawkmen" mode. Can you tell them apart? ;-)

This is a fun thread. I'll contribute...

Air Raid Robertson sounds spunky and eternally optimistic to me. Of course, there's also an air of dashing valor and derring-do that is all but oblivious to the concept of danger. I think he may be a mixture of Errol Flynn and Stimpy. (The latter being a silly variation of Larry Fine)

Ridley, on the other hand, is much more deadpan. He's one of those guys who always sounds kind of world weary and sick of all the crap he has to deal with. Ridley sounds a bit like my Dad when he's in my head, but I also get a vibe of the Ron character from "Parks and Recreation".

Fantomah, to me, sounds like the lead singer of a Norweigan black metal band. She's a bit easier to discern than those guys, but it's around the same ballpark.

Ripley sounds stern and proud. Her voice borders on nagging, but it never quite gets there. I think she'd be like Greta Garbo with a more Americanized accent. (If that makes any kind of sense at all)

The Commander also has a deadpan and world-weary type of voice. Because of his position, however, I think he'd have a bit more authority to his tone. He is sick of this crap, but he's also under the impression that he can perhaps do something about it. He's a fusion of John Malkovich with Sam Jackson.

Hmmm, lets see. I often have difficulty thinking up voices for my characters as I can't quite find something that would suit them. I'll just pluck off the main characters and ones that will be introduced soon (and them my favorites) as I have too many characters and naming them all off would take up too much space.

Exile: He obviously would have a very deep voice. I think something a mix between Cole (from inFamous) and Vin Diesel's. Deep and gravely.

Doug: I have no idea. Maybe a higher pitched frat boy voice? A friend of mine imagined him with the voice of Ellis (Left 4 Dead 2) and said it matched him, but when I thought about it, it really didn't. Even without the accent. I'd have to put some more thought into him.

Grievous Reiver: I'd like to think of his voice like the Joker's from those animated Batman cartoons. With a little more hiss and growl to the undertone and maybe a bit higher.

Charlie: He's basically Stephen Colbert with Brock Sampson's personality. So I think he'd sound like a violent and angry Stephen Colbert.

West: Very soft spoken. He's very shy and nice.

Blitz: 'He'd' sound like a mix between Michael Bay's Bumblebee and Wall-E's garbled mechanical sounds when trying to speak English. But when he's talking in his native tongue, he's much more verbose and smooth.

Princess/Queeny: Lady Gaga. Seriously, I can't think of anyone better.

Haven't really paid attention but on a subconscious level, as I write dialog of my characters, here's more or less the types of voices they have.

Here's some of them.

Eman - Similar to my own voice but a bit more depressed and angry.

Claudita - Cute high pitched voice but doesn't sound too innocent. She's sometimes soft-spoken.

Fr. Jose Penafrancia - sounds like an old guy with a "Bisaya" (a Filipino dialect) accent.

Lucia - Seductive and domineering tone of voice.

Kyle - very cynical angry voice. Sounds like somebody with pure total hatred for this world. Read aloud the writings of school shooters. That's exactly how he sounds like.

Rat Demon - deep whispery voice.

Reptoid swordsman - kinda like Cobra Commander.
NOW UPDATING!!!

I've only given thought to how a few of the characters in my comic might sound like, but anyway:

Deimos- Ron Pearlman, in a gravely, maybe slightly raspy, "I've-seen-it-all" sort of tone.

Deimos's nightmare creature- kind of like the Flood Hive Mind from Halo 3, except just a little less deep.

Jeremy- probably like me, except deeper and a lot more stressed-out all the time.

Reynolds- borderline "coonass," with a strong southern accent.

I am not 100% what it would sound like...but probably a bit like German.

That's not really an original name...
go for something like Vastan, or harkian.
Vastar, harking, Vastian, Harkar, Vastaro, Harko, Vast-tongue, Harko-speak.

Anything but Harkovastian...

My characters all sound like me, only speaking with a twisted voice. they speak No Heroian and that sounds kindof like german! :3

Cool thread.

The most obvious voice in Fusion is the interdimensional entity named Penelope. And why is she named Penelope? Because, as Harold explains, "She sounds like Penelope Cruz."

For Bob, I always hear a voice like Plankton from Spongebob.

Brooder, Kevin Conroy (of course).

Captain Stupendous, Will Smith.

There are others, but those are the famous ones that come to mind.

I imagine all my characters, from Ryu's Krew, and from every other comic of mine, would sound exactly like Nathan Explosion from Dethklok.

:D

Hahaha. Just kidding.
But in all seriousness, only counting Ryu's Krew, of course, here's who I'd imagine, or rather, how they would sound:

Ryu: He has a regular kinda man voice, not too deep, and not too high, possibly like Throttle of the Biker Mice from Mars? I think the guy who voiced him would be pretty good.

Archound: This one is easy. Or maybe not. His voice is rather deep, a little growly. But not like death metal growly. I imagine David Hayter would suit the role perfectly. lol

Draycho: Razor from the Swat Kats. I just think it'd fit.

No way! O_O
There are so many cool guys with deep gravely voices that would be perfect for bear! (can't think of names right now). But Vin???? That characterless meat-head? Noooooooooooo D:
Bear is WAY cooler and more awesome than that joke. >:[

Awesome. :)

Pinky TA

Pinky:
She speaks strongly accented English...
I think I could pick Xenia Seaborg (LEXX) for her speaking voice maybe...? Maybe Franke Protente? (Run Lola Run). I like the way the German accent sounds in English, so even though she has a Slavic origin, those two would be cool.

Cc:
She can be snappish and harsh sounding quite a bit... And often dull and unemotional too. Eva Haberman (LEXX) has that sort of sound. Again, that's a German accented English.

Ace Kinkaid:
He's American... But which American accent? There are so many!
NOT the southern drawl... he's too smart, quick and devious for that and that accent suggests a slower way of thinking and naivete (suggests only- not means). I don't want him having a more aristocratic American accent either (New England or something), nor city accents.
So maybe something generic and broadly representative like Harrison Ford? I dunno, I'd need suggestions :(

I usually spend a lot of time picking theme music for ED. Mostly just because I like music and singing along with it. Anyhow, lets see here.

Teresa:
I always picture her voice as being a bit like Jewels speaking voice not too light not too deep just a nice inviting timbre that automatically can put a person at ease. Teresa has a slight New York accent though she's getting a bit muddled now that she's been in the British Isles for a bit.

Laura:
Eliza Dushku. Seriously, especially when she gets all growly. And also because it hasn't happened yet she says the word Sandwich funny (sammich). Also when she says "R" (by itself) it comes out more like "R-ah". Though she's been in Britain longer than Teresa she's only picked using the slang, and still retains a midwestern accent.

Nikki: Sounds and sings like Elizabeth Elmore, she likes to sing with a flatter American accent and she's constantly being told to try to "Brit" it up a bit. She's from the London and has a very proper sounding British accent. It's all the fault of that boarding school she went to.

Liam: He's Irish, and so is his accent. Thanks to T.V though his dialect isn't too hard to understand. He's the oldest guy in the group and to me I just always picture Irish Christopher Eccleston. Kind of insane sounding when he's angry and squeaky when he panics a bit.

Rascal: She sounds like Billie Piper, sadly most of the time you can't hear it cause she can only speak in whispers. So whispering Billie Piper works. Think Billie piper when she was cast as Rose from Dr. Who. Very thick chavy accent. She's a bit ghetto and fabulous all at the same time.

Aleksandra: she hasn't said a dang thing in the comic yet. But when she does, her accent is very thick and obviously some sort of Slavic. Her voice is hard to place for me cause I generally can't think of anyone but a friend who sounds like her off the top of my head. But voice sounds more like Regina Spektor's singing voice. Husky and soft and it kind of whispers out sometimes.

Pigeon: Sounds like John Leguizamo. Not much is known about the mysterious pigeon. But he does like crackers and has a bit of a fowl mouth. Get it fowl mouth? Yes I know that was not funny. -_-*

I'd mention what the three male Werewolves sounds like but since I haven't told anyone their names it would just confuse the heck out of everyone.

eh, never gave tons of thought to it.

Bones: probably somethin kinda like a cross between ex-Razor singer Sheepdog and beetlejuice.

Puke: kinda like a low, real gravly clint eastwood type of voice.

Jack: probably some kinda british accent, real slimey soundin though.

Charlette: yer 70 year old vegas granny who's been smoking since she was 5.

Exis:real sharky politicain. you wont hear him yelling really. relaxed, even toned voice.

So awesome! The voice acting sounds really pro. O_O I wish I had the patience/time to do that! XD

This is a pretty interesting thread. I've never really thought about the voices of my characters too much, but I kind of have an idea in my mind of how I'd imagine they'd sound.

For some of the main characters:

James - I think he'd have a sort of low, drowsy type of voice. I think his speech would be interrupted occasionally by a smoker's cough. XD

Ophelia - I think she'd have a raspy voice, and a really loungey-type jazz singing voice.

Parker - I imagine him having a very NYC accent. :D

Quinn - A very preppy, snooty voice. Like one of those typical Ivy League I-know-everything type of voices.

Marcello - Deep voice, with a strange mixed accent, part NYC, part Italian. A scary, nearly monotone voice.

Voices are hard, especially since I don't tend to really think about it as much as appearance... There are some characters that I have actors and actresses picked out for, but I'm still unsure about a couple... I'll give it a shot.

Scarlett- Sort of sounds like Joan/Christina Hendricks from Mad Men. Sexy, sultry but a little bitchy.

Laurie- Goofy, cute female voice. A little deep, though. A girlier version of Zooey Deschanel and probably a lot less monotoned.

Guy- Deep voice, manly. Jon Hamm, mostly. Perhaps a little less confident sounding.

Matty- This one is hard, I can't really think of anyone. He does the whispery voice thing that Alec Baldwin does on 30 Rock a lot, so he's probably the closest.

Artie- Mac guy (though I'm a PC myself, lol),Justin Long . He's just about right, voice wise and appearance is pretty spot on as well.

Eonous- John Krasinski. That's pretty much just him in all completeness.

Seva- Think Scar from The Lion King, maybe a little younger sounding.

Demon Eater is told in kinda the same fashion as Benjamin Button or Forest Gump (The man character narrates his entire life). Saturno wouldn't have a southern American accent though. I always imagine a calm and soothing voice for Saturno as if the devil is tempting you.

With Planet Closest to Heaven...

Scout: Deeper voice. Can sing base.

Nameless(human): Less deep male voice. Tenor singer.

Pepe(as an animal): The voice of Kenny from South Park. Hardly recognizable.
