HI guys, at the moment I do my comics with pen and paper before scanning them - pretty simple eh. But I got a bit of money for christmas and I am looking to buy some graphics software to improve my artwork.
Bearing in mind I know pretty much nothing about computers (hence the reason i am you good folks) I will be teaching myself how to use the software. So I will probably need something easily accesable and easy to learn from.
I've heard of photoshop but there seems to be lots of different versions and i'm sure there must be numerous other graphic packages out there.
So has anyone got any suggestions?

It might be worth me mentioning that

My computer runs on windows vista

I already own a Wacom Bamboo graphic tablet (but never used it)

And i am looking to spend about £100 - ($200)

Thanks in advance - Freeway

Apart from Photoshop you could use Illustrator, although that is more for graphic design and judging by your own work, probably not what you're looking for. You could try Flash, which if you use correctly can produce smooth, vectory goodness. It's hard to make it look natural though. Fireworks is good, but it's difficult to find because it stopped existing when Adobe devoured Macromedia like blobs devour people named Steve.

You could also try some of the free programs that are floating around, such as The Gimp or Pixia, I haven't tried either myself but I have heard good things about them.
Hey buddy, you should be a Russian Cosmonaut, and here's why.

I've used gimp on all my pages so far (manga style) and using screentone and shading is a breeze.
It takes a while to get used to it but i like it so far.
(only major downside is when you scale your images they become very blurry, so I have to work at a small size which i dislike)

Other than that i'd recommend it. :)
Tell me if pixia is better if you ever do try gimp.
