What fonts do you use?

I love good fonts, i think they add a lot to a comic. Pick a bad font at your peril!

I'd love to know more about what fonts people use, and why, and how I chose them.

I'll start. Rocketship A Go-Go uses Anime Ace 2.0 for dialogue. I love this font because it's easy to read and has a nice look - I think it's classic but not old-fashioned. This is an all-capitals font, so I tend to bold some words to make the text a little easier on the eye. Alas for my readers, I often forget the "embolden" step when I'm making my comic.

For sound effects, I use a font called Zooom, which has a fun look that I think help keeps my comic from getting too dark and dreary. I tend to space the Zooom letters rather tightly, and then turn them into outlines, and then join them into one shape, to make them run together nicely.

So what fonts do you use? Why did you pick them?

Comic Sans MS is the usual font I'd use for my comics.

I was using Arial until I found out people cared what fonts are used o_O

Now I use Steel City Comic. I usually draw my sound fx.

Read "The Devon Legacy".

Comic Sans MS. It's a classic.

I personally use A.C.M.E. Secret Agent from Blambot . It's nice and easy to read and just a bit different from Anime Ace... plus it's not Comic Sans... which makes it great on many many other levels. ^^;

lol, that's pretty deep. A whole site on banning Comic Sans, heh. I used to use Blambot fonts a lot though, it's just that I got lazy and reverted back to Century Gothic/Comic Sans...

Please, please, you give me too little credit.

Comic Sans for AE, Anime Ace for others. Apart from 7 CORES, which is goin' to be multilingual (dialogs in different languages, but with English subtitles if needed). Anime Ace is nice, but it doesn't have some letters I often use, so I've prepared an expanded version which includes Danish (æ,ø,å) and German (ö,ä,ü,ß) letters and can be used to write also in Swedish, Finnish and Norwegian:D If someone is interested - PM me.

I use DigitalStrip for regular speech bubbles, and Mighty Zeo for special cases (a couple of character's narration and speech to make them stand out a little).

I use the font "Jimlee" from comicraft.com for my speech bubbles because it has a great feel to it.

I just checked the page and these fonts are MUCH expensive now (I bought a collection about 9 years ago way cheaper)

Though for sound effects I use quite a broad range of fonts, there is even a font that each letter is a sound fx. (that can give you ideas on how to make a few others). And you can also find free examples in Blambot's site.

Having different fonts in sound effects help differentiate them from each other and also gives them a texture/material feel you can relate the sound to. I mean, if you use a font that looks like stone and write BOOM youll have a feel of dirt and ground to it, but If you use it for a splash sound you will feel its not right.

I use Mouthbreather... it's my fave font so far, it kinda looks like handwritten but yet not quite.

I use Manga temple second (for miscellous stuff) along with BadaBoom (my sounds effects font).
I'm on hitatus while I redo one of my webcomics. Be sure to check it out when I'n done! :)

I use "Papyrus" for Lost.
Originally I wanted something that looked handwritten, but most of the time fonts like that is a royal pain to read, and I hate that. So I ended up with the slightly "fragmented-looking" papyrus.

All my other mini-comics are literally handwritten or textless.
It seem like I'm much less professional than the rest of you. :)
Because I may as well show a bit of pride. ^___^

I got laughed at for using Comic Sans X_x

So now I use Digitalstrip (sounds appropriate enough for an online comic eh? :P)

I used to use digital strip about 7 years ago. But for my new stuff this year I've switched to Anime Ace. I like Anime Ace a bit more. But Digital Strip served me well for such a long time. I can be wordy. And Digital Strip can fit balloons really well evne for wordy folks like me. Blambot made my life so much easier! They rock.

I use a font called Turntablz for a lot of the band-related freelance art I've been doing lately. Gives me a nice hip hop feel, but is still legible. So that's cool.

I just use Arial. It's simple, bookish, and legible at any size. I like using lowercase letters too (many comics don't...) Long monologues and rants from the characters are common. My comic is meant to read more like a novel or play than a comic book. *shrug*

For sound effects, screaming emotion, or whatever, I'll play with other fonts. Bradley Hand is one I like for that stuff. Some sound effect things I just draw/write in by hand.

Depends on what I'm doing.
My old comic would use different fonts to denote the different sounds people's voices make- a rough, gravelly voice would use a font like Samdan or Feast of Flesh, for example.

For the most part, now, though, I just stick with Lafayette Comic Pro. It looks very comic-y, has upper AND lowercase letters (a plus), and a full set of punctuation marks (even better, those are usually missing in my fonts). For special cases, like my inhuman, clone-like Lobo officers, for example, I tend to use something suitably abnormal or menacing, like Arcanum.

For sound effects? Well, again, depends on the sound effect. Sharp noises tend to get sharp fonts, like Armor Piercing or Damn Noisy Kids!, while softer or rounder noises get stuck with stuff like... Badaboom or something.
I need to get more sound effect fonts.

Comic Sans MS. It's classic, it's simple, it works, and it keeps me from wading through the hundreds of fonts I've downloaded in search of the "perfect" font. I REALLY like fonts, so I've got a bunch.

I used to use Mighty Zeo 20 (I think from blambot), but it's not as readable to me so I stopped using it. I used it for the first 2 pages on More To Life, then stopped. ^^;

I also use a bunch of other, random fonts for sound effects on the like.

Webletterer or SmackAttack from Blambot are excellent dialogue fonts. Really, anything Nate does is great and free, so why not use the resources available. :P

Blambot Custom for standard dialogue. I'm not sure if they still have that one on the site, though. For sound effects, I use tons of different fonts because I like some variation, but the ones I often default to are BadaBoom and Damn Noisy Kids for explosions and Gunhead Chick for gunfire.

I use Trebuchet MS. I like it a lot because it's nice, bold, and clear. And it's not too 'bubbley' like the standard Comic Sans MS. I don't know, I just like to be different :D

For the dialogue I use "Zud Juice" which I got at Blambot. For the sound effects I use LOTS of different fonts nowadays...though the one I use the most is called "Badaboom", also from Blambot I believe.

I haven't found a title font for Vampire Phantasm that I really love though. =/
