What bosses in what games do you like to just go back to again and again? Even if it means getting your body (or what's left of it) wiped all over the floor every time?

For me, it's Star Ocean 3's battle against the special dungeon boss called "Freya". Man, she's one difficult lady to put down...

Of course, the other boss I have an impossible time with would be Emerald Weapon from Final Fantasy 7...

I always liked going up against Luca Blight in Suikoden II. That bastard was crazy.
God needed the Devil, the Beatles needed the Rolling Stones, Hakoshen needs me.
I'm the enemy he requires to define him.
Soon or later, he'll bring me back to life again for another epic encounter of shouting about power levels and grimacing.

Nyx at the end of Persona 3. Not the hardest fight, but man, what excellent build up for a very cool looking final boss.

The Goddess at Silent Hill 3's conclusion... more of an attrition fight than anything strategic, but she's something else to behold.

Sin in FF10 is a ton of fun. That dragon battle (Evrae?) atop the flying airship is fondly remembered too.

My favorite is Lucifer at the optional end of Shin Megami: Nocturne. Incredibly epic and probably the toughest last boss I've ever fought in an RPG.

"You tell yourself to just
enjoy the process," he added. "That whether you succeed or fail, win or
lose, it will be fine. You pretend to be Zen. You adopt detachment, and
ironic humor, while secretly praying for a miracle."

The Emperor Ing from Metroid Prime 2 was a fun fight.

I'll put that one down as a favourite...

I have a gun. It's really powerful. Especially against living things.

The Judge from Folklore. He was the first boss that I had trouble with, although that was only because I didn't pick up the picture book page that details exactly how to defeat him.

Also: FOUL BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRDS!
Hey buddy, you should be a Russian Cosmonaut, and here's why.

The end boss in Super Metroid (SNES) was pretty iconic!

Also, most Final Fantasy end bosses are pretty epic.

The Cyberdemon- DOOM

Shub-Niggurath- Quake (H.P. Lovecraft FTW!)

Giygas- Earthbound (especially because of how disturbing the in-game dialogue is when you fight him).

Ganon- LoZ: Ocarina of Time (Epiiiiiiiiic!)

Nemesis- Resident Evil 3 (Because it's scary the first time you learn that running through a door doesn't mean he'll stop chasing you).

The final boss (I can't remember his name)- House of the Dead (back when flash-gun games were still in arcades...when there were still arcades).

Ridley- Metroid Prime

Psycho Mantis- MGS

The Cyberdemon (again)- DOOM 3 (even though I consider this game a travesty to the franchise, the battle for this boss is still just awesome).

General RAAM- Gears of War (because of the satisfaction I got after I finally beat him the first time).

The Hive Mind- Dead Space

The Sol Nigers from Wild Arms 4 and 5. Recurring little punks that get harder and harder as you keep encountering them, eventually becoming hour-long epic fights that leave you with a huge sense of accomplishment when you're finally finished and you've exhausted every item in your inventory fighting them even though you've maxed out your level.

I'm gonna go with the first fight against Bowser in Mario 64. There was just something about it... suddenly seeing Bowser again and really getting a feeling for his size and girth. In the past I've jumped over his head and dropped his fat ass in lava, or thrown his own robotic minions at him, etc. But this was the fight where it was man-to-turtlemonster, where the ground literally shook with every step the bastard took. The first time you get to him, it's a real, "Oh, shit!" moment.

Of course he turns out not to be that hard, and it kind of loses its edge when you fight him again a few more times. But for that one glorious instant, you really feel like you're facing down this enemy you (through Mario) have been dealing with since the 80's.

In that same vein, the first fight with Bowser in New Super Mario Bros., which is really just the standard "drop his ass off a bridge" fight, with the exception that you can see all his flesh get burnt off. That was goddamn shocking when it first happened: I literally called people over to show it to them, but of course it was gone by the time they got there. The fight itself, though, wasn't really anything to write home about.

-Akuma-Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo (Arcade)

-Storm Eagle-Megaman X (SNES) (By itself it wasn't a tough boss, but the design of the boss and the setting was beyond awesome. My favorite Maverick of the series...)

-Lavos-Chronno Trigger (SNES)

-Kefka-Final Fantasy III (SNES)

-The Last Ship-Space Invaders (Atari 2600)

I've always been partial to the mine cart/tunnel boss from Gunstar Heroes, and I will forever love the first berserker battle in Gears of War.

I should probably mention Sovereign Saren from Mass Effect. He got pretty hard... unless you utilized that one pillar to block his attacks. Or better, if you're a biotic character with the Lift power. Then he becomes harmless. So much for being a scary "last boss". I think I would've had more fun invading Sovereign itself (just kidding! don't want to tempt fate now...)

And maybe I should throw in that giant sized plane (from Ace Combat 6) that took 8 fuel tankers (tinier than its engines) to refuel! I had no idea how many turrets the thing had, but jeez that was hard. And Strigon didn't make things any easier. Maybe I should get back to playing that game. Hmmm...

(revs up his favorite plane... the blue Idolm@ster F-15 that acts like a raging demon in flight)

Hmm..

Resident Evil Series Bosses: Nemesis, Mr. X (both were very stubborn and did creep me more than once because i never felt safe when i knew they still lurked around) and GiantWorm/maggot(in RE3.)

Dead Space: Hive Mind. i did nearly do in my pants when i first saw this boss. So frigging huge. (even this was a easy boss fight but still impressing)

God of War 1. Hydra boss. Damn this one was the very first boss in the game and it was NOT an easy one. xD and of course i loved this fight.

God of War 2. the boss fight with Zeus. brutal and cruel fight.

Final fantasy 7. the final boss. pretty impressing for first time.

Metal gear solid 1. Raven, Mantris, Sniper wolf and Metal gear itself.
Metal gear solid 3. Sorrow. I was wtf'ed when i got this in boss fight... creepy like hell.
and then Pain. i felt he was a funny boss to fight.. to summon weapons, bombs and etc from wasps? xD

Metal gear solid 4. Rex Vs Ray fight. i did love to be Rex in this one.
Snake Vs Ocelot. two old men yelling at each other. xD

I liked the boss battles in Shadow of Colossus. They were pretty awesome. I liked the flying boss one.

Erad has good taste.
Read this comic. It is the greatest journal comic ever written and drawn. Trust me.

Psycho Mantis hands down from Metal Gear Solid. I love fourth wall jokes.

I'm also going to say Blue from Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow, for the reason that he's a complete dick to you the entire game and you finally get the chance to settle the score at the end.

Metal Gear always gets my vote for the best bosses...

MGS1: Sniper Wolf, Psycho Mantis, Grey Fox, the entire ending sequence

MGS3: The End, Volgin/Shagohod

MGS4: Laughing Octopus

The Scarecrow sequences in Arkham Asylum was pretty great too.
