Harkovast, I love talking animals :) I think Last Of The Wilds kind of shows that, actually, so I'm now stating the obvious, but still!

Bad art and poor lettering turns me off mostly. Although art is a subject to opinion you can see when someone does not quite "get it".
Lettering can make or break a comic as its a vital part of the comic itself. You have to read up on how to do lettering it'll only help your comic.

20. Bad art.
I'm usually okay with bad art in a strip format as long as the dialogue is done well.
But If it's not in strip format, how can the artist create a decent panel layout if they can't draw anything else?
It's also difficult to feel the power of the story if there isn't good artwork to help it flow from one panel to the other.

If a list goes on too long, especially over several pages, it really loses all its impact so any comic with one of these is out of the question!

Hey, you already said enough when you said you dislike manga.
Even though my comics are all gonna be kind of hybrid-looking, my main two are more likely to be classed as it.

What turns me off right away are:
1. Comics where the main character has stupid hair. Especially a totally unnatural colour! Hair is black, brown, blonde, ginger, grey or white, nothing else.
2. The lead character has a stupid name, that's obviously not a real name. Characters should have PROPER NAMES! Grrrr.
3. Comics about war and fighting all the time. War is depressing and I don't want to think about it.
4. comics where the lead character is always showing off her sexy body and wonderful buttocks. How crude, lazy, perverted and sick!!!!!!!
5. Comics that take over a month to update. How fricken lazy is that? If it takes you that long maybe you should just give up your comic and do something else? Making ME wait that long to read the next page is offensive! I will unfave your comic and wish cancer on your entire family.
6. Digital colour comics. Seriously, how lazy can you get? Use a damn brush and ink or pencil or something natural instead. Faker.
7. Comics by anyone called Michael. Michael is a weird name, anyone with that name is obviously not to be trusted.

No ones comments are directed at anyone in particular.
Anyway, what really puts me off is anthropomorphic fantasy comics where cats haves swords and live in a made up fantasy land. That really bothers me.

Oh, jeez. I just remembered this one. It doesn't apply to any of the comics here, but when you have to read them via flash viewers. You know, like the zooming in, the page loading, I hate that. Why can't they just have a regular, non complicated set up?

And then there's the whole fact that some scenes would be better animated than in comics.
Like if a character was in a band or something. Comics are visual. You can't have music in print or JPGs.

I don't mind if they do something innovative and fun, but that's just too bothersome to scroll around a big comic page. Not only that, but the pages take too long to load a most of the time. I'd rather it be simple instead of too over the top, then I just get frustrated.
Innovation is fine when it isn't cumbersome.

I'll toss off a few of mine in a numbered list...
1. Bad panel layout - I know some people feel the need to escape the typical nine panel grid. That's fine, but it's often taken too far. A lot of people forget that comics is a storytelling medium. If I look at a page and wonder what order I'm supposed to read the panels in the artist needs to rethink their approach.
2. Cut-and-paste art - There are a metric ton of comics where the "artist" just takes some stock heads and bodies from a folder on their computer and just shoves them on a page endlessly. It's lazy, obvious, and supremely annoying.
3. Walls of text - It can be tough finding the best osmosis between visuals and exposition. Some webcomics don't even bother though. Word balloons are supposed to hold a couple of sentences, not a couple of paragraphs.
4. Western artists attempting to draw in a manga style - This is almost as bad as cut-and-paste stuff. Incorporating Japanese influences into one's art can be a good thing, but copying the house style of Clamp studios is just silly.
5. People taking established comics and replacing the original script with "funny" dialogue - Yeah, you're making Spider-Man say "boobies". Hooray.

Just off the top of my head...
1) Comics that look incredibly 'unprofessional'. That is, comics where there's more white un-cropped area then comic, where it's so big (or small) you can't see what's happening, etc. Art isn't a huge issue for me (as long as I can understand what's happening), but if it's a pain in the ass to read I don't see why I should even bother.
2) a)Comics where the only plot is 'Romance!!1'. Unless they have something else going on in the background then I'm not going to be a huge fan. It just gets monotonous and a lot of people don't know where to stop.
b) (Badly done) Yaoi/Yuri comics. I'm not gay or a lesbian, but it always really bothers me when I read comics where alternative sexualities are handled badly. Usually this isn't a 'straight away' as in first page, but a 'straight away' as in 'as soon as I notice it'.
3) The manga style where you can tell they learned how to draw from a 'How to draw anime!' book, or, for that matter, a lot of anime-ish styles. It doesn't always scare me off, but it's a pretty big 'Don't read this' check mark. I like some manga, but the chances are the people that do manga webcomics are just going to produce a cookie cutter of Inuyasha or whatever popular anime/manga they like.
Though, to be honest, there's exceptions to most everything. If there's something about a comic that stands out as really good, I'd probably be able to bare the really bad. For a while at least.

Things that turn me off....
poorly drawn art. If its not nice to look at im not going to bother with it.
Lack of plot/interesting characters. If there's nothing interesting going on or there is no interesting characters I'm done.
Overly sexualized/skanky characters. not my thing, i find it crude, unnecessary and a waste of my time.
Characters who auto-magically get super powers turned into magical beings and get sent off to school...or school comics in general.
I like manga styled comics, but i am not interested in yaoi/yuri comics (which seem to be the majority). It just seems like useless fan service and i dont get it.

Comics with bizare stylistic choices. Like when half the characters have ears the size of basketballs or when each eye is a different size for no disernable reason. Basically when it's obvious that a character defining feature is a leftover from when the artist was just starting out and looks completley out of place.

if i don't like, or i can't follow the the story, i won't read it. that's the long and short of it.
i understand that almost all of us don't make shit doing this hobby, so updates can sometimes be infrequent. so that doesn't bother me. but for some of the bigger "popular" web comics that have "lazy days" or "sick days".....this is ALL they do for a living is draw 3 pages of comic a week, and they can't meet their own pre-established deadlines of 3 pages when it is what they get paid to do? this is why i stopped reading "megatokyo" 5 years ago.
i'll give most any comic the "15 page read" chance, but if i don't like where it is going or it seems overly thrown together, i'll bail.
