As long as it has decent art, no vampires, and a main character who isn't the tortured 'baawww me r orphan bawww' i'll read it.

Gore.
Ditto. Plenty of the red stuff. Among the classic horror monsters, werewolves are the brutes of the bunch.
(and why aren't there more stories about female werewolves?)

I agree with everything on here, but if there's romance without the nudity then I can do without the romance.

CGCrimson ModeI'd like this to be seconded so a formal contract with this ideal may be discussed.

The Red Stuff. Blood, Gore, Etc.
I refuse to read a toned down supernatural/horror story, especially involving Werewolves. This is just me though :P

You should above all things make sure your characters are really good, develop them before illustrating them. I have seen many what could have been a good comic be a dissapointment due to the characters, although with a dramatic past, too two-dimensional. Make them individuals, not just the same back-story used by all teh other stories.
Oh, and tons of violence. Like, the character stumbles into a military base, turns, and starts the slaughter.
Ah yes, make sure to stick to the traditional boundries and strengths of the old-fashioned were-wolf, please don't make this turn out like twilight...he turns in the middle of the day? And not into a were-wolf, no, but into a actual wolf, like the size of a truck? And he still retained his human thought in his wolf-form, he should have gone feral when he changed! And changing at his own will? Arh, twilight! I will have my revenge for the classic literature you have spoiled for me!

Make sure to NOT radically change the mythology of werewolves. And no vampires, or vampire/human romance. Bleh.

Definitely no vampires. Remember, the classic werewolf story is about a person struggling with an all-consuming curse. In my opinion, the best werewolf story is when the man/woman who is the werewolf does not in fact enjoy the fact...and is slowly being chipped away by the guilt of murdering other human beings against their human will.
HOWEVER, if you want to go with an evil werewolf route...have him or her pursue someone obsessively. At any rate, it's your comic. Just write something you love.

Go classic!
The Rammstein video of Du riechst so gut (second vid), has a lovely and interesting take on the classic werewolf scenario. Reminds me of Brotherhood of the Wolf- if that HAD actually featured real werewolves and was actually a good film...
Remember, classic werewolves are humans that completely change into wolves, NOT wolf-men. Wolf-men are an early Hollywood invention based on the fact that they couldn't get real wolves to act and there was only so much you could do with make-up and costumes at the time.

Hmm. I work on one called Oddewulf as sort of a side project over on SmackJeeves, so I had to consider this, too. I guess...I settled for trying to have a main character who, while suffering, isn't emo and is actually likable. Not sure if I succeeded. Hmm...oh, and I also wanted to do something original with the storyline. There's so many different things you could do with werewolves that just aren't in movies and comics as they stand today.
Then again, there are some things done with werewolves that really shouldn't have been...
Actually, I think that you might be better off with a list of things NOT to do in a werewolf comic, as it's usually that which kills the story.

I need to see some spine punch-outs, intense gore, and lots of roaring. I do not mind a giant sized actual wolf that has the mind of a man but the uncontrollable urges of the beast.
Throats should be ripped out, people should continually wake up naked in the woods, and if you do make a female werewolf make her full of badassery!
Werewolf folklore in western culture is riddled with weird stuff like Franciscan Monk werewolves, Wolf straps etc. Nevertheless, you can also check out some of the African and Native American ideas of werewolves (skin walkers) who retain their minds very much so but are usually entirely evil.
However, no vampires, seriously I have even gone to the point of excluding them from having any type of main role in my comic (which is werewolf riddled) Stephanie Myer and her misogynistic Mary Sue of a series has killed the vampire genre. Underworld part 4 will make everything better though, just like Rise of the Lycans helped when the first movie came out.

A werewolf comic? Wonderful, never wanted to do it myself but always would have liked to see one.. A good one, That means NO VAMPIRES.
Thats just a start.
I know im new here, but i do kinda know what im talking about. Alright, real Gore is important, No Butt F'ing werewolves like Twilight. Clans can be good and bad, There defiently should be romance, but only to a extent. Maybe a Werewolfs friend gets killed (werefolf that is alive, Male, Female DEAD.) So that could spark a good beginning or Sidestory, i think it would do better as secondary charecter Side Story as the main storyline should have many facts.

Good Writing
I know that's vague, but you need to make the story work.
I'd say don't pull back on gore or adult themes, but do not make it excessive if you want a good story and not just mindless candy.
I like werewolf mythology, but when its done poorly it saddens me very much

Personally, I like my werewolves to have human intelligence and I don't like to see all of them just frothing at the mouth insane. They don't have to rescue babies or anything, but I think variety in personality is cool. If you're familiar with "The Wolf's Hour" that's one of my favorite styles. Brutal, real, instinctual, but intelligent...visceral.

Madness. Lots and lots of madness. It's an agonizing curse. But for some reason this also made me think of that movie Martin by George Romero, the one where you're never really sure if the main character really is a vampire or not. I know this is about werewolves, I'm just using it as an example. Anyway, the guy acts like a vampire, attacks people for their blood, etc, but it could just be a case of a guy being crazy and just believing he's a vampire and acting as such. You're never really sure if he's the real deal or not, but it doesn't really matter, because in the end he's committing the horrible acts anyway, so he might as well be.
Here's another thing: A long time ago I read something about wolves and werewolves. During new moons is when wolves act their craziest, because there is no moon in the sky and therefore it's darker and they get paranoid and especially vicious. Therefore there were some people who believed that people with the were-curse were more likely to turn into the beasts during the new moon, brought about by increased paranoia and madness. During full moons is when the wolves are more relaxed and 'collected', which is why they sing/howl to it.
