I am really curious about that.I usually updated at 7:20 AM(Korean Time) because it's probably the best time to update it because it's 4:00 PM in NY.But what is the best time to update a comic???

I upload mine ahead of time and set them to go live on a certain date. This way it goes live at the earliest point possible on DD time, which maximizes the time it would be on any one's "fave" lists. Anyone who checks their fave list everyday can't miss me. That has worked for me, and seems to be the most sound approach to posting.
Other people have some ideas about the best time as it relates to the "newly posted" spot on the front page, but if there WAS a magic time, everyone would want to use it, and since there's only 10 spots, it would be uneffective.
I really think getting 24 hours on fave lists is the best way to maximize your exposure. everything else is a gamble.

Yep, I do the same. I don't know about being on lists or anything, but uploading two or three weeks of pages upfront and then just having them go online on the specified date helps me avoid missing my updates (I'm pretty bad about paying attention to that stuff as I get distracted too easily).

if it's too late in the day, just set it to update 'tomorrow' and it'll be listed as updated in ppl's faves for longer.

I used to set it ahead of time. But then, I realized that making blog posts was fun, so I started uploading it reaaaaally early in the morning on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Like, when I'm drinking coffee, and getting ready for school early.

You can update automatically, but your comic won't show up in the recently updated list on the main page.
I personally update in the mornings when I can, but when I can't (usually on weekends), I automatically update.

Seriously, I think showing up on the front page is overrated. There are only 10 spots and with probably 1000s of comics updated each day, your time there is minimal. Not to mention the fact that if there, statistically, is a "best time" to be on the recently updated list on the front page, so many people would be updating for that time-- your exposure there would be even LESS.
The reason why I consider the faves list important is this: I keep up with all my DD comics though my faves list. People check out DD at all hours of the day, including the mornings. So if you're updating in the middle of the day, people who check their comics in the morning obviously won't see your new comic that day, and the NEXT morning when they're checking their faves, your comic will no longer be showing up as new. Doing automatic updates, you avoid that. The worst is people who do it late night. There are some comics I have read where, I could miss quite a few pages without realizing it because the creator posts late at night.
So, that's a bit more on my opinion...

I have to agree with Splash Damage; I prefer posting either a few hours after the earliest time to update or in the morning (Pacific time here). Also, as Ryuthehedgewolf mentioned, making author's notes (I know he said blog posts, but still) is a fun way to add to your comic.
As far as auto-update, you're absolutely right, Mattchee; you will be shown as having updated that day all day long. But only to people who have already added your comic! Surely these people will look at your comic eventually, and it's also likely that they'll look back at what they missed, thus giving you the same amount of hits regardless.
To me, new people reading my comic is more important than overall hits, so posting at different times as opposed to auto-updating will actually give me a bit of time on the main page, and while you're right, there is no guarantee that it will be there for long, or even attract a single reader, it's more likely to be seen by new readers. I think, anyway.
And damn, that was a long sentence.

you know why birds don't write their memoirs? because birds don't lead epic lives, that's why. who'd want to read what a bird does? nobody. that's who.

I should try auto-updating again, as I have a decent amount of people faving my comic.
I do like to have it on the "just posted" list to attract people, but maybe the auto does better... I will have to try it again and see the results.

I update as early in the day as I can, like around midnight. Usually the only times I have to work on the comic is at night anyway, so it's not that much of a stretch. The main reason I do this is because I like to wake up in the morning and read the comments that were made while I was asleep. It's a nice way to start off the day. :D
