Lately this past year I've been listening to Minnesota Public Radio, webcomic podcasts and audio books.
Despite how much I like listening to music while working my tastes switch fast. A worn out song can be disruptive.
I did like some Lady Gaga, Owlcity, and Groove Coverage.

Lady Gaga, Owlcity
I quite dislike this music. Especially owl city's fireflies. I hate his voice.
But I usually listen to MGMT. Their new album came out on the 9th so I've been listening to that.

This reminds me, I should start listening to podcasts while I draw or something. Whenever I listen to music/tv, I end up getting bored because I've heard it all before, you know?

I tend to listen to epic metal whenever I'm doing artwork. Rhapsody of Fire, Kamelot, Dragonland, Sonata Artica, Nightwish, and so on. The more dramatic it is, the more likely I'll listen to it on repeat. There's nothing quite like listening to some guy screaming about killing a dragon on a flying unicorn when drawing a character getting the mail.

Aurora Borealis
I just listen to any music I have in my playlist. Currently:
Versailles
Angelspit
Terrordrome II compilation
Go!Go! 7188
Ken Ishii
Massive Attack (the Mezzanine album)
OOIOO
Plaid
Polygon Window (Aphex Twin's old project)
Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble of Shadows
Gogol Bordello
Noir Fleurir
Little Boots <--- currently playing :D
Einsturzende Neubauten
Ministry
and few others...
recent stuff: I was going through a bunch of hardcore/gabber compilations and a pile of old Aphex Twin releases, before that it was a stack of old Marilyn Manson albums, Korn etc. basically nostalgia ride (stuff I liked in the 1995-2005 period)
sometimes during drawing I listen to podcasts, mostly to Indie Spinner Rack.
Oh my god, I don't think I've met anyone else who liked Gogol Bordello AND Einsturzende Neubauten. Just wanted to let you know, you rock.
Anyway, back to the topic at hand. I don't really listen to music when I draw, I watch movies. Usually horror. In fact...I was thinking about having a Nightmare on Elm Street marathon tonight and pumping out a few pages.

I (Garcia of the Garcia/Reynolds team) listen to a lot of Jay-z, and Lupe Fiasco, but when I really need some motivation I throw on Coheed and Cambria and it keeps me in the mood, but I usually listen to Opie and Anthony and Ron and Fez (Sirus/Xm)
I know my partner listens to the Beatles, and Notorious BIG as well as wu-tang clan.

I switch the type of music I play to whatever I think the characters I'm writing would enjoy listening too. It helps keep me in the mood for writing the scene because I'm easily distracted.
For example, currently I'm listening to loads of Wu Tang Clan and Rage Against the Machine. It gets awkward when I play songs that I don't usually listen too though...

I usually listen to all type of sub-genres of Metal depending on my mood and what kind of feel I want to give my pages. If I'm going to change from Metal, it's going to be either Anime soundtracks or Video Game music. And times, I'd listen to something relaxing like today I was listening to Shlomit Levi... a brilliant singer from Israel. She has an outstanding voice.
Even though, the current page looks nothing relaxing in it.

I usually like hearing 'good' music.
It mean music that have unique and peaceful feeling.
I hate Idol's music that only sing craps selling their faces and bodies to be
popular.
I consider them as dancer or entertainer, not singer.
Here are my favorite...
This one's the theme song of one of my comic I've translated,Pink Lady

During the thought process, I usually listen to technical metal (Between the Buried and Me, The Red Chord, The Number Twelve looks like you, etc). Their constantly changing time frames and general intensity are challenging to follow and therefore greatly stimulating.
During the actual drawing, I always listen to hip hop. Good stuff. Usually Aesop Rock and Del the Funky Homosapian.
