When I did a comic, my main influence were things like Rurouni Kenshin (major) and others like Hellsing.
These days if I were doing a comic I'd try to concentrate on elements of storytelling that make comics like Ex Machina, Watchmen, and Berserk good. Basically this means having believable characters in believable worlds with different personalities, and have generally interesting conflicts. It takes a kind of skill in writing that I haven't yet developed.
Oh yeah, and I'd probably go with a less anime-style, a la Berserk. Anime style is just sooo cliche...

That's Go Nagai, right? His stuff is weird, but he has a neat style. Not a big fan of fanservice, ironically.

...uh.....actually I can't think of any specific animes that really inspired Vampire Phantasm....movies and other shows yes but....
....maybe Akira a LITTLE bit....
...and I'd say I got some inspiration from the Gunnm mangas.
That Sailor Moon video is so nostalgic. XD

For me its probably the Devilman OVA from the early 90s and Zenki.
Non-anime but still a cartoon would be Gargoyles.

Originally RG Veda greatly inspired my art style for Mixed Myth. Not that anyone could tell, as my art skills were not exactly up to par back then. Needless to say, it very quickly broke off and coeleced into its own art style. Regardless, I still like RG Veda. It's probably the only CLAMP piece I actually do care for.
Other animes that I find inspirational. Hmm...
Trigun
Cowboy Bebop
Fantastic Children
Hayaou Miyazaki's works
The Cat Returns
Grave of the Fireflies
Ghost in the Shell: SAC
Read or Die

Dragon Warrior TV series (Dragonquest in Jpn) first got me into drawing an anime style (Akira Toriyama, in this case). I grew beyond it when I started trying to draw more "realistic" like American comics, when in college.

Anime style is just sooo cliche...
oh really? I say realism is cliche. what what?
anyway, my inspirations: Naruto, FMA, Avatar (doesn't *quite* count but...) and Evangelion.
I'm trying not to be influenced by Gravitation... (but I love ittt!)

Realism may not be the most original thing in the world, but super-realism is a testament to how well human beings can visually represent the world around them. Once super realism is reached then you can simplify down. But if you start simple it's much harder to work up.
I'm not saying we should all do super realism, but we should at least learn it. And yeah, I've gotten a bit jaded with the kinds of anime styles people do and then think they can draw amazingly even though that's all they're doing.
But I don't really want to get into this.
