I remember a topic like this being on Bark it, not sure if there's something like it on here. Anyway, I like to listen to different types of music to get me inspired and help design pages, pace the story and scenes.
Here's a couple:
1. DMX feat. Busta Rhymes - Come Thru
2. Damian Valentine - Gonna Go
3. Papa Roach - Between Angels And Insects
4. Bizzy Bone - Hollywood
5. Danny Elfman - The little things
6. Roy Brown - Butcher Pete (Great for a twisted horror mood)
7. Royce Da 5'9 - Gun Harmonizing
8. Teddy Pendegrass - Love T.K.O.
9. DMX - Stop Being Greedy (The beat is like a Matrix Symphony for me)

When I play music when I draw it doesn't really stimulate the creative process but gets me in the mood to do some actual work.
3 Inches of Blood, Judas Priest, Metallica, Dio, Godsmack, Nightwish and, Disturbed (the Believe album).

at 3:06PM, March 22, 2010
I listen to a lot of Ennio Morricone while I'm working on Air Raid Robertson. To be more particular I tend to favor the scores to "A Few Dollars More" and "Il Mio Nome E' Nessuno.
Classical music is a common fixture of my art sessions. I steer towards Russian composers such as Mussorgsky and Tchaikovsky. I also dig Beethoven and Ravel. My favorite conductor is Eugene Ormandy and my favorite performer is Yo-Yo Ma. Yes, they're both very popular choices, but I think that's because they're the best.
I'm also really fond of playing Frank Zappa while drawing comics. I usually lean towards his instrumental records while drawing, especially Hot Rats, Waka/Jawaka, and the Jean-Luc Ponty album he produced. (King Kong)
James Brown is one of my favorite musicians of all and I usually play a lot of his music while putting my panels together. I like a lot of his stuff, but my favorite material is the stuff he recorded in the early 70's with Bootsy and Catfish Collins.
Some of my desert island bands include Black Sabbath, The Talking Heads, The Clash, Devo, Radiohead, Metallica, and The Ramones. All of them pop up in my artwork playlists pretty often.
Jazz is a frequent companion to long drawing binges of mine. My preferences in that category include Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Fela Kuti, John Coltrane, Louis Armstrong, Maynard Ferguson, John McLaughlin, Weather Report, and Duke Ellington.
A list of my musical preferences while drawing would not be complete without mentioning the sprawling back catalog of George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic. I have more P-Funk records than anything else and I can listen to them constantly without getting sick of them. While drawing comics I frequently spin Let's Take it to the Stage, Standing on the Verge of Getting It On, and Live...And Kickin'. Eddie Hazel's excellent solo album Game, Dames, and Guitar Thangs is also in my rotation pretty often.
I play a whole hell of a lot of music while I'm working on my comics, but that covers the bare bones basics of the matter...

I love listening to music when I draw! I have to be listening to *something* when I work, because then I get distracted.
I like sooo many types of music from lots of countries and time periods, and there's not really a specific type that I put on for drawing. But, my latest craze has been Japanese music from the early- and mid-Showa era, especially Hibari Misora, The Peanuts, Pinky and the Killers, Golden Half, Yamaguchi Momoe, and Akiko Nakamura. I especially love this song by Pinky and the Killers.

Well, for each comic, I try to change it with the sort of music that inspires each one (not counting the one about toast and cheese...thats' not really music inspired)
For Ryu's Krew, it's mostly metal/rock, in that genre. Mostly the heavier stuff. I tend to dig some Amon Amarth, with their nice melodies, and lyrics about Vikings. Viking Metal. Yeaaah! From them, specifically, "Twilight of the Thunder God," and "Tattered Banners and Bloody Flags." I can also dig some Mastodon, or Dethklok. I generally try to stay within those 3 bands, mostly because I don't like many other metal bands or anything.
And the only other comic I can think of that's really inspired by music, would be Rob N' Steve, which is a working title. And since it takes place in the future, you can guess that it's really about techno here. Sadly, I'm not sure how techno will REALLY inspire this, seeing as the only time I can listen to it is when I'm coloring (I'll be drawing it in school), but I'd tend to lean more towards Daft Punk, and the Prodigy, most likely. And if I happen to get sick of that, I can always do some Drum N' Bass.

Nice to see some folks with similar tastes.
For me, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Iron Maiden, Metallica, After Forever, Nightwish, and Manowar are in frequent rotation (along with other prog and prog-metal bands). Also like to listen to film soundtracks (Star Wars, Indy, Avatar, and numerous others) as well as Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. (Air Raid Robertson--I'm gonna have to get out my Best of Ennio Morricone CD, now that you mentioned him. And, yeah, the stuff from For a Few Dollars More--which is also my favorite Western--is some of my favorite work of his.) If I'm in a goofy mood, I'll pop in some Edguy.
I also enjoy Beethoven, Berlioz, and Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade.

I leave my TV or put in DVD's on when I draw. Mostly light, humorous stuff like Get Smart, Barney Miller, Lupin III. At times, I'll pause it to help reference simple things like the back of a head or the way clothing fits, but usually, it's my background noise. I don't listen to much music. Guess I'm weird.

For me, 90's pop (rather the nostalgia that accompanies 90's pop) is really fun to listen to while working. Even when it totally doesn't fit the mood.
Angst filled moments go great with *NSYNC, you don't even know.

I can't work unless I have something to take most of the focus of my brain... Art for me takes so little attention that if their isn't something interesting enough for me to think about then I get distracted and go on to do something else. I need a lot of mental stimulation to keep going.
Music is not often enough unless it's really distracting- so it has to be really interesting, or just attention grabbing. Loud rock can work for a while, but as soon as it becomes part of the background I'm buggered. :(
What's best for me is listening to a really good radio play, or watching a cool DVD on the other monitor. I bought the full set of the Farscape series the other day to for my new drawing distraction. :)

I actually enjoyed listening to this. The eminem sample seemed out of place though.. maybe if he was screaming.
I have a confession...I was listening to Tik Tok when I writing a scene in this script lol. I don't listen to a lot of Japanese Pop but I started getting into it after playing Jet Set Future and as much as I hate to admit it, I've been listening to some oldies after playing Fallout 3 and the Saboteur. It actually calms me.

Just a few I can name off the top of my head:
Cry of the Banshee- Brocas Helm, especially when I'm scripting a one-on-one fighting scene.
The Mirror's Truth- In Flames; if All Saints were ever made into a t.v. series, this would just have to be the opening theme.
Serpent's Embrace- Agathodaimon
Her Ghost in the Fog- Cradle of Filth
Realm of Ancient Shadows- Destroy Destroy Destroy
I Could Care Less- Devildriver
Superbeast- Robzombie
Claw the Clouds- Satariel
Voyage of Gurdijeff- Therion

Sketching- Radiohead, REM, They Might Be Giants, Weezer
Inking- Billy Joel, Dresden Dolls, Cold War Kids (Any music with piano in it that isn't straight up piano music works, for some reason.)
Colouring- Flogging Molly, Dropkick Murphys, Young Dubliners, the Levellers, the Pogues (Irish Punk keeps me really energised, which I need when I colour)

Something I've realized is that video game music keeps me working on the page. It's a weird thing, really.
But since I've figured that out, I've just been listening to tons of video game soundtracks, and even some remixes.
Jet Set Radio Future OST (Techno, and some hip-hop)
MADWORLD OST (Dark hip-hop)
Super Mario Bros OSTs (various ones)
No More Heroes OST
Metal Gear Solid OST
Donkey Kong Country 2 OST (probably my favorite, besides JSRF)
But my new all time favorite soundtrack would be the remix that OverClocked did for Donkey Kong Country 2. It's called, Donkey Kong Country 2: Serious Monkey Business.
I highly recommend you look it up if your into that sort of thing, it's just so amazing. I had goosebumps listening to it.

For Clockwork Atrium, I actually made a playlist of about 65 songs that have a mood that fit the comic (see: dramatic and loud). There's not really much specificity to what goes in the playlist other than that.
Artists range from Dope Stars Inc. and Subway to Sally , to E-Type and Morning Musume .
BTRN, I'll just listen to anything, usually whatever song I'm obsessed with at the moment, or a favourite radio show. I don't really know why there's the disparity, except for the fact that I'm actually trying with CA haha.
I absolutely have to have some kind of background music when I draw. The sound of the pencil scraping on the paper will drive me insane otherwise.
