There is no "face the reality" FAQ here in DD and I haven't really found out what is a reasonable amount of readers to hope for. Or just how large is the network here.

For example, I've been here for five days and have an average of ~200 daily readers, biggest single day being ~400.
I'm I lacking on ads or should I be thankful?

If you're getting about 200 pageviews a day so early on, consider yourself lucky. Anything over 20 is a good day for me.

My average is about 32 now, biggest day was 220. But I've been around for a bit. When I was starting out 10 was about my average.

I average around 180 a day and I'm not even in the top 100 (To my knowledge, the ranks haven't changed for over a week now). I'd say mine is slightly above average, so you're doing well.

So the order in the search machine is based on all time viewers, not daily average?
But isn't that kinda silly... it'll only show the top comics and then really old ones that way -_o

Actually, no. I'm pretty sure it's based around hits in the past 7 days, in order to allow some rotation between the popular comics.

That's a great average, IMO...

When I started, I got 10 to 60 hits per day, several 0 days too. After three months here, I was getting 70 to 100 hits.

Currently -- been here 6 months updating daily, I usually get 100 to 300 hits per day (this is after I joined all the top lists and even ran ads a couple times). I'm happy to have readers. I like sharing my comic. :) Before DD, my only "readers" were my two roommates (and I bounce ideas off them, so they're never surprised).

I also spent months getting 0 comments. Now I get at least one a day, so that makes me smile. It's nice to know you're not playing to an empty auditorium. Once I'm assured that there's at least one person watching, the numbers don't matter to me. (Though it is fun to see big numbers.) ;)

I get excited over just having one comment... :(

I think what helps the most is you have friends who like your doodles and if you post around the forums with a link in your sig.

I get a modest amount of hits considering my newb-ness.

To be blunt it all depends on the quality of your comic. So then what makes a good comic?

The most important is the artwork, if your art is less then mediocre or even in a style someone doesn't care for (ex: if someone likes a realistic style over a cartoon style) they won't even bother looking at it.
Runosonta, your comic has very good appealing and distinctive art, so people are more prone to check your stuff out. You will have more then the average number of page views, simply because of this.

However to tell if you've got readers coming back I'd base that on the consistent number of hits your comic receives after it as posted keeping in mind how many comments you receive per page. Generally if you receive over 5 comments per page you are a fairly popular comic with a steady readership. But looking at your comic it's safe to say you’re in the top half of drunk duck if not the top 25%.

I've reached #229 in Comic Book and 120+ comments (though some of them mine) during these nine days, guess I should be pleased. But that's mainly because I update up to nine pages a day ;D


By the way; is there a way to actually see the new comments? Not just the latest? It's a pest to go chacing them around... say with a 100+ pages comic?

Well steal my socks and call me a pineapple! That's just nasty.. I've left dozens of comments in the first twenty pages of many 100+ comics. And they will NEVER even notice them? Dang :(

They might. The DD Alerter thing lets people know when a comment is left, so they can check it out and even go back over the pages that were read. I know I do it because I get new readers looking into my archives. (Mostly because I didn't get many new readers when my art was pathetic and developing.)

Technically, it also lets you know when DD goes down. When it says you don't exist, don't expect this site to work.

I've seen a comment on one of my pages disappear. I don't see a delete message button for them "would be nice when I typo". Maybe they have their accounts deleted? Or they ask for the comment to be removed?

You're doing incredible for a new face, trust me. :-D I think I got 70 views on my first day from uploading the first 5 crappy pages of Nadya.

An average day for me is around 200 - 400. Back when I updated regularly I averaged around 1000+ a day -- that was after about 2 months of being here. You're doing amazingly for how long you've been here. I would, however, suggest you cut back a little on the updating. If you spread them out a little you'll have more of a cushion to fall back on if you hit an artists/writers block (that's sort of what killed ApL =P).

Keep comicking man -- people seem to like your stuff.

It's got nothing to do with quality either way, and everything to do with promoting. But I didn't/don't promote.

As soon as I loaded up the first page, page views started accumulating. It's not like I advertise anywhere. And my first commenter wasn't even someone who Friended me so I don't see how he could've gotten an alert. I didn't even have time to upload my forum banners yet so that couldn't have been it, so... What the heck?

BTW, is there a general Drunkduck banner I can download? I frequent some other forums and I thought of (just now, jesus I'm slow) doing my part to passively promote this site.

Runosonta, that's very good,man! When I first started my comic I got very little views. The third day my comic was up I got 10 views (The DrunkDuck record! haha), after being featured I got thousands a day. For me they fluctuate quite a bit, but I don't pay much attention to them now...

miai: I found your comic through your forum signature. When a comic is updated it appears in "recently updated stories" I think that's when most people notices it!

Yeah... My comic has been around for a year, and my best day was 480. (My comic isn't that popular, but that's really not the reason why I'm in DD, so it doesn't matter to me)

So, you're doing a great job with fame. Keep it up and you will get more people reading your comic :)

Lucky bastid. : D But here's a question for all of you: Why does the amount of readers per day always count by tens? There's always a zero at the end O_o

Quick question - does "pageviews" mean the number of times individual pages were looked at or the comic as a whole. In other words, if somebody reads, say, 10 pages of a comic, does that show as one pageview or ten?

This kinda makes a big difference for me because I just uploaded 22 pages at once, obviously.
