I started putting up a webcomic because it was the only way to get people to read any of my scripts ...
I'm first and foremost a writer, and for almost two years I was writing comic scripts some of which were drawn, but most of which were not. Many of these were sent to specific artists, some were published on my blog, but the page hits didn't lie ... no-one was looking at them. Several people actually told me how difficult they found it to read scripts (and these were comic book people) without artwork.
I began to think it was all a bit hopeless.
Then my wife suggested using our toy collection and a camera to illustrate a script. At first I was skeptical. Photo-comics were something I'd despised when they turned up in the UK comics I read as a kid. But I didn't have a better idea ...
So Character Development came about ... a photo-comic with Playmobil toys, and suddenly people were reading my stuff. In the space of six months I've had 7 artists start to draw scripts, and they all look great.
So in a way Character Development has done it's job. Should I stop? Nah. It turns out I like making it. I enjoy writing it, and I enjoy taking photos of toys. So much so that I've started on some other photo-comic projects (while still writing material to be drawn by others).
As for Drunk Duck, specifically ... I came to it blind, lurked for a while, then started to get involved with the community during the Secret Santa project last Xmas. I was surprised at how supportive and friendly everyone was (so many online communities are less so) and I quickly became a DD addict. 5 of the 7 artists working on scripts with me are from the DD community!
Of course I want more ... more ... I won't rest until you are ALL working on projects with me ... Mwah ha ha ha!

I started writing SOS as a means of escape. There were so many things about the way college was set up that just seemed so extreme and unnecessary, drawing the webcomic seemed like a good way to turn my frustration into light humor. Then after the first 50 pages I was just too hooked to stop :P
Wireless on the other hand started as kind of a mission. I figured even if we aren't very patriotic in Canada, we deserved a Superhero of our own and then it quickly turned into a social experiment as to how would that in turn affect the entire country? Would people be supportive? Consider it a menace? Would it start a meta human arms race? Anyways... just kind of got me hooked thinking of how everything would fall into place

If I didn't do Cowtoon, my head would just be full of dirty cow jokes. How weird would that be?

Tell a story that's been on my mind for years, while getting enough practice time with different techniques to become really ill with it.
That potential I pull out when I'm bullshitting a sketch is sleeping whenever I do a major project, and I'm going shock that power out of me through hard work, and possibly gain some fans and become the carry on the tradition of Gekiga while I'm at it.

Like what Hunchdebunch said. My comic's main purpose is to tell a story that i've been actively working on for many years. Because if I didn't get it out on pencil and paper, I would have lost my mind xD!

My main goal with Time Girls, whether webcomic or print, is somewhat odd I guess. I want to help the girls make a name for themselves... I want them to live out their adventures in a thousand different minds and realities of readers. I've been working on the story for over three years (I have several hundred pages written), I live and breathe Time Girls, they exist to me, I say hello to them every morning, and goodnight every night. They're real people to me, just locked inside pages I'm struggling to produce. I feel like they're walking ahead and can't take the next step without me throwing down pages for them to step on. I feel like they're depending on me to give them life and create their adventures... I draw Time Girls because the girls will die without me.

I collected dolls *ahem* action figures. I liked to write and I saw lots of comics done with action figures. In a lot of ways I thought action figure photocomics could be considered to be like sprite comics as the artist really should transcend the figures to appeal to an audience outside of action figure collectors. How many have managed to do that? I wanted to try.
So I backed into this by some writer aquaintances who had joined Drunkduck and were procrastinating over doing a comic. I had presented my stuff around the Action figure sites and being an arrogant egotistical person I just had to try to make the transition from action figure comic to webcomic. And Drunkduck fell for it, gave me an award and now I can be more egotistical than ever! (insert manical laughter here)
I can pretend to know what I'm talking about even though it's all been experimentation to see what works. Sarcastic humor and lots of boobs works better for me than epic fantasy. I sacrificed my self-respect and any pretensions of seriousness.

I want to take over the world! Not...
My comic is entirely meant to teach people about alcohol, mixology and how bartenders are actually important in today's community.
Most people have a large prejudice about alcohol, either saying it's a horrible killing liquid that causes nothing but sadness and chaos (sadly, it's partly true due to man's own inability to respect it) or thinking that alcohol is only for getting drunk and having fun at parties (the people that cause the previous opinions)
In my comic i try giving you this information, along with recipes and phylosophical ways of viewing alcohol and liquor, as it's not really a bad thing, it's the abusive human race that's in the wrong, not the liquor.
I make sure the characters are also interesting, i like my characters and I'm using their power of minimal influence to try and convince either passive drinkers or non-drinkers that alcohol isn't all bad.... if i can convince just a few people, that'll be enough for me.
it also shows how liquor can save a man's life if used in a precise way.

The main reason I'm making comics is to become the best writer/artist to ever grace the earth. Will I achieve that dream? Maybe not, but It'll be fun to try.
My second reason is to make stories, I love telling stories.
